- The Boy Scout's motto is "be prepared", and as outdoor enthusiasts we must be as well! Here are a few small pieces of kit that i carry around that can do anything from save your life to be handy to have on hand. Best of all, you won't even notice you're carrying them!

Food, water, and brains! And a sweater!
Back when I was a kid (1968) I was into what, at the time, was called " pioneer skills." Then somewhere in the 80s it was called " survivalism."😅
Now, as I enter the winter of my life, I've come full circle.
Gone are the BDUs, the "tacticool" junk.
Instead of a semiauto something or another, I carry a flintlock smoothbore.
Its interesting how us guys go in a circle as we age.

Great video!! I keep in my wallet Fresnel lens it's a small credit card size magnifier for an additional way to start fire, I also keep about 3ft of aluminum foil folded up for makeshift containers to boil water in and a handful of band aids as a small med kit. You can also buy small metal containers that fit on a key ring for carrying medicine or fire tender in the form of vaseline cotton balls. I would add a small whistle to the neck knife kit for signaling and maybe a trash bag in a back pocket for shelter. I think that would make a pretty good kit. Atb.
I might just have to add a couple of things to my keychain… 😂 I don’t know if I could pull off a neck knife as well as you, though.

Most tattoo artist will apply an emergency identification marking on either the feet or just under the arm of children for less than 50 dollars U.S. with a typical inscription of the child's Social security number and blood type. This is an awesome gift for anyone you love and care about. If you are like me and really don't know what the Longterm implications of having your kids RFID chipped, this is the safer way to go. This is also great peace of mind for parents of children who either are too young to memorize their address or vocalize it yet or who may be limited because they are special. Additionally, many law enforcement agencies will fingerprint your child for a small fee.

Do you know of any way that they would have quickly loaded their rifles while in a risky situation? Like an alternative to the powder patch ball method?
I've shot my rifle with just powder and ball. You thump the butt of the rifle on the ground the seat everything and as long as the muzzle isn't depressed the ball won't roll forward. I've also loaded powder-ball-patch in the rifle for speedier loading like a smoothbore. The way I understand they did it was to pour the powder into the muzzle from the horn (SUPER dangerous, don't do it), then spit a ball down the bore (again, dangerous for several reasons, and then fire immediately.
