  • I'm surprised to see how many people still buy used Tundras that are almost guaranteed to have engine failure. I suppose some people just hate money...

Well, to be fair the problems bubbled under since the LS500 launched, what, 6 years ago? But the number of units and market demographic let them ignore it. The fact that they ignored it and ramped up production numbers with a known troublesome engine... Inexcuseable, even if you're goal is to fleece everyone.

Hello, I am a HUGE Toyota head. I currently own 5 Toyotas and have owned many others over the years, with no issues. Now, I was patiently waiting for the new Tundra and Tacoma to come out, and after carefully reviewing other people's nightmare, I decided to buy a Nissan Frontier Pro-4X and have no regrets.

Good choice. The Nissan Frontier is a sharp truck and it's still built in America, unlike the new 4 cylinder Tacoma, which is built in Mexico now. (and the new Tacomas are also breaking down just like the Tundras with transmission issues.) Currently there are 30 new Tacomas in stock on my local dealers lot.

Toyota fan boy here. I’ve posted on numerous videos like this to make potential buyers aware of my experience with Toyota. I got both the Toyota tundra and Sequoia both hybrid and have nothing but problems with them. My issue went all the way to corporate after I complained about the vehicle, vibrating at a certain speeds. Toyota told me the vibration is a characteristic of the vehicle and when I told them that the vehicles should not be doing that at that price point, they told me the vehicle is operating as intended. I found out the hard way that it’s cheaper for me to go upside down on both my vehicles than to take legal action. I have been loyal to Toyota since 1996 and this is the first time I’m actually considering a Ford. Ford also do have their issues, but based on what customers are saying, Ford is standing behind their product. It’ll be hard for Toyota to earn back my trust after what they did, but until then I will continue my campaign to make prospect buyers aware of Toyotas despicable customer service, and severe decline in quality control.

I do blame myself for overlooking the build quality. I should have noticed and rejected the truck on that alone but I was a ‘fan boy’ and said ‘this is a Toyota it has to be a quality build’. Remarkable how we all used to think the Japanese culture was immune to the short sided greed that caused the demise of former American auto giants like GM and Ford in the 80's and 90's. Yet here we are in the 2020's, watching Toyota putting short term profits ahead of vehicle component reliability, durability, customer satisfaction and loyalty. One way owners can try to fight back is by purchasing less complicated base model Toyotas; e.g. the 2025 $30,000 Camry LE sedan instead of a $45,000 Toyota Crown Sedan.

@@shawnn6926 that's funny because no other full size brand is presenting low mileage catastrophic engine issues like Toyota. They had, hear me out 15 YEARS to work on a new generation and they brought a rushed turd. They rested on their laurels thinking people would keep on buying because "It's a Toyota!!".
It's not like if the EPA told them 1 year ago they had to build a more efficient powertrain, they already saw every other brand moving that route and they did nothing about it. They had plenty of time to test the powetrain but they didn't and what's also worth noting is some people say Toyota was forced to ditch the V8, yet GM and Ford still sell V8 trucks. The only thing Toyota needed was to keep both a V8 and a V6 or pair the V8 with the 10 spd to make it more efficient and maybe a taller gear ratio.
And what about all the interior plastics breaking down ? Does the EPA have any say on that or do we need any more proof that Toyota cheapened out with this generation?

I was working last year in a dealership and 2 gentlemen from Irak came in and wanted to buy a Tundra TDR and they were willing to pay 90k cash on the spot but the salesman that was working with me let the guy’s offer down because he wanted 95k 😂😂😂 I wonder what about those people nowadays

You’d have to be insane to buy a new tundra rather than a ‘21 or older 5.7. Those trucks are pretty awesome. It’s like some people just want to throw away $.

Went and test Drove a 2023 crew cab limited, Drove nice just not big guy friendly. 64k with the manager special attached. Could not see making long trips in that truck. Once I got back in my 2021 crew cab I felt right back at home.

My 04 Tundra still going strong. Gonna keep it. All brands are garbage now. A reflection of how everything in the world has turned to garbage

I haven't seen a single new tundra with 50k+ that hasn't had some sort of failure.

Toyota quality has been going down hill for a while. Our brand new at that time 2018 trd Tacoma was a pile of f’ing junk. Transmission issues that were never figured out. The pre collision feature caused random brake lock ups on the highway at 65-70mph. Toyota replaced the sensor in the grille 3 times and reprogrammed it and it kept doing it. Nearly killed us a few times… We got so sick and tired of that lemon pos and wanted more truck anyways with at least rear air and offloaded it and traded it in for a brand new 2019 Camry for my wife and I went and bought a 2017 f250 6.7L “which has been absolutely flawless even with the amount of abuse I put that truck through” but not even joking when I say this next part. We traded in the Tacoma and not even a mile down the road from the dealer it throws a road and vented the block.. towed it back in and Toyota flew a engineer out to our dealer and after a day with the car they wanted the car back from us for testing purposes and they sent us another brand new 19 off the delivery and all and let us unwrap it and now that one is at 72k miles and rock solid. But we haven’t bought a Toyota since.. After all these story’s I really don’t trust them. The new tundra is no surprise to me but I knew it when they bent the knee to the eco nuts of the world and put those little eco turd fart cannons in a full size truck. Should of made it an option for the eco turd for the ones trying to save a few cents at the pump but not be the only option.. If the tundra had the 5.7L in the 22 and up it’s sales would be off the charts imo. If not off the charts at least a lot better then what they are now.

My 24 had a tick when at stop, it was a 3 tick every few seconds and would randomly rattle at 60 mph. Traded it off ate 8k

I find this odd as well. I think it’s crazy the number of YT videos of people buying these. I don’t care what deal they’re giving, no fing way!

It definitely seems like the powers that be at Toyota have flipped their concept of what kind of company they want to be. I’ve been driving a Toyota for the last 7 years, 3 different models, 4Runner, Sequoia and a Tacoma. All 2017 and newer. They aren’t that great of a vehicle but they have a reputation for amazing reliability. I loved the 4Runner but the engine was anemic and the seats were not great on longer trips. We got a sequoia and sold that after a year and bought a Tacoma and I am not happy at all with it. It hit the marks when shopping but it missed the mark on almost every point in real world use. Except it does get good mpg. I’m a retired GM designer and have driven a lot of brands over the years. It’s sad to see this happen and it’s also sad to see that no manufacturer can seem to make anything reliable anymore. You can’t even get good parts anymore. Companies are struggling with epa regulations for clean air and customer demand for performance and something has to give and obviously is.

Nobody's mentioned this. New tundra keys are $1,500 a piece.

I have been told MANY times...Oh Toyota is the best....only American vehicles are junk....I daily drive a 1997 Dodge Intrepid with 225,000 miles on it....best car I've ever owned. I'm laughing now. Toyota, "oh what a feeling".

Was interested in the TRD Pro Sequoia and GX550 but I’ll be ordering and F250 Tremor Lariat with the 7.3 Godzilla instead. This engine fiasco and the fact they are the same price made it an easy choice.
