To me i feel like there is a lot of metaphores and i think he is talking about poverty, the ball and chain can refer to prison but also his life conditions that stop him from pursuing his dreams. The house of the rising sun i feel like it can be his home or his neighbourhood, where he is constantly looking for the next day to stay alive and maybe hope it will get better eventually maybe because it can't get any worse anyway. At the end when he said "to wear a ball and chain", it's like now the song is over he is going back to his shitty neighbourhood and singing is his way to forget this life and leave the house of the rising Sun.

this was recorded live in an empty studio as nbc's retaliation to him standing his ground to do this tribute to dr. king & bobby kennedy..once the cameras went black he literally collapsed to the floor in tears as all the emotions he poured out through the song finally hit him.. I wanted to express my appreciation for your sharing Elvis with the new generation. Now that I’m in the golden years of my life and I looked back when I was your age the greatest moments I can remember of my lifetime were the days that I saw Elvis in concert. He was always my hero since I I was a little girl I remember looking at the TV set when I was five years old and that was 65 years ago. How a little girl can fall in love instantly, and that love could take her through a lifetime still amazes me. People can idolize someone but I can honestly say I genuinely love this man as you would love a family member and thank you for honoring his memory, God bless you and I’ll keep my eye out for more Elvis videos.

He ran away and was caught, and is going to prison. "I'm going back to New Orleans, to wear that ball and chain." He is warning mothers not to let their children follow in his footsteps.

He did retired for a few years. When Paul Anks heard he was going to stop performing and he had promised Frank a song. Paul went home and wrote this song for him in 1 night. That's the story that Paul tells about this song. Couple years later he came back to performing for several more years after his return. He passed away in 1998.

Okay, so, there's a BIG problem with this song. It was written by Delta Blues man Willie Dixon in the 1950s titled: 'You Need Love.' It was first recorded by Muddy Waters in 1963 (with awesome keyboards), and released by Chess Records -- with credit to Dixon (ua-cam.com/video/WoqR7ztdTCg/v-deo.html). The Small Faces did a cover -- with credit to Dixon -- and a couple of other bands, too in the 1960's -- again, with full credit. Dixon's estate sued Led Zeppelin, and after years of litigation, they won. Later, Robert Plant said with a blank look in those blue eyes: "Jim came up with a great riff, we changed some words, and 'Bob's your uncle.' The man should have been paid, and he wasn't -- end of story." Not quite. Dixon died in 1992, broke and impoverished, when he should have been paid huge royalties over decades. They also ripped off the term 'back-door man' from another Dixon recording of the same title. Plant tried to justify it by saying their manager, Peter Grant, took care of all the business -- but they knew they hadn't credited Dixon and continued to fight long after Grant was gone. Jimmy Page never made any kind of comment or apology 😐. It's really sad that people of their talent wouldn't give credit where due. And it's not the only song they stole...
