Setting Up a Temporary Longhunter Camp

  • On the dangerous Kentucky frontier men rarely traveled alone, but occasionally found it necessary to spend a night or two alone when a days hunt went long or they were caught by dark far from the safety of the forts and settlements. Today we set up a simple camp. Nothing grand, but a shelter to keep light rain and dew off, fire, a warm blanket, and something hot to eat. The explorers and frontiersmen of the past needed little to live and survive in the woods and we do our best to emulate that simplicity!

Time machines, we don't have them yet, but for a select few that just doesn't matter. Being part of that select, few is something money can't buy because it is as priceless poultice for the soul.

Exactly how I feel! When you're in the woods you could be in any century and the longer you spend out there with the right clothing and equipment the further back in time your mind slips.

Love your content brother. Even my wife enjoys watching, she made the observation that where you shot this at looks like our property down in TN. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to more videos.

Thank you so much! Tennessee is beautiful. I spent a summer wandering around Land Between the Lakes! Glad your wife enjoys the videos! My wife supports me as well and she actually filmed most of this video! Best of luck!

That's awesome! This kind of shelter is pretty ubiquitous throughout history, just the materials of the covering change. Good luck with camping!
