The infamous rendition of Hound Dog is the one Elvis performed on The Milton Berle Show; it caused a huge stink with some horrified parents accusing him of vulgarity and racists accusing him of promoting miscegenation (it's the height of Jim Crow) by performing Black music on national television. Even if you don't react to it, this is an interesting watch because it gives some context as to just how controversial both rock 'n' roll and Elvis were in 1956. ua-cam.com/video/iWj7bLxM0zg/v-deo.html
It was short he was only shown from the waste up on the Ed Sullivan show you need to see the whole version from the Milton Berle show you get to see Elvis move those hips on that show make sure you get the whole clip stay safe 😷✌
There's a longer version with more movement on the Milton Berle show. Elvis is the reason sensuous movement is no big deal. He broke down the barriers. Your friend Jayy has the longer more frenetic video.
In those days they wouldn't allow him to be shown from the waist down on a lot of programs. Parents threatened to boycott programs. He got death threats and everything.
It wasn't really that short for some reason the video made it short. But that's when they filmed him from the waist up because they thought he was too vulgar at the beginning. But there are other videos featuring that song that you might like better. Thank you for remembering Elvis. Love you girl
Hey Gem, love your reactions. This is the version to watch if you can - its one if the most iconic performances in early rock history and resulted in him being banned from the waist down on TV. It’s definitely a bit longer and BTW, his movements would still be something now but back than they caused national outrage! ua-cam.com/video/WJnVQDA9rHA/v-deo.html
Personally I have never been a fan of Hound Dog. The lyrics are corny and Elvis actually hated it. But it was a big hit for some reason so he did it. I do enjoy his performance of it on the Milton Berle Show though where he dances and has moves that MJ took from him with the toe stance etc. Plus he broke it down at the end into a bluesy ending. You should do a reaction to that version. Much longer too.
June 5, 1956 Elvis performed "Hound Dog" live on Milton Berle's show. That evening, Elvis changed popular culture. Take a look at that performance.
Very True
Big Mama Thornton sang a Blues version of Hound Dog. Then a couple years later Elvis released a Rock n Roll version. The King of Rock n Roll.
