- This is a step by step guide on how to drain your hot water heater with the aid of the Drummond Transfer pump sold at Harbor Freight Tools. This little pump can help reduce the amount of time it takes to drain your tank so that you can get the hot water flowing back through your house in no time.
If your hot water is coming out clear and hot you may not need to drain your tank as per my plumber's recommendation. In my case today, we definitely need to drain the tank as the water is quite brown.
In addition to helping you drain your hot water heater, The Drummond Transfer Pump from Harbor Freight is ideal for helping you drain your pool, hot tub, yard water fountain or to help pump water out of your basement after a bad storm.
The Drummond Transfer Pump from Harbor Freight is a fantastic addition to your rain barrel/water collection set up, easily pumping water to your yard sprinklers or to your garden.
Though not recommended by the manufacturer, this pump can easily facilitate the transport of many different types of liquid.

Yep, I have one of those except mine is DC. I use it to transfer external water containers (IBC totes) into my travel trailer's 80-gallon tank. It does quite a good job and I can mount it to the deck of my cargo hold.
It is actually my second one, since I accidentally ran the first one dry for about 20 minutes when I walked away and the tote ran out of water. That will burn out the pump. I think the limit is about 30 seconds of running dry.
That's a great use for a pump like this. I had considered the A/C one as well but thought this one would serve my purpose a bit better. The upside is that the replacement is not too pricey. Thanks for watching, JL.
Why do you need to heat hot water? Sorry, couldn't help myself. 😊
Ha!! I know, I really need to work on that!! Thanks for watching, JL.
Dude, it only takes a coupple minutes to drain a water heater, without using a pump.
Who the hell told you it takes 2-3 hours to drain😂😂😂
WTF
Without going back into the video and checking the specifics, I think I said about 15+/- minutes to drain and about 15+/- minutes to refill; and doing all of that 3-4 times would take maybe 2-3 hours. Nobody suggested that timeline, this was based on experience regarding the entire process from beginning to end. Thanks for watching, JL.
