Vaulted Ceilings - Turn Off Ceiling Fan and Install Sun blocking Window film to Keep Cool
Turn Off Ceiling Fan and Install Sun blocking Window film to Keep Cool - Vaulted Ceilings
We struggle every summer to keep this room cool. The previous owners turned this former garage into a family room with a vaulted ceiling and skylights. This is a fantastic room that we use more than any other in the house, but the skylights make it very difficult to cool in the high summer temperatures.
If you are also in this situation, I recommend turning off your vaulted ceiling fan in the summer and using a tower fan, box fan or oscillating fan instead. This will help keep the warmer air up by the ceiling and allow the cooler air to be lower making you feel cool and more comfortable.
Additionally, I added reflective solar, sun blocking window film on the two skylights that receive the most intense afternoon sun. Adding window film to skylights is a somewhat intense job, requiring moving a suitable ladder and working over your head at perhaps an uncomfortable height - so maybe a job for a handyman.
Regardless of how you install your sun blocking window film, I highly recommend it as I am confident that you will feel a huge difference in temperature.
By taking these two steps, shutting off your vaulted ceiling fan and installing sun blocking window film, we have lowered the average afternoon temperature by about 5 degrees in that room. It was not unusual for our family room to get to 86 degrees while the house thermostat is set at 77.

    Yesterday my toilet flushed and then was extremely slow filling. I flushed any debris from inside (there was some), turned water back on and it flushed/filled fine. But then it wouldn't fill again unless I turned water off and back on. So I initially ordered a whole new fill valve from amazon along with more flappers because I noticed the current one was looking very rough. Then after further research, I saw advice to just replace the seal for the fill valve. So I made another amazon order for 2 seals (one for future use). I got the 1st order today, with the full valve kit and decided to use the seal from it instead of waiting for the 2nd order of 2 seals (because I'm tired of not flushing or having to turn the water off/on). The first few flushes filled at a good speed, but after done there was a squealing noise that hadn't happened before. Came back to youtube and saw the same advice of changing the seal to stop that issue. I pressed down on the top of the fill valve and now it seems to be quiet, at least the last few times I've flushed. When I get the 2nd order of seals, I'll open a package and put one in the new fill valve and not have to worry about remembering if the whole thing needs to be replaced. It is nice being self-sufficient, especially if you don't have a man around to be handy.

      Speaking about the flapper looking rough, it was very jelly like lol...yucky when I touched it. Korky brand which is supposed to be resistant to chlorine, but I guess there's a limit.

    Are you going to be starting from the deck, or using the rope guide, which keeps it in place further up the handle?

    • @lendermanshop
      @lendermanshop День тому

      I am using the rope guide up on the handle. On my first 1550, I initially took it off as the rope would get caught on shrubbery, etc. However, I did end up putting the rope guide back on to pull from the upper position. I am no expert but I feel the engine timing is better with the pull up high, though I may be completely wrong on this. Thanks for watching, JL.

    • @lendermanshop
      @lendermanshop 6 днів тому

      Without going back into the video and checking the specifics, I think I said about 15+/- minutes to drain and about 15+/- minutes to refill; and doing all of that 3-4 times would take maybe 2-3 hours. Nobody suggested that timeline, this was based on experience regarding the entire process from beginning to end. Thanks for watching, JL.

    I had a restricted water flow from my shower head as well, but I troubleshooted with the shower head removed and then turned on the water after removal to see what the flow pressure was like thru the shower hose. Low and behold it also had washers that restricted the flow so then I removed the washers from the hose and turned the water on again and whoa Nelly, the water came thru at 2.5 GPM, just like the pressure valve is rated. I then screwed on the shower head again, leaving it's washer in (because it is also deeper inside and harder to remove compared to the hose washer. Problem solved, water pressure was fantastic!!!

    Yep, I have one of those except mine is DC. I use it to transfer external water containers (IBC totes) into my travel trailer's 80-gallon tank. It does quite a good job and I can mount it to the deck of my cargo hold. It is actually my second one, since I accidentally ran the first one dry for about 20 minutes when I walked away and the tote ran out of water. That will burn out the pump. I think the limit is about 30 seconds of running dry.

