- The Yardmax YG1550 Lawnmower - If you are looking for a lawn mower that drives itself and comes with a bagger attachment, then this video is not for you! On the Yardmax YG1550, there is no bag and you have to push this mower. However, if you are searching for a very simple, mulching push mower, then stick around, you will find this video review of the Yardmax YG1550 to be very helpful.
I have about an acre of yard to cut with many embankments, trees and tree roots, shrubs and walkways as well as a number of other natural and home structures to cut around before getting onto my tractor.
Thus far, I have been very pleased with the performance of the Yardmax YG1550.
If you are asking "Is Yardmax a good lawnmower" ??..I hope that I answer some of your questions in this comprehensive Yardmax lawnmower review.
This is a short term review of the Yardmax YG1550, I intend to provide a longer term review in a year or so.

I enjoyed your video. I am considering a couple of different models of Yardmax. Your video helped.
Fantastic! Thanks for watching, JL.

Good review. Just facts. I have one of these. Definitely not the highest of quality but it's the cheapest one I could find. I refuse to spend a tremendous amount of money on a push mower. I have had good success with it thus far. The one thing you mentioned about the smoke and the back fires. Could be the timing is off by literally one tooth or it could have been damaged from brand new. I have read a lot of reviews that sound like people have damaged them right out of the box. They put cheap oil in, start them one time, drain the oil back out and ship them. One thing I always live by is all motors need to be broke in. Manufactures say no but really it's your risk. When I got mine, before I ever started it. I turned the blade and it was really rough. I put synthetic oil in it and good gas and cycled it a bunch of times before I started it. I ran it for a half hour before I ever cut with it. It puffed white smoke on the first start and never did it again. Nothing is made with the same quality it used to be. I think we all have to be more diligent these days or we won't have anything very long
Great comment, sorry I am just now replying. After the height adjustment assembly broke off of this one a month ago, I deiced to go ahead and buy a new one of the exact model, that way I now have replacement parts at the ready!! Thanks for watching, JL.
Probably not a bad idea. Things aren't made to last anymore so it's definitely good to be prepared. Thanks again for an honest video
That height adjustment is awesome.. might have sold me right there ..
I agree, it is a game changer! So far so good, I hope it holds up. Thanks for watching, JL.

I have the yardmax 21 bagger and its little brother the 20 inch both have 170cc motor, I am pretty happy with both. Yes at 5his price point it will not have all the features. I like both they do just fine
It does seem to have plenty of power! Thanks for watching, JL.

The reason for the back fire is because the carburetor puts in a lot of gasoline at low revolutions and when it starts it also causes a lot of smoke.
I appreciate that explanation. Thanks for watching, JL.
@@lendermanshop it's a pleasure😌
Thanks for the review. There isn't much out there in the stores - very few mowers, no choice to speak of. I saw that this push mower is made in China, and I really hate to patronize them. It seems that Honda doesn't make their push mower anymore, all are self-propelled. Guess MTD is the last manufacturer in the US.
I agree, there is slim pickings as far as push mowers go. If you are interested, here is my one year review! Thanks for watching. ua-cam.com/video/RpTjXeGIcgc/v-deo.html
So it’s September 30 2023 and I bought mines from home depot in 2020 and it’s been great from the start. I haven’t change the spark plug or have done an oil change since I’ve owned it. I just keep mine in the garage and she’s been reliable.
That's great to hear. Other than both rear wheels breaking on me, all else has gone well. Thanks for watching, JL.
Nice video. May I ask How it's holding up? Considering this one as most "big name" mowers start at double the price and have more than 50% reviews of failure in the first 60 days. Thanks in advance for any info. By the way it is supposedly common for new engines to smoke a bit for the "first 50 hours of use" according to the manual of my briggs which just reread after it blew a cylinder ring. Thanks again.
So far this one is holding up very well. The smoking has died down as well as the backfiring that was occurring. I use this machine once a week for almost two hours per cut. Sorry about your briggs! thanks for watching, JL.

