My Ineos Grenadier - Specs! what and why
Thanks. That was a big help because I don't think it's intuitive. I use GPXSee (I'm sure there are other utilities) to view an exported *.gpx file. The files are just a variant of the *.xml standard.
thx a lot. it requires some time and effort to get used to that system…
Hello, I’m thinking about speccing safari windows on trialmaster. Have you got a chance to drive Ineos without these? Is there noticeable more cabin noise? Are there any leaks? Do you think they might cause any problems in the future? Do you have to cover them often? They are tinted but do they require covering them often in the summer?
Hello! i did drive Grenadiers without safari windows but not very fast, so I didn't note any difference except that there's less light and visibility. I use the Safari windows also to look at the traffic lights and when offroading on steep sections. I had a leak in the beginning when I got the car (mine was one of the first) but with the updated seals they are completely tight. no problems at all. will be interesting to see if the seals need to be changed after (many) years but beside that i don't see any potential problems. the machanism is simple and secure. i would definitley order them again!
@ thank you so much for this reply. Valid point with the traffic lights and steep sections of the trails. I think I’ll spec them, it seems like there is also little bit more space in the cabin because of them. Do you cover them is the summer with some after market accessory? I’ve seen your video about rooftop with cutout for safari widnows, thinking about getting this brand as well either full one or 3/4. Do you notice a lot of noise with full roof rack?
there's probably a little bit more space but it feels like a lot because of the light coming in. I find the windows well insulated and don't use any of the visors but there's plenty on the market. if u are in a very hot region, they might make sense. the roofrack is not noticable with the windows closed. with open safari windows you would hear it a bit. not sure about the 3/4 version...i will check that!!
Ideally close ups of what you’re selecting and the dash lights too would be helpful
thx. will try to implement that in the future or a new video
Needs a 6” lift
@@YoMamasCasa yess. portal axles would be great
Great setup. Can you please tell me what is the total internal length (with rear door closed) at 4mins when you install the drawer system + plates while the Rear Sears are folded forward?
will send u the exact measurements later! 👍🏻
with the rear bench folded up the lenth is 158cm/62inches. with the rear bench removed (which i show in one of my videos and is super easy) the length is 192cm/76inches
Great video! Is there enough space to add a single mattress inside, 90x190cm if fold down one of the rear seats and add a drawer in the boot to make the full surface flat?
hello! thanks a lot. there is this option. I have a drawer system in the back, specifically designed for that purpose. check out the video: ua-cam.com/video/QMELqu4duHM/v-deo.htmlsi=alruLH-p4o4rvzjD there is also one from the manufacturer i worked together with: ua-cam.com/video/7OUhz6FvEdU/v-deo.htmlsi=8WpMzWq7zV3zEHNi and if you remove the rear bench, which is super easy, you have even more space (length). how to do that, is shown in this video: ua-cam.com/video/uK8pm0ApoBw/v-deo.htmlsi=SQxviFaDsobKUoxe i hope i could help with those informations. if u have any questions, i am happy to answer them
Can someone please tell me where this specific Roof Rack is from?
of course i can! it's built by HGM Rack www.hgm-rack.at . you can find a video on my channel about it: ua-cam.com/video/BZ5F0IIBlRY/v-deo.htmlsi=0POj5Dh5J2NV83Ag there are several different versions available in the meanwhile.
Can someone please tell me where this specific Roof Rack is from?
Finally a report on actual towing near capacity. THANK YOU. I also noticed a WD hitch wasn't used yet the IG didn't look to be sagging in the rear.
thx a lot. the handling was really nice and it didn't sag at all. and that is the OEM suspension/springs.
Great review Ingemar! We're currently on a 5-year trip in a Grenadier across the world towing a Patriot X3, which we live in. We set off from London in mid-July 2023 with our two young kids and we’re approaching 50000km. At least 70% of our journey has been off-road...
hello matt. i am following your trip since the beginning....great project and adventure!!! when I finally have enough time 😅 I wanna do something longer as well. the month-long trip to the North Cape was the maximum so far...and my "Hard Way Home" from Morocco...
@@grenadier_exploring We look forward to following along! The Grenadier is the machine for these kinds of trips!
