Hi Baltic World! Thanks for the shoutout 😊 I never thought about Crispin’s theory regarding the UA-cam algorithm and putting out content on a lesser-known topic, but great analysis!
Interestingly when it comes to travel vlog videos/channels, I feel like the “Lithuania effect” is more obvious when compared to the Baltics overall. It appears that a Vilnius video will often perform better than a Riga video. 🧐
Anyways, great video and great work overall! Love your format and the analysis and insight 🇱🇹🇱🇻🇪🇪

Thank you for featuring us! Your content is so well-needed. Yes, there are so many different factors at play but I suspect Lithuania just has a bigger population than the other Baltic countries and hence greater reach on YT. But who knows, things change all the time. 😅 - Charlene

Most or many videos about Baltic, even in news feeds, are somehow wrong, intentionally misleading or are even falsification about reality in Baltic. But situation is improving in recent years and Your videos helps in this regard. And as information warfare are raging, especially in our region, it's important to keep pulse on what is going in information space. Because it is important to get true information across. Also it's important, for various reasons, to watch, what foreigners are talking about us. And this serves us as measuring value.

I agree, living in a bubble = bad, as perfectly demonstrated by a couple of our neighboring countries. Thing is nobody ever talks about Lithuania, however when they do we tend to listen, good or bad we'll take it :)

@artusbondars7789 a fair assessment. We're glad that we're helping increase attention to Lithuania. It's definitely important to continue to strengthen the Baltic countries' global identity so that all continue to thrive. It's a bit of an exciting time now for the Baltic as slowly more foreigners are discovering this part of the world.🙂

Well as Lithuanians we are absolutely instrested what outside world thinks about us especially knowing that we are very little known place for the outside world. On top of that there are some channels like yours or Lithuania Explaned that highlights the things that are unique in Lithuania from the perspective of outside world but absolutely mundane for the local population, which allows us to better comprehend things that are unique in Lithuania and does not exist as much elsewhere.

    • @BalticWorld
      @BalticWorld  11 місяців тому +1

That's so true! It goes the same for here in Australia. You don't realise the many things that make your country unique and special until foreigners come to visit. For instance, everyone admires Australian beaches, which are definitely stunning. But if you ask me, I was in absolute awe hiking the Lithuanian forests! I am incredibly jealous how green, lush, and ancient Lithuanian forests feel - Charlene

I personally am feeling a bit ambivalent when you (or some some creators) share their journey/experience.
I am glad that you found regional history inspirational, worth learning from and expanding own views/growing up as a person. Kudos to you and your journey of self discovery.
I am sad that many more locals care very little about those things. Too many find their inspiration elsewhere.
    I guess I am getting old :)

They say "to know your future is to know your past" which I didn't really understand until learning about Lithuanian and Baltic history.
It's ok, I think with a bit more enthusiasm and time, we can encourage more locals to learn! 😁 - Charlene

Let me put “Lithuania effect” from my own lithuanian's perspective. I am not sure about UA-cam algorithms, as I consume A LOT of videos and even when some Lithuanian/Baltic topics are shown I might miss them in a constant flow. But surely twice or once in a month I intentionally look for a videos with keywords: "lithuania", "vilnius", "литвa", "вильнюс", as they might produce quite different results from russian and english speaking communities. By the way it's how I found your channel. Overall it interest me how foreigners look at my country, the good, the bad.

Our pagan history is interesting, neopaganism. I would love to see more content on UA-cam about it. We don’t even have anybody explaining it interesting in Lithuanian :) And foreigners telling it in English, that’s interesting. Brings attention :)

Admire your persistence. I hope you continue and grow larger. I think it’s good that you are not too narrow of a niche, taking all Baltics.
As for Lithuanians, my opinion we are a bit traumatised after being under the iron curtain where there was so little recognition of us at all. This passed even to the generation that was born independent. Subconsciously we still feel like we are not full foot on the international stage due to our past, of course, size of the country also matters.
One example I find kind of cute, look at how we are interested whenever there’s Eurovision and there are all of these reaction videos to our entry, Lithuania often scores so many views being such a small viewer base. It’s like we can’t get enough of it :) need to be acknowledged. I think that’s totally understandable knowing our recent past. That might not be so obvious for an outsider though.
Anyway, don’t cater to our expectations too much as some other channels do, I think that’d be a mistake in the long term :P

I think at this stage, it's all about the economics. Lithuania is not much talked about on the world stage simply because it doesn't have a large enough of a population and GDP. The country needs a stronger industry and more people. A population of 2.4 mil people is laughable. A single city in US like chicago essentially has as many people as the whole country of Lithuania.

Success cannot be measured in subscriber count. Being proactive with collaborations and forming a UA-camr community around a niche topic will increase subscriber counts quickly. Publishing quality content that will be on UA-cam forever is a success! Imagine if your channel got 100k subscribers yet your views dropped down to 2k per video. That would feel much worse and would be punished by the algorithm.
