  • Not much to say about this one really. Been doing the usual baling outfit gig here same as last season, only worse weather this year. We're working between weather windows all the time. New Zealand has been hit with bad flooding and cyclone Gabrielle as well. Where I am hasn't been too badly affected compared to the east but still, driving around the place I see maize blown over here and there.
The job at hand here is cleaning out something like a sediment trap for dairy washings. Three spreaders on the go, a 145R on a Shelbourne Reynolds spreader, a 195M on a Kuhn spreader and then me on the 155R and West spreader.
Second time using one of these but the first proper time using one. The first time I used one was a bit of a shambles. I used a borrowed one at home on the 7810 but had to give up after one load spread because the spreader kept breaking the rotor chain. Some part of the machine was stone rotton and the thing wasn't running straight or some support bracket was knocking the chain off or something. I can't quite remember. I can remember though that we ratchet strapped the thing straight just to empty it and then finished the job with the rotospreader after that. But that rotospreader died this summer just gone too so now we have no muck spreader at home 😕
Anyway, I suppose I'll explain the 2 small comments I made to myself during the video. The first bit was about how I didn't feel like going up on the sideslope with the muck spreader loaded. That's fairly self-explanatory. All the stuff in the spreader flowed to the low side and even though those West spreaders are fairly stable, I'd rather just not even give it the opportunity to fall over. Better safe than sorry and all that.....
The second bit was just I forgot the 4wd going up the hill. I put the camera on my head going in the gate and forgot about the 4wd as usually I turn that on when I go in the gate. I said "That was a mistake" twice because I really made 2 mistakes. First was forgetting and second was turning on 4wd while slip exists between the front and rear axles. I'd usually never ever do that. Maybe it's not so bad on tractors that use a pack for 4wd to engage on the move with speed differences between axles but still, I'd usually not do that. Also a bit of an easter egg for those of you who actually read the description 😅 It turns out "that was a mistake" is something I say automatically when I do something wrong. Here is another example from 2021 • 1st cut 2021 in cab and be sure to turn on the subtitles, it can be hard to make out what I'm saying at times.

What do u think of the direct drive it’s the first powershift box that I like compared to a Massey or new Holland it’s a lot smoother. As close to a vario as you can get in a powershift I think

For the most part it's fine I think yeah. It does what it's supposed to do and definitely feels more efficient than autopowr. There's 2 6215's here, one is dd and one ap, the dd one will go places the ap one won't and climb hills faster on the road. The new autopowr with the joystick would be my favourite john deere gearbox though, that was lovely to drive.

Yeah if you like doing a bit of silage and have nothing better to do in winter, it's good to try it out.
