As long as people of our region are nationalistic, no such union will exist. If a Pole or a Lithuanian, or an Ukrainian would stop to think of themselves in terms of nation and nation-state, and start to think about the neighbor as "he is one of us", then the change is possible. One more obstacle is different languages, but with modern technology the obstacle becomes absolete.

A bit late to the party, but I'll firmly say absolutely not and I say this as a Pole of Szlachta descent, the PLC functioned well for its time, but that time has long since passed and it had a myriad of problems which caused it to fall and be partitioned in the first place. The only type of "union" I would even remotely support would be something akin to the Intermarium and it be a confederation rather than a federation like it was initially proposed, in fact there is already steps being taken to this effect in the form of the Three Seas Initiative. I agree that this would be a good way to offset the Franco-German domination of the EU, in fact I'm a proponent of Poland leaving the EU given how heavy handed and frankly utterly stupid Brussels has become, since appears they are advocating for their own annihilation anyways with the completely foolish policies they've implemented over the past decade(s) and there is no point in Poland going down with the ship. That said tho the nations within this Neo-Intermarium, must maintain full sovereignty in any and all affairs both foreign and domestic aside from collective defense and inter-confederation trade, additionally a clear and expedient path to secession must be laid out should the need ever arise. The aim is to avoid the steps that the ECSC followed that eventually led to the bureaucratic monstrosity that is the EU of today, to further keep away from the EU's failures only 2 representatives from each nation should ever be elected to act as the council body of the confederation, 1 representative elected directly by each nations legislative body and 1 elected directly by popular vote (the idea being to balance the will of the state vs the will of the people), with 2 year terms each and a collective term limit of 8 years per representative. The council can then elect among their number by majority vote a position a member could fill e.g. trade representative, collective defense representative etc. and even potentially a confederation representative to interact with international nations should the need arise.

As a polish citizen I highly approve of this idea, however the unification should be based on political system of Switzerland: citizen army and full direct democracy. The federation should be composed of the Scandinavian states, Baltics and all former eastern block states besides Russia, while Greece & Austria could fit in well.

Imo,reforming the PLC as a full nation with radical changes of local administrators not being sacked,and allowing the learning of ukrainian,belarusian and the baltic's history in school STILL wouldn't make the union stable enough for prosperity,thats because growing ultranationalism could lead to many disagreements in the commonwealth beetwen the countries.

The states themselves do cooperate heavy, and we are probably the closest allies in the region. It is just some marginal people in societies of our countries that don't even understand why they dislike each other. But I never had met such people in real life (nor Poles nor Lithuanians), only illiterate alcoholics online.

I think this scenario really makes sense. But Russians also understand that Chinese are absolutely against any nuclear escalation and China is the only one who could save them economically. I believe nuclear escalation is unlikely because from whatever angle you look, Russia would loose not only militarily but also economicaly. They would really become like North Korea.

im polish and do not agree. We should leave the past behind and focus on the new and now. We are part of the EU and NATO and these are our families/commonwealth. We should strive for a european identity as a whole and not create divides in the form of some eastern cooperation block within the EU. We must look at Europe as a whole and not ignore every other member including western neighbours i dont like the idea of reviving some old eastern empire its similar to how russia thinks too. Some may be surprised that i dont even like or support the commonwealth that existed in the past. I'd much rather prefer if my country stayed a strong, centralized and rich central european kingdom with colonial perspectives in mind rather than becoming quite literally an eastern country after it embraced lithuania and formed the commonwealth. Such a waste of potential and unnecessary conflicts in the east. also i do not support ukrainian membership in the EU or NATO. I stand with Germany on that, i think the polish government is delusional.