Do you know what plugs to use when you do maintenance on it each year? I haven't found anything on a replacement spark plug or any replacement parts really. that's got me hesitant to buy this mower
Sorry, I do not have that information. (I'll look for my manual to see if the plug is listed.) You have a great point though and I did not think of replacement parts. The cover on my air filter came off back in the fall and I unknowingly ran over it and mulched it!! I was hoping I could replace it....I guess I might need to use a zip tie!! thanks for watching, JL

How’s your mower holding up after 10 months? I just purchased this brand mower with the bag attachment. It should be arriving any day now! Most of the reviews I’ve read have been positive but have seen quite a few bad reviews of similar nature. Things like smoke coming out, the engine seizing up, being difficult to start, parts breaking, and bad warranty support keep coming up. Curious about the longevity of this mower and your experience with it. Thanks!
So far it is still operating very well. I still get the puff of smoke and the occasional backfire, but that has not affected performance. I lost the air cleaner top cover due to forsythia knocking if off and me mowing over it, other than that everything is good. Thanks for watching, JL
I spoke to soon!! The right rear wheel fell off today, broken at the hub! I'll include that in my year review of course!!

My side discharge broke and idk how to find replacement any help?
I suggest calling the company, they will send a replacement, at cost of course! Thanks for watching!
Will it rust out in just 7 months and engine fall to the ground while mowing like Walfart Mowers? Or does it have those New Plastic Carbs that stop working after 20 minutes of Use in 4 months like Walfart Mowers??? I have Two Brand New mowers with less than a Hour Each on them and the one the Frame Rusted out on the first one But Still Runs and the Second one, the carb melted and will no longer Run... So I have to Switch Carbs or Switch Engines... Walfart Refusing to take either back because I loose the receipts some how..
Wow! That is very frustrating! This one is still running well, although, my right rear wheel broke at the hub last week while I was mowing. I need to do an update after I get some response from the company. I will do another post shortly. Thanks for watching, JL.
@@lendermanshop I plan on switching motors. The Running one from the Rotted Frame to the Brand New NonRunning ones frame... And if that don't work, Stop buying from Walfart and buy one from Tractor Supply for the Same Price but is a 3n1 and better reviews.

It blows a bunch of white smoke and it looks like it's on fire what can I do to prevent that from happening or what
I am not sure how to prevent this from happening, maybe someone else can jump in on this with a suggestion. I can say that it has not put out white smoke for me recently so perhaps it's part of the 'breaking in' process!! thanks for watching, JL.
Make sure it doesn’t have too much oil and avoid tipping it over and running it right after.

CC to HP on small engines is cc/29. Just some helpful info.
So... 170cc / 29 = 5.86 hp engine.
Thanks for the very helpful information. This is definitely a bigger engine than what I am used to - 4 hp or 4.5 hp. Thanks for watching, JL.

I just got my Yardmax today...got the same backfire after stopping.
Otherwise it runs great for me. Good luck with it!

The plastic clip that holds the brake cable to the handle bar broke off on mine. If anyone else has this issue, use a metal hose clamp to secure it.

They just released a 201 cc mower 6 speed 22"
Nice! I will have to check it out! Thanks for watching.

How much did it cost?
I think it was right around $200 at Lowes.com. Thanks for watching, JL.

Don’t forget that this mower is made in china
Will not forget!
These demos are worthless, they only mow short dry grass, never tall wet grass, steep hills or areas that are not accessible to a rider which is what most pushers encounter.
I will work on getting a video together showing me cutting embankments, (some of which you can see in this video) etc. In general, I cut the grass weekly. Often the grass is wet from dew, or like yesterday, in a gentle rain. Since the grass is not too tall the mower cuts pretty well. Like all push mowers, I would not recommend mulching wet grass with this one, especially if the grass is tall and thick. Thanks for watching, JL.
