  • Hey all,
    The day started off a bit grey, overcast and windy but that certainly didn't dampen our spirits as we headed out for another Kahawai fishing mission. The kahawai are back again for the summer of 2023/24 and we are going to get stuck into them. Stan and I also like helping out other fellow fisherman (woman) if they are struggling while fishing. We will lend our advice when it comes to info on rods and lures and any other general fishing related issues etc. If you enjoyed this video, please like and also subscribe to my channel. Thanks very much.

    We where up at Macintosh 2 weeks ago and we where getting hit after hit and ended up with 10 after like 20 mins. What size lure you use and do you use mono or braid.

      Yeah it's fun when the Kahawai are on the chew. I use either a 22gm or 28gm metal ticer. I am running braid with a mono leader.

      Yes most definitely I'm using 20 to 40g lures on braid with mono as well still learning this fresh water and river buzz only use to bait fishing but spinning is addictive got the bud now.

    Seems like the outgoing/low tide is the best when fishing the mouth. Have you ever fished the in-coming tide with any success there?

    • @canterburyfishingadventures
      @canterburyfishingadventures  10 місяців тому

      The incoming tide at the mouth is no where near as productive as the outgoing tide. Generally the bite disappears 1.5hrs after low on the incoming.

      Thanks for the reply! I'm only over here for a few more days and wouldn't mind another fish at the mouth (likely tomorrow). Would the rain this afternoon affect fishing tomorrow morning in your opinion? Not familiar with the flows in your rivers after rain. Thanks again and thanks for the great content!

      @@JohnMathey-j6k Hey, thanks for the great comment. There has been a bit of rain in the Alps on Monday and that has discoloured the river and moved the flows up a bit. The river fishes best below 80 cumecs. As I write this the waimak is flowing at 102 cumecs. Local rain doesn't typically affect the river unless there is pronged periods of rain. Are you spinning or bait fishing?

      @canterburyfishingadventures great info! I come over every few years to visit my partners family so it's so handy to learn about optimal conditions from a local. I'll be spinning. Wanted to try out some micro jigs for something different than the hex wobblers/gillies pilchards I normally use.

      @@JohnMathey-j6k no problem, I would still go down today and have a go. I am out of town so I havent seen the river colour.
