Hi everyone. In this video I am fishing for trout at a Canterbury River in the South Island of New Zealand. I hooked into and landed a nice large Jack of around 9lb but the access to landing and releasing the fish was a bit tricky. There are some good-sized trout in this canal but they can also be difficult to catch. If you enjoyed this video, please give me a like and also subscribe to the cha...

Amazingly at this time of the year the Kahawai were still around and fighting as hard as they did in the summertime. Spin Fishing for Kahawai at The Waimakariri River Mouth Summer 2024

Hi All, On todays video I am fishing for Kahawai at the mouth of the Waimakariri River. This summer the Kahawai have been a bit more of a hit or miss. The runs are not as long as they were in the summer of 2023. Quite a lot of the time Kahawai will readily take a lure that is skipping across the top of the water surface or just beneath the surface and other times not so often. It is a matter of...

There is a bit of top water lure fishing and plenty of action as we get stuck in to the Kahawai yet again. If you enjoyed this video please give it a like and also subscribe to the channel. Trout Fishing on a Canterbury River - Spring 2023

Hi everyone. Today I am out fishing for trout at a local Canterbury River. The weather was a bit cool and windy, with rain forecast over the following 2 hours. The river conditions looked perfect and I managed to land a great-looking 6lb brown trout in the cold and rain. You will notice that there were times in the video when I stood there and deliberated on whether to release or keep the fish....
Fishing for Kahawai at the Waimakariri River Mouth - Summer 2023/24

Hey all, Today started off with a fantastic sunrise and nice warm summer conditions. At certain times many fish can be very fickle and appear to be hard to catch and that also applies to the Kahawai. One minute its full on and they are on the chew, the next minute you wonder where the heck they have gone to. As you will hear in my video, it is all about trying different fishing techniques and v...

The kahawai are back again for the summer of 2023/24 and we are going to get stuck into them. Stan and I also like helping out other fellow fisherman (woman) if they are struggling while fishing. What is the best combo for kahawai with in a $400 budget in your opinion Im thinking about buying the Shimano nisci 4000xgfc moon shot
@JacobCowan-t4e Hey Jacob, for a $400 budget I would put more money into the reel and get an 8ft Shimano or similar rod. The reel is the most important part so spend as much on the reel with that budget that you can. The guys at Complete Angler will help you out. Cheers Aaron
Thank you
Ya mucked around too long with that kingi, Stan should of dived in after it
@@JamesO-q4q I didn't have the correct set up for that fish hence the reason I didnt haul it in and tried to play it instead. Stan would never dive in after it, he would push me into the water instead...lol
Gotta get out to deeper water when you hook them on the boulder bank they always run to ground there
@@TonyJefferies-q2q Thanks for the info, in this situation we were bait fishing and the knot was the weak link unfortunately. Cheers
That's our kingfish lols ,think the boat seaworker is to do with spatting here in nelson , cheers , shaneno, nelson, 👍

hi, how far up the waimak is this? Thinking of going with my fly rod...
@@piggy290 Hi, middle reaches. Thanks
Couls you please give me some tips for kahawai fishing since i just started.
Hey mate. Get yourself an 8ft rod and any decent reel. eg Penn spin fisher 4500 or similar. Silver ticers and blue ticer lures seem to work best in both 22gm or 30gm. Also soft plastic paddle tails are deadly lures for Kahawai fishing. Something around the 50-75mm in either whitebait clear colour or bluish or greenish colours. Cheers
@canterburyfishingadventures Cheers mate I appreciate the help and hopefully I can catch my first kahawau
@LeoOgata-Johnston yep, if you see me out there come and say hi. I can help you out.
@canterburyfishingadventures will do
And also do I get the lures from hunting and fishing
Love your content bro, any redcliffs/southshore footage? Been pretty good out there lately
Thanks mate, I have 1 video of South Shore but that was about 2 years ago.
Nice one❤

@@kowboykel665 Thanks alot for the sub, very much appreciated. Might see you out there one day.
I got 4 salmon last year, the biggest was 5.5 pound I kept that other 3 were only 3-4 pound I released them. Yours is one of the biggest I’ve seen from last season!. Here’s hoping they ate better condition this season!
Good stuff, yeah I was pretty lucky catching that 7lber. Many caught have been smaller as you mentioned. I think they will be bigger this year. All the best.
Love your videos. Congratulations on your Salmon. Beautiful fresh run
@@kpcscience thanks for the great comment. Yep tasted good too.
do you need a license to fish there
No licence needed for kahawai.
@@canterburyfishingadventures If a ranger pulled you up and you didn't have a licence, you would get a fine because your method involves lures which could catch a Salmon or trout which are sport fish.
@JAG0071877 That is incorrect. If you do happen to catch a trout or salmon it must be released immediately unharmed.
Nice 😊 🤠👌👌🤙🤙💯💪🎣
Thanks! 😀

Yeah it's near MacIntosh. The river is currently dirty, this was filmed earlier on in the year.
they look like tradespro pliers ? I would always use quality knipex to remove hooks. They grip so much better you can get at George Henry in hornby
Haha, I only use the cheap pliers on Kahawai and then use my Knipex pliers on the salmon 😂
