Got the last V6 air aspirated engine Highlander in 2022 and it runs fantastic. Keeping it until it dies.

not paying more money for a worse product. Nissan has it down- 30k for a 300hp NA V6 and decent reliability. nobody wants a turbo I4 for their TRUCK.

This isn't a "It's not a V8" issue, it's a QA issue in the engine manufacturing side. This could have happened with the V8 the same as the Twin Turbo v6 engine. Every vehicle manufacture is being pushed to kill off gas guzzler V8's by the EPA. But this issue is on QA side of Toyota not what engine they put in the Tundra. It's also effecting the newer Lexus SUV the LX due to it having the same engine that QA was not done correctly on.

Still driving my 2000 Tundra V8 and plan to keep driving it. Part of the problem with all new vehicles is our government. The government demands certain fuel economy, back up cameras, airbags everywhere, etc. All this comes at a cost which is now showing up in reliability issues and showing up on the sticker price too.

Kepp your older tacomas, tundras, and 4runners, don't buy turbo engines vehicles, Toyota as we know it is gone

What's more concerning is that Toyota is seemingly dropping the ball on customer service. It's one thing to have a vehicle that craps out on you, but people would still be willing to take the risk if Toyota was doing right by them when it happened. The honest truth is they are either unable or unwilling to do that anymore. We'll see how this recall goes, but with almost every business decision and vehicle off their line they are shouting from the rooftops, "We're not about quality, longevity, or reliability anymore or taking care of the customer, we're about short-term profits." Quality and customer service were Toyota's biggest differentiators, and it's very clear that is no longer their model. End of an era. First auto maker to start selling affordable, quality vehicles wins the bag.

The new toyota are garbage

They've now issued a recall on around 100,000 of vehicles using this engine (Tundra & LX) stating the issue is due to the engines not being properly cleaned prior to assembly. No solution yet released, so looking forward to seeing what their solution ends up being.

First, I like to say thanks for your time and effort I was shopping around for a used truck, I am not going anymore I just don’t like the idea of V6 and Turbo I like V8 engines and that what should be put in any truck Turbo is just like putting a guy on a steroid, They look good, but they die early I am 2015 ram 1500 5.7 hemi owner, I have 150,000 miles on The truck still run so amazing My only advice don’t get the air suspension, it’s great but expensive to replace

I'm at the point that if I ever need a new vehicle, I'll just BUY the parts for one and build it myself. Seems like I could build a better truck in my garage than modern manufactures can make with robots. interesting times we are living in.

Toyota has a HUGE opportunity right now!! ALL modern trucks are terrible, if Toyota could come out with a reliable one they would be the only one with a good truck.

"The 5.7 tundra is one of the most reliable vehicles ever made" *laughs in pre-AFM silverado* the 4.8/5.3/6.0 are bulletproof.... the 4l60e/4l80e although sort of weak theres still millions of them on the road.... some 5.7 TBI 350s with over 400k miles on them, down south thats all there is, old chevys.... they keep running with little maintenance. Theres something to be said for ultra simplicity

Don’t know what state this gentleman is in but if it is California, This is a easy Lemon law case, also in California you don’t have to pay anything out of pocket for a lemon law lawyer , the lawyers only take cases they know they will win. and the manufacturer pays them .

Toyota had no choice but to use smaller engines cause of the Goverments Snowflake Emissions rule, Toyota will prevail as they always have, they had many failed engines like the Diesel Camry, 3.0 4runner, now this, it's only a minor set back that they will fix, nothing will stop Toyota

Stick with naturally aspirated V6 Toyotas or inline 4, and you'll be safe. Let others be guinea pigs on the first 5 yrs. I have a 2022 Tacoma. I waited and did not get the early 2016-2018 yrs.

Toyota is sooo overrated. When these trucks came out there were so many body panel problems. Trim problems. The interior lighting is absolutely dismal. The list goes on. Now this. Toyota is no different than any other manufacturers. There are more million mile Chevy's than Toyotas. Toyota just has good marketing. I've had lots of friends and family members get Toyotas then turn around and sell them. They found out they weren't so great. Several of them had to have engine rebuilds with not that many miles. I've even worked on my sister's Corolla. It was one of the hardest vehicles I've had to work on. A lot of things were built so cheap. Like a plastic oil dipstick tube🤦🏻. One of the hardest to get to air filter boxes, an absolute stupid set up for the brake fluid reservoir. That thing had so many problems, broken pieces and dumb designed things. So the news of this truck and it's problems come as no surprise to me.

It’s total nonsense that a Toyota turbocharged engine requires so frequent oil changes. My 2.0T Ford engine in my suv doesn’t turn oil black even after 80,000 miles on the clock

10000 mile oil changes are insane.. read the fine print. but the main problem, under sized turbo engines. 2024 4runner the last of the real toyotas

The former Tacoma V6 is gutless…I own a 2023. But it’s reliable. All Toyota needed to do was beef up the V6.

New Colorado ZR2 at $50K. They worked through the 2023 and early 24 computer issues. Drivetrain is solid. Much better value and has true front locker and not the worthless crawl control

With turbo engine you should be changing oil every 2500 miles as they do get hot and cooked faster the more you drive them. 3500 miles at max interval. NA engine can go up to 5000 miles ore more depending on how often you drive them.

As a decades long Toyota loyalist, I just bought a brand new Nissan Frontier to replace my aging Tundra. Toyota lost me as a customer. Crappy turbo engines, insane MSRP’s, excessive dealer mark ups, cartoonish bro-dozer styling, and serious ongoing quality issues killed the brand for me. I bought a loaded Frontier crew cab long bed for $39K OTD. It’s smooth, powerful, and well-assembled. The engine has loads of grunt and the transmission is seamless. It’s the truck Toyota should have built.
