Contemplations and thoughts

  • Taking a break from filming, I decided to record some thoughts I was having at the time. The question of "why do I do this" comes up often in my mind as I have spent more than a decade pretending to be an explorer from another century. This journey had to be more than "pretending" more than larping and cosplay, so what does it mean? In this video I share some of my thoughts about the interest and hobby and answer that lingering question, "why, and what does it mean"?

The measure of a man comes down to moments, spread out like dots of pain on the canvas on life. Everything you were, everything you'll someday be, resides in the small, seemingly ordinary choices of everyday life.....Each decision seems as insignificant as a left turn on an unfamiliar road when you have no destination in mind. But the decisions accumulate until you realize one day that they've made you the man that you are. Bear in mind that the measure of a man is the worth of the things he cares about.

So glad I came across your channel. I shared two of your videos on the coalition of historical trackers Facebook page.
I’m from Virginia, and I would be dressed like you if I was still back there, but I’m in Missouri.
A little later in the historical timeline. Very active at Fort Atkinson in Nebraska, where I portray a French Canadian frontiersmen.
I love bringing the old fort to life, and I enjoy this hobby, for the very reasons you were able to put into words.
Keep up the good work. You’d be a perfect fit at the “School of the Longhunter“ at Prickett’s Fort, West Virginia.

Hey Drake! Hobbies require motivation... and like most hobbies... you either, "Get it!" or you don't. Reenacting the life of someone living on the 18th Century American Frontier is not for everybody... but for those who do... the rewards are many! I'll see you down the trail!

I live in the Ohio River valley, and my 6 th Great grandfather was Captain John Baker,of a militia group. He had a fortified place, called Baker's Station, that was in existence from 1784_1794 in the Western Virginia frontier, today West Virginia. It's probably a 35i minute drive !!!

I love your channel man, i got started in living history with 1700's kit i would hunt up in michigan in the far north woods with my flintlock i made, along with the clothing. I agree with getting lost like its back in time all over again even just for a little bit. Now i got into the 1850's and early 1900's. Keep up the outstanding work!

You do it, because a person watching you will learn way more than a classroom. I had an discussion with trying to explain about heat exhaustion, frostbite and other weather related troubles outside. I was talking to a know it all, of course his buddies jumped in to argue me down. Like on one of the Sunday talk shows. One conservative too 3 or 4 liberals.
