    I really like how this came out. I have seen Tactical Hawks before with this shape, but I like the wood and head here better. It would be nice if someone from Cold Steel watched this and got them to make a classic spike hawk like they would have used back in the day.

      They make a couple of spike hawks-unfortunately far heavier than the historic versions. Sluggish and slow.

    Great video-I subscribed! Years ago I really enjoyed modifying Cold Steel tomahawks, but I found Track of the Wolf’s Rifleman’s Belt Axe to be much better-it’s a kit that’s actually within historic size and weight. The head is cast 4140-and really a cast steel head will hold up just fine after heat treatment. It also lacks the ugly set screw. Comes with handle and wedge 👍

    You can also file small groves into the edge of the hole and use a brass screw and hit the head to smash it into the groves and file it off to get a cool looking rivet or plug thats what iv did on my last ones anyway

    Awesome video!! 👏 I also make my own stuff. And at times modify existing stuff into something more period correct. Very nice job!! The hawk definitely looks 18th century.

    I just wanted to say it is inspiring to see someone who loves History as much as you do and working with what they have in order become more accurate. I just got back from a F&I Tactical Event this weekend and this video made me want to get up and start trying to MacGyver a forge so I can do this! Keep up the good work.

    Incredible! At the end I kinda expected cold steel heavy metalish or rockish tune as a background to meat cutting, I was suprised by that more period correct music :D

    I meant to ask, what is your pipe made of that you’re using to get the air from the blow drier? Drain pipe? I’m thinking heat from coals would melt pvc.

    Why convert it from a friction fit handle to a standard axe handle? Isn't a friction fit more historically accurate?

    you should use a larger volume of oil. more oil prevent the oil from getting to warm and your heat treat will not be as consistent. Water would actually be better but you will have to draw th esteel back by tempering.

    Your channel is an encouragement to us all! I’m modifying my great-grandfather’s hatchet into a Hudson Bay style tomahawk. How long would you recommend making the handle?

  • @DRGW_-qw6ko
    @DRGW_-qw6ko 2 місяці тому

    Stupid question, what was your final over all length of the haft, and do you feel like a longer handle is better in a fighting Tomahawk over a short handle?
