Flintlock Operator
Приєднався 30 січ 2019
In our breakneck world of whiz-bangs and gadgets, we take a few steps back to learn and practice fundamentals of living, self reliance and moral character that our ancestors of the 18th century frontier possessed. All with a liberal dose of shenanigans of course.
Building a Frontier Camp + Long Hunter Camp Chores!
At the end of a long, hard day of exploring the Kentucky frontier nothing is more desirable than a cozy primitive camp with meat to eat and a fire for company! Today we build a temporary overnight camp that will protect us from the dew or unexpected showers. We also tend to basic camp chores such as: cleaning our firelock, casting roundball, and making charred material for our next fire! Join us as we have a relaxing evening around the fire!

A Walk Up Pilot Knob

One of the blessings of getting to wander Kentucky is being able to walk in the footsteps of great men like Daniel Boone. My friends and I hiked up to the summit of Pilot Knob this week to take in the breathtaking beauty of the Bluegrass nearly the same as when Boone himself stood here to behold the majesty of Kentucky! Much thanks to @itsthatguysmitty for coming along and getting some awesome ...

Flintlock Maintenance pt. 1: "On the Run"
Переглядів 2,8 тис.3 місяці тому
Flintlocks are beautiful and masterful pieces of artwork and engineering. They're also incredibly finicky and need constant attention to keep them reliable. While flintlocks are obsolete for modern warfare, there was a time when they were cutting edge technology. To living historians, reenactors, and muzzle loading enthusiasts, they still are. And knowing the proper ways of maintaining and clea...

Lovin' it!
Great stuff brother!
To be fair in regards to a faster weapon you would also have a targe which ir you can catch the weapon in the targe gives a great opening! Slim but possible.
proof that guns are, in fact toys...
Thank you
"The Gael"
Then over 2000 miles later they were standing on a 10 mile long dry lakebed, bin the shadow of Mt. Baldy. Over 10,000 feet tall and they were looking at the straight up for 3000 feet in places. To their left what appeared to be 3 even wider mountains than Baldy. To the right what looks just like the place they had just barely made it out of (death valley, the hottest place on earth, period) and they have no idea where the two or three very small springs are and the water that bod on El Mirage always stays about 2 miles away. They had to be thinking " Christ, there ain't even no Indians out here and the sage flavored quail and Jack rabbit and rattlesnake just makes you thirsty because that's what white sage does. But they set a course for what is hopefully a pass in what has to be a 75 mile long 10,000 foot tall mountain range. Many died but the did find the pass and stottard wells maybe Holcomb valley and at the top they saw the promised land. The shining masterpiece of God himself. That's right baby, they were at the Screaming Chicken and it was a KCAL SATURDAY SCREAMING CHICKEN CAR WASH. Staffed by the girls from DejaVu and Spearmint rhino and club 215. And Tar's wacky old lady is out there using her huge knockers like them floppy pieces of carpet that lather up your car at the carwash and you try not to stare at the surgical scar that splits those big ol sweater puppets. And they all had beers and maybe a couple of bumps with the club 215 girls. And all the women leave pregnant and the men leave bleeding a little bit. And as the last call girl ride off with the skinny bikers that don't see the pack of hot dogs looking skin and fat on the backs of their necks. You here the bikes roar and you hear them skinny bikers hollering "Godammit lean the way I lean baby!!!" THE END. 🤓

@@bobscar327 Thank you for watching and subscribing! Welcome aboard!
I like your blog or whatever you call this.
I will, flintlock operator. I will join you. In your walk. Through history.
Aye, me as well. I'll bring the venison and you bring the grog.
Can you tell me where you bought your colonial green wool coat? it looks like a nice one.
@@nicks.1944 Sure! It's the "workman's coat" from South Union Mills.
It looks great and I would like to have one made. Is that the dark green wool or the light green that they have on their site? Thanks for the prompt reply
@@nicks.1944 I think they have changed their color choices since I bought that a while ago, but I ordered the darkest green that they offer. I believe I also asked them to add a few inches of length to the bottom of the coat because of my height. Thank you and good luck!
What a view… 2:45
It’s like woodsman ASMR.
Great videos as always. For a second i thought it would just be you running away hahah!
Hey I can see my house in this video
I trust and know your skill in handling with your rifle, but I keep freaking out that you're gonna drop your rifle when you twirl it like a baton! Keep up the great work man!
I heard ot read onfe that tomohawk blades would be removed from the handle to be used as a hide scrape.
Another idea to help with walking in snowy and icy conditions in general (regardless of time period) if you’re using a staff or walking stick (or even a cane, as I do) as a walking aid (which I’m sure you found out after a little while of using the staff) is to, instead of just landing flat with the staff or walking stick and then stepping, push off with it as you move into the next stride of your step, much like skiers do with their poles when they move into their next stride.
Hangers, Xiphos' and some gladius' are my favorite types of short swords

Pilot Knob, actually. Definitely don't drop it! it's a 60' fall!
Cool topic guys. Very informative.

Excellent presentation brother. I look forward to seeing more.
Awesome
Another element of looking, listening, and smelling is not just catching the sounds, sights, and smells of hostile actions towards you, but also sensing the lack of sights, sounds, and smells that you should expect to experience in any given area. It’s somewhat of a trope in movies, particularly with frontier settings, but it’s a trope that exists because of the truth behind it; the forest/wilderness is naturally a noisy place, full of wildlife chattering away, so if you hear it all suddenly go silent, take warning and keep your head on a swivel because something “unnatural” is getting set to happen. Similarly, if you sense disruption/agitation within the natural patterns of the environment (e.g. animals acting spooky, etc.) be on your guard, because something relatively unnatural for that environment is causing that agitation or disruption.
Rolling The Gael (Promontory) with the knife and tomahawk charge was just perfectly played! 👌👌👍
If I did this everyone in the comments would be complaining about muzzle discipline lol, I had people complain cause I flip my bayonet out and “oh my god had my hand in front of the barrel” the terror lol, I don’t take myself seriously all the time, people in the comments do lol
The practice of mixing the parched corn with maple sugar was actually also learned from the native peoples, but the proper rendering that would have been learned was to mix the maple sugar with a type of meal made by grinding up the parched corn to a consistency somewhere between a corn grit and proper cornmeal, which was known as rock hominy or rock-a-hominy. With the salt pork, you could soak that as part of a broth for a soup or stew you’re making (if you don’t add it in altogether) to give it its saltiness and also make the pork a little less salty. I’m a little surprised that pocket soup didn’t make the list, although perhaps I haven’t been into the historical source material enough to distinguish that as a foodstuff that was used primarily by common travelers as opposed to the long hunters. Also, for anyone who might be interested, the Canadian dish using pemmican referenced in the video is called rubaboo.
Great video, I have to make that trip there. Thank you for sharing.
Dude this is so me and my friend at the cabin in southern Ohio.
Love you channel man. Keep it up. I’m a big time lover of lever actions and single action revolvers I have a good set up a gear to match the Arizona place I’m in.