Thank you for the excellent video and also for the unit conversions on speed and fuel mileage! I live near Seattle and have been researching the Grenadier, the fuel mileage is very good for such a large vehicle while towing. I have a 200 series Land Cruiser (5.7L petrol V8) and get only slightly better fuel mileage while not towing😂 I have test driven the Grenadier and my only hesitation for purchasing it is the outward visibility. I am 6’2” (183cm) with a tall sitting height (I was at the sitting height limit for US Air Force ejection seat qualification). I find I have to duck down to see the traffic lights at a stop and it feel a bit restrictive looking out the side windows. How have you found the view out the front and sides?
thank you very much. a very nice ride as well...like the V8 😉. The forward (upward) visibility at traffic lights is not good at all. I solved the issue with opting for the Safari Windows. That's where I see the lights in fact... You can clearly see that the downward visibility was in the engineers mind.
@@grenadier_exploring thank you for the reply. I’m seriously considering a Scottish white one. One of the few vehicles I’ve seen that looks great in every color! Lots of mountain roads and off roading wheee I live. Cheers🍻
the area around seattle seems to be great for a car like that!!! 🤩 the scottish white looks great 👍🏻
Thank you for a great serie of videos 🙏IG is my first modern car, great vehicle but all these nanny functions drives me crazy. We are all childs nowadays 😠.
i do agree 😝. thx a lot!!
Great vid! Going back to view some of your older ones. Nice couple & vehicle, a great combination! Keep up the good work.
thank you very much!! hopefully i find the time to produce more shortly!
Which roof rack is this?
i developed it together with a company from austria. HGM Rack. hgm-rack.at/en/ i also have a youtube video about it on my channel: ua-cam.com/video/BZ5F0IIBlRY/v-deo.htmlsi=165oq2hzJnjx1Jvz

Too many nuts and bolts to come loose, I've learn't that lesson
i see. so far, after more than a year, all the bolts are still tight!
sorry, i don't think you mention EXT No1 where is it?
u are right...i missed that. EXT 1 & 5 are powering the outlet under the bonnet. there are two cables next to each other. if u need a picture, email me grenadier.exploring@gmail.com

This road is children game but still you can feel the power on this car 🔥
true...not very challenging but still difficult enough to see how effortless the Grenadier crawls up....
Even more exciting when you are behind the wheel of a Grenadier!
absolutely correct 💪🏻
agree!
Nice !!. What Rock Sliders do you have on Loki ....are those factory OEM,, or aftermarket ?....if aftermarket what is the Brand ?. Are you happy with then and can they carry the weight of the vehicle on a pointy rock without bending. Thanks in advance for any information you may provide.
@@carlredmond3642 those are still the OEMs. Later i changed to the BlackSheepInnovation Rock Sliders. they have little steps attached which make them even more practical. you can see them in my other videos (like: How To? - Epidode 07)
and yes: they were designed to take the full weight of the car. same with the new aftermarket ones i got
It sounds like your steering pump is broken!
true! but that's the normal sound of it 🤷🏼♂️😜
Use programable TPMS sensors. That way you can set the sensor to have the same codes as your original tires so that when you swap out the set the TPMS system still works just fine.
thanks!! i got them now as well plus the required tool. 👍🏻
What a car! That's such a beast!
Hi, great review! We currently drive around Sweden and Europe in an old Land Rover defender 110, I am however interested in the Grenadier as an alternative over landing / work / farm truck. In our current car we have a bed installed in the back, and the back seat is removed completely. The bed is permanently fixed at 190cm length and we do not move the chairs in the front (we fold only the back rest). If I understand you correctly, the absolute maximum length of the back (cargo area) of the Grenadier is 194 centimeters, but that is with front chairs moved forward? I wonder, can the rear seats easily be removed completely, in order to install a as large as possible bed with storage underneath?
hi. saw your 110 on insta…very nice! i think i didn’t move the seats forward, just the backrest (as you) when i measured that. but it has been a while - i can check again once i am back home. the back seats and backrests can be removed quite easy (did that on a few trips) but under the rearr bench are the batteries and electronics of the car…so there is not too much space - i do show that in one of my videos and also how to remove the backseats!
