  • The fire happened on the 11th of July 2022. It was taken away by Tanners from Cork a few weeks later.
An electrical fire (I'm nearly certain) started in behind the battery on the Renault and within 20 minutes there was nothing left of it and very little left of my new (second hand) Massey baler I'd just bought. Nothing I could have done to put out the fire nor had I any way of disconnecting the baler and dragging it away. Roughly 2500 bales on the baler and 9500hrs on the Renault.
This was the first day I had the baler on the Renault as the Ford popped a ball out of a socket for selecting 1st and 2nd gear in the top cover of the gearbox. The Ford has a fire extinguisher in it because this is the last thing I wanted to see happening...and yet it happened anyway.
I have no more footage of the Renault which is good enough for youtube but I do have footage of my baler baling heavy 20fts so I will upload that soon.
    Couple of interesting points
1:33 I thought the gap was tight with the baler but the tanker nearly overturned going in. The tyre genuinely came oh jesus....I'd say 2 feet off the ground. If he'd pressed the brakes it was gone over and tumbled straight into a telephone pole and down into a deep ditch. Luckily didn't happen though. Didn't get it on camera either though unfortunately.
3:46 Where the fire started, in behind that spring on top of the gearbox somewhere. Tyre still smoking away the next day as well.
4:00 I didn't show it very well but if you pause the video and look at the loader you can see it was literally inflated like a balloon with the air trapped inside it I'd say. It was all bulging outwards. That's what I think happened to it anyway idk...
4:54 You can see my baler bracket I made just that morning got absolutely reddened and drooped down forwards. It holds the bracket I made for the ford which I actually took out and painted blue and continued using with the new baler I got on loan for the rest of the season. You can see it in other videos. Before it got burned it wasn't painted at all. You'll notice that in the next video of baling with the ford before any of this disaster happened.

Sorry to see this happened wayne. Did ye get to keep the panel off the baler even just for sentimental value? Hard to watch this video tbh

I actually did keep the panel 😅 kept a few bits and pieces off the baler that I thought I could use again and one of the burnt panels off the Renault too. You can still see the remains of where the stickers used to be which is surprising...

We have the same yoke. Very scary to think about

Get a 2kg powder extinguisher for it and fit a safety switch. They're about 50 euro for the extinguisher and less again for a switch. Well worth having. Tractor was a write off within the first 2 to 3 minutes. Sickening to watch.

Yeah the father bought himself an 07 claas ares 557atz a few weeks later. It's ok but we never had any intention of changing tractors so it is a bit of a balls. Liked what we had.

Sorry to hear mate Renaults are very common for the fire we had a Renault 551 go up in flames about 18 years ago due to electrics very common unfortunately and never got anything near as good as her since there just bullet proof

Even though it's just a machine the sense of loss is something huge alright. Even my dad who owned it never realised how much he liked it until he had to try and replace it.

I saw this comment in my notification bar and I thought "ah no...here we go again. Some guy giving out about my headcam videos being too shakey and they can't watch them" 😂 but then I see it's this video, so yeah you and me both lad. It was pretty disheartening to watch it all go up on fire.

Sorry to see that hope the insurance gives close to the value of it .I have seen one for sale on a Renault tractor group on Facebook.where is the scrap yard might get a lift ram of them if they weren’t cooked . Sorry again. Got an extinguisher today will get a switch asap.

    • @WayneMescal
      @WayneMescal  Рік тому

Whole tractor was cooked. Even the gears internally might have lost their hardness said the scrap man. Tanners in cork have it. It was undervalued in insurance unfortunately and cost to replace was always going to be big in todays second hand market.

Very clean tractor . Seen one or 2 end up in flames before . One thing to watch with air cooled engines and keep them dust free .
