    How to fix a running toilet! Fluidmaster Quick Fix! Do not replace the entire valve!
    If your American Standard, or any brand toilet with a Fluidmaster flush valve, continuously runs, you may not need to replace the entire valve. Replacing the valve seal may be all you need to do. If you see water coming from the top of the valve, there is a very good chance that all you need to do is a quick seal replacement. No matter if you have an American Standard Cadet 3, or another brand or model of toilet with a Fluidmaster valve, check the valve seal first.

    Thanks so much for your video. I went to a “national home improvement “ store and was told the little black piece in the top of the Fluidmaster was not sold separately. I told him I knew it was because I just watched a video about it. Lo and behold, there it was at the top of the display. I bought it, installed it myself and my toilet is now working just as it should. PS I am a 71 yo woman and very proud of myself.

    Thank you for calling attention to this piece! In my case just taking the cap off, twisting the piece off and cleaning the seal was all I had to do. After reassembling everything it is working perfectly again.

    I was able to follow your video & change the seal. However, it didn’t stop the leak completely. I took it apart 3 times and reset the diaphragm, but to no avail. I ended up replacing the assembly. I would never have tackled this fix with confidence if I hadn’t watched your video. I will admit that I watched another video & followed the directions that came with the assembly. However, you were my inspiration! Thanks so much for bringing out the “Josephine the Plumber” in me. Lol

    Thank you for sharing your toilet experience. Had a similar experience except mine would not refill for about 5 minutes. Attended a DIY community class on saving water and water leaks. Recommendation keeps the Fluidmaster Valve seat replacement handy. This was my first time, but your video provided some great tips, especially using the cup to clean out any Debrie. I used my finger to tap and remove the excess water before seating the new valve seal in place. Again Thank you for sharing your experience.

    Everytime my building turns the water off for repairs there is damage to my faucet cartridges and water pressure once the water returns.
    This was the first time it wrecked my toilet tho.
    i couldn't get the lever to detach so i sprayed a little soap on it and that worked.
    also thanks @simon6071 (below) your directions helped me where other videos/directions failed;
    first, i couldn't get the cap off at all;
    finally managed to wiggle off the black cap only (grey part underneath it containing the valve seal remained in the tank);
    simon's tip to keeping the float up with thumb and index finger while removing the cap finally enabled me to pop cap PLUS valve seal out with minimal effort.
    Valve seal was perfect and clean.
    But when i did the flush valve out with water thing while holding cup over i found several small rocks actually lodged in that white plastic grating; numerous blockages.
    I crushed some, others i plucked out with eyebrow tweezers, flushed water through again to ensure all looked clear before replacing the cap/reattaching lever. All good now.

    I applied 100% silicone from harbor freight who happened to sell the same stuff as regular box store and actual same name brand for like 5ndollars less. Could of price matched but wanted to give my money to harbor freight for having such a good price. I applied it on the rubber and pushed it in a bit with the stem. It worked great. Also should help protect the rubber.

    All you have to do is hold the canister with one hand, press down on the cap with the palm of your other hand and give it a quarter turn and the whole top, cap and all comes off and you can easily get to the valve seal. What if Float Cup goes up but water still keeps running ?

    • @lendermanshop
      @lendermanshop  4 місяці тому

      Without seeing it, I would suggest to first pull up on the float to see if the water will stop. If it does, then maybe you need to make an adjustment on the float arm to adjust the level of the float. If that still does not work and you have cleaned or replaced the black valve seal as we did in this video, it might be time to replace the entire fill valve. I hope this helps, thanks for watching, JL.

    I don't know if my Fluidmaster is different. I do not have to remove the cap (black) of the fill valve (grey) at all in order to clean or replace the valve seal. This is what I have to do:
    1/ Turn off water supply.
    2/ Grip and hold shaft (tube below valve) with right hand while keeping the float up with thumb and index finger.
    3/ With your left hand, turn the cap (with the valve inside) and lever (no need to detach) 1/8th of a turn ANTI-CLOCKWISE while pressing down on top of the cap. (Remember the position of lever when the valve came off)
    To replace the cap with valve inside, reverse the above steps. To begin, the lever should be at the same position when the valve came off. Turn CLOCKWISE 1/8th of a turn to locked position.

      Two more tips for fixing the Fluidmaster.
      If the float doesn't fall down or falls down too slowly after flushing, the friction between the pin and the seal may be too much. Spray a little WD-40 into the hole of the seal before inserting the pin will likely solve the problem.
      If the seal gives out an annoying squeaky noise when the tank is about to be full during refill of the tank, turn the adjustment screw anti-clockwise. (It will lower the water level when the tank is refilled.) Flush the toilet to hear if the problem is fixed. If not, turn more until the noise stops.

    No need to remove the black cap! Move (gently) the valve lever all the way up and simultaneously rotate it counterclockwise about 1/8 turn. You should hear a click, then pop it up and you can then access and replace the worn/leaking valve seal. Then put everything back together following the reverse order.