@@grenadier_exploring Hi, thanks! You don't have to measure, I was just curious on the measurements 🙂since it's just close enough to 190. I saw that other video (How to? Ep. 01) and sure enough, removing the back seats that seems really easy, gave it a bit more space for sure. I also found your instagram, will be interesting to follow and see someone who uses the car for various things. Cheers! 👍
perfect. i might still do it when i am back home...got curious now 😜. for me it's a daily driver, offroad-fun-vehicle, mobile home and working car....love it! we keep in touch 👍🏻
Love to do that instead of using hill descent control. Good driving!!
@@rubenrojas4271 HDC is good on this car but I also prefer this method…works really good!
Nice. I swear, knowing how to go down a hill without braking is a lost art in the four-wheel-drive community these days lol
@@dadventuretv2538 true that…see it a lot.
Is there much noise while driving?
from the roof rack i assume? you can hardly hear it...only when the windows or safari windows are open.
@@grenadier_exploring ah yes from the rack.thank you for response and great work it looks amazing 👏
thx a lot.
Nice video. I just purchased one. That steering pump noise is my only complaint.
congrats!! u are right…that pump is really loud!
This vehicle is meant for this type of abuse on the road/off-road purpose built/overbuilt. If the steering pump being load is a problem, this vehicle is most likely not for you
@@mastailler1649 it’s not a problem for me. was just stating the fact. i love the car exactly the way it is
it’s a good option to be able to get a winch from the factory but it’s a $5000 option, also I feel personally the winch line is too short they did that on purpose so it would fit, also when unwinding your line instead of using the power just turn the knob and free spool out. Again it’s good to be able to get a factory option but if you get one without the factory unit I recommend getting one of the aftermarket kits and a warn winch you will have much longer usable line. 👍
the line is really short - i do agree. until now i am happy with the winch and the extension i have.
This truck is so darn cool, I wish there were more automakers for these types of niche cars
true. unfortunately there are only a few left....
Very informative video. What is the height of the running boards from the ground. Love your videos. Lee in Socal
hi, thx a lot. the lowest poinst/lower side is at 40cm or 15 1/2 inches, the highest point/upper side at 48cm or 19inches.
Best UA-cam video I’ve seen in a while! Thank you…😂😂😂
@@brucebeard978 thx 💪🏻😜
Are you using electric trailer brake, and if so what type ? Thanks for the video !
no, i am not using any additional brake. just the built in overrun brake.
Honestly its a bargain if this is what you want to do with it. Purpose built. Lots of respect.
I am looking everywhere for a video about the grenadier by night. I can't find anything. And the dealers close before sunset 😁. Because of my job i will be driving a lot in the night and also winter is coming. How is the interior and exterior lighting? Is the big screen very bright by night? Is there a night mode? It might be irrelevant for most people, but i know i'm not the only one interested in this. Thanks for the insight on your channel!
u can set the interior lighting to your liking. in 10% steps from 10-100%. and in general it changes to night mode when the headlights turn on. the auto atic feature is a bit slow (f.e. when going into a tunnel). the head lights, higg beam and aux lights are quite good. as you already know, i had a 52" lightbar installed for scandinavia and switched now to the strabds LED lights. they are awesome and very good in dark areas (like scandinavia).
here is a video (how to? - Episode 4) where you can see the different lights at night.... ua-cam.com/video/fKu35LDpghY/v-deo.htmlsi=bFsr3rcdlychHuIz
@@grenadier_exploring thanks a lot 👍🏻
The only small issue regarding with night light is the reflection of the screen in the rear window when you drive during the night and look back via the central mirror, but that only should affect if you drive on the left side as the UK, for right side driver it should not be an issue
i don't have that problem anymore cause i installed the black sheep innovations molle panels on all the windows in the cargo area. 🤷🏼♂️
Had any issues with elec system / batteries? Had to make any modifications?
absolutely no issues! i was on longer trips with a compressor fridge and the external diesel heater running the whole day/night and the battery was still at 75%. charged within a very short time while driving. all the switches and connections work....can't complain!
though about integrating a solar panel but it's not required for my travel pattern for now.
I run 295/70r17 Maxxis razr mt on the stock steelies and no rubbing so far with decent flexing. Initially the inner guard on the right rear rubbed a little but it can be pulled back with a zip tie and that solves the problem. Great tyre size for me
cool! like them as well. they were in my candidate list as well. are u offroading much? how do you like the performance of the tyres?