    • @lendermanshop
      @lendermanshop 8 днів тому

    • @lendermanshop
      @lendermanshop 20 днів тому

      You are correct, my apologies. You will need to use a 15mm socket to remove the wheel nut to take off what is left of the stock wheel. Your new wheel should go right on, you will need to lift the mower as you install or have it set on a couple 2x4s. If you are replacing it with a Yard Force wheel as I did, there will be less thread for the wheel nut to attach to the shaft. Just keep an eye on that for your first few mowings, after which time they should stay on pretty well. Thanks for watching, JL.

    Good review. Just facts. I have one of these. Definitely not the highest of quality but it's the cheapest one I could find. I refuse to spend a tremendous amount of money on a push mower. I have had good success with it thus far. The one thing you mentioned about the smoke and the back fires. Could be the timing is off by literally one tooth or it could have been damaged from brand new. I have read a lot of reviews that sound like people have damaged them right out of the box. They put cheap oil in, start them one time, drain the oil back out and ship them. One thing I always live by is all motors need to be broke in. Manufactures say no but really it's your risk. When I got mine, before I ever started it. I turned the blade and it was really rough. I put synthetic oil in it and good gas and cycled it a bunch of times before I started it. I ran it for a half hour before I ever cut with it. It puffed white smoke on the first start and never did it again. Nothing is made with the same quality it used to be. I think we all have to be more diligent these days or we won't have anything very long

    Plastic wheels break on all the mowers regardless of the cost or quality of the mower. Then the replacements cost more than the mower is worth. I have a Toro push mower from about 1978 with an aluminum deck and steel wheels. It outlived the engine. Just the opposite now. The plastic shit breaks while the engine is still fine. Plastic wheels, plastic gears in things, plastic auto engine parts and housings. Why do they design things that have to last with plastic. Do they hate us?

After looking at zillion mowers now, the reviews make me think we are in "Chavez" world when he had tractors manufactured for the farmers & ditched availability of good brands like John Deere etc. The new "Chavez" tractors 🚜were shiny & beautiful & inexpensive! A year later they were abandoned broken down falling apart in farmer's fields all over Venezuela! 😐

    You will have to examine the plastic seat in the base of the valve body. If there is a crack anywhere a new rubber diaphragm won't stop the leaking!.

    Kohler has a replacement for the top piece. GP1229656. It replaces the 'hole' top with a nipple top so that it holds the tube in place.

    I'm losing my mind, trying to get the "float" to trigger the shut-off :( It just won't.

    • @lendermanshop
      @lendermanshop 2 місяці тому

      Hmm! I'm sorry to hear you are having such trouble. Do you think there might be debris keeping it from sealing? Perhaps the arm/rod connection? It sounds like the float is not coming up high enough. I am sure you have tried everything by this point. I hope you are able to get it resolved.

    I just got the same shower head, removed the restrictor, but not all settings actually work. Did you in plumbers tape and the included washer? Or just the washer? or remove the washer and use plumbers tape? Thank you!

    • @lendermanshop
      @lendermanshop 3 місяці тому

      Hmm, not sure why the settings would not work. I think they work on mine but I usually just leave it on the 'regular' shower setting. I did not use tape, just the washer. I like these heads for that reason, no tape means a quick disconnect to clean out, especially since we are on well water. Thanks for watching, JL.

    Thanks for the video! I was glad you found accessories to fit the 950 v star so I didn't have to order something without knowing for sure it would fit. I ordered the same backrest and saddlebags for my 2012 v star. Have you posted videos of the installation for those?

    Lemme tell ya something. STAY AWAY FROM ANYTHING CALLED YARDMAX! Chinese junk! I bought a ‘22 around 5-15-23 and used it only about 5-6 times. It is made with extremely cheap components. The plastic knobs for closing and locking the handle broke off. The height adjustment broke off. The front wheel broke as I was using it and the axle came out off place. The plastic for the undercarriage cracked in two requiring its complete removal. That cover the belt and pulleys for the self propel assembly. Needles to say, that can no longer by used. Surprising no engine issues (yet) and it will cut serious grass-provided you have patching up skills. THIS POS IS CHEAP FOR A REASON AND YOU WILL GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR! BUY ONE: YOU WILL BE SO SSSSS)OOOOORRRR