@@grenadier_exploring I’ve had several sets on other vehicles and the street manners and wear has been really good for a mud tyre. They have always worn evenly. I’m not getting on trips as much as I used to but when I do I like the durability and performance of them.
@@thinpins1 thx a lot
Be badass let your dog jump Its a dog it shouldnt be laying around specially a husky
we came back from a day on the mountain before shooting this. he DID jump and run and was relaxing after the fun...😉
I have a question. When descending steep hills off road what's the best way to control your speed? Do you rely on the auto box 'holding' a low gear, do you switch to manual and hold a low gear or do you use the Downhill Assist? I've found that holding a low gear in auto the car still wants to change up which can give some scary moments.
hi. i do see the same issue, though in Auto it's still holding the gear quite long. The HDC is a very good system and worked till now every time really well and you can fully concentrate on steering and set/control the speed exactly as you like it. Me personally, I love to put the transmission to manual, 1st gear and roll down the hill with engine brake. works up to +-30 degrees of slope really good (if it's not too slippery).
I am saving every month from my pension (at 76) to buy a Grenadier someday. 😊
@@janvaneeden8678 worth it 💪🏻😎
🙏🏻
I went with 285/70r17 BF Goodrich KM3’s on the OEM steel wheel. Love the way it looks!
@@leftcoastoverland8750 oh yes. they look great. would have been an option for me as well
Your hazard lights are a great security feature. I’ll stay with the control panel in the car, but thanks for sharing your idea of the remote control

5:22 what a place! So beautiful
it’s the southern part of Austria, bordering Slovenia and Italy
@@grenadier_exploringoh that’s nice… we are coming to shoot a film there in a few weeks.. around Lienz…. And we have at least one Grenadier with us.
@@grenadier_exploring is that a public space/park?
Is it possible to mount snow chanes at this tyre dimensions?
i guess not without a lift (which i am planning to get). at full articulation and steering the chains would touch the arches....
285/70r17 falken wildpeak mt for me together w/ the Eibach Pro Lift Kit for me
looking into the lift kit as well!! are you satisfied so far?
@@grenadier_exploring very much so. great offroad but also a lot more stable onroad 👍
@@grenadier_exploring do you know if the lift will affect the warranty?
i am checking with a friend who installed the kit. will let u know asap
the warranty remains with the lift kit. just got the answer
Thank you. The "logic" of Grenadier is really helpful. One question: Did the new tires and rims require a lift?
no lift required! but i am planning one (also mentioned that in my previous video). a few more inches of clearance would be perfect...
Thanks! Yes, a lift makes the overall stance look and work much better. BTW, I’ve had my Grenadier for 5 weeks now, have put 3K miles on it and I love it!! Please keep your videos coming. They have been an immense help (along with the Ineos forum).
@@grenadier_exploringso are we going to see a collab video with Taubenreuther soon? ;)
wouldn't mind 😉
Another great video, thank you for sharing it! One question, assuming you changed the spare to match the other tires, what is the impact (if any) to opening the rear doors, etc? Does the bigger tire get in the way at all?
@@LocoCoyote there are brackets available that reposition the spare wheel by a few inches so it fits perfectly.
@@grenadier_exploring ah...where did you get those?
The rear door factory bracket will accommodate up to a 295/70r17 with just millimeters to spare in clearance. BlackSheep products makes a spare tire relocation bracket to accomodate anything larger, like 35’s.
There is another easy and cheaper solution if you need to add a bigger spare tyre, you can add a couple of washer on the screw near to the small door and that will push that side of the tyre a little bit out and make the space to open the door, with this solution you wont need to move the spare tyre position, I will recommend to try this solution before spending money in an additional base that will change the door load of the car.
@@LocoCoyote sorry, missed your message 🙈. got one from BlackSheep Innovations
hello the vibrations from 80 kmh to 110 kmh; that's the balancing of the front tires!!!
ok. i thought they were balanced since it was the factory setup. but now that u mention it: after changing wheels a few times, the vibration is gone
@@grenadier_exploring It's because it's complicated to balance 4x4 tires. Know that vibrations at 80/110kmh are a problem of balancing the front wheels and from 120kmh the rear wheels.😉
