Приєднався 5 тра 2015
I believe science is the best method for explaining what we see in the world and the universe around us.
In my entire life I have never been presented with a better method to establish reality.
But, this channel is not about what is true or not true.
It is about the reasons that people have to believe things.
And on this channel I evaluate those reasons using the scientific method.
Science rules! So let's enjoy the Sound Of Science!

WHY WOULD GOD CREATE AN EVIL WORLD?
#christianity #god #church #bible #atheism #atheist #christian #jesus #religion #discussion #questions #evolution
Today I stumbled upon a video made by christian apologist IMBeggar.
In his videos he uses fancy animations to clarify his religious points of view, defending the existence of the christian god character from the bible book.
The video is called “Why would God create a world with so much evil and suffering - then allow it all to happen?”. IMBeggar deals with an important aspect of the problem of evil. And I think that the problem of evil is one of the stronger refutations against the assumption that the christian god exists.
Most christian apologists on youtube use the most silly and ridiculous arguments that can be refuted very easily. So I hope that IMBeggar perhaps is someone whose arguments can offer me at least some kind of challenge.
So, let let's dive into this.

In the absence of God, why isn't nature normative? Cruelty abounds among animals just as much as altruism does. If we are nothing but animals, why should we condemn cruelty inflicted by people and not condemn identical cruelty among chimpanzees? What makes us so profoundly different from them?
My question is how come this debunking has to come from a youtube person and not an official other video from someone from oxford?
Good question. Maybe there are Oxford professors who debunk the crap out of Lennox, but I am not aware of that.
@@sound.of.science my concern is more on equality if we allow him to talk in front students they should do the same for the opposite camp.
Of course "god" couldn't find Adam and Eve as he was walking through the garden in the cool of the day, because Adam and Eve hid in the trees when they heard his voice. Apparently, Adam and Eve figured out that "god" sucked at playing Hide-and-Seek. That was a lesson that "god" learned well, because nobody has seen him since.
Nice one!
One of the many plot holes in the storybook.
My bet it's the same reason a supposed all knowing being would put that tree in the middle of the garden. It's just made up to sell a religion, or two.
What you're describing is consequentialism. Consequentialism fails as a moral theory, however, consequences of a particular action and the balance of good to bad outcomes within those consequences. The reality is that every action has an infinite number of consequences into the future, whose interplay with the consequences of other actions are totally inseparable and unknowable. Therefore, it is impossible to ever know whether the balance of good to evil of a particular action lands on the good side or the evil side, you would have to be omniscient and able to see the future to know that. What we can know for sure, at least for ourselves, and what we can be convinced of by others, is that their intentions for our own intentions were good or evil at the time of taking the action. For example, if I see someone holding a gun to another person's head and I shoot the person with the gun in order to save the would-be victim, that was a good thing based on consequentialism since I decreased the overall suffering in the world. However it turns out that I was mistaken and the guy with the gun was actually the good guy who was holding the other person until the police got there which means I actually shot a good person and therefore by consequentialism I did an evil thing. But it actually turns out that the guy with the gun originally, though he was holding the other person for the police, was actually an incredibly corrupt individual who had killed hundreds of people through his life and had several in his basement he was currently torturing therefore, not having killed him was a bad thing, and my initial action is now good by consequentialism. The point is, as we learn more about the consequences of the action, it's categorization as good or evil can change over and over again what does it change throughout this entire story, no matter how much we learn in the future, is that when I saw the situation unfolding I thought the man with the gun was evil, and I tried to destroy evil. That is, in and of itself, a good thing. It is a good thing to do what you think is good. it is an evil thing to do what you think is evil, regardless of what the long-term consequences of your actions are
Christian apologists would claim it's for the "benefit" of Adam and Eve. However, that means Yahweh was being deceptive.
He was deceptive before they even ate from the tree, he told them they would surely that very day if they ate the fruit while the serpent only stated they would not die.... only one of them was honest and it was not the Christian God.
@@jackwhitbread4583 that's what I meant.
If you assume there's a moral law giver you admit you have no morals on your own and need some imaginary being holding your leash tight, so you don't end up eating babies for fun!
That is missing the point God created the devil knowing that he would become evil And then blames the devil for all evil when it's all Gods fault for creating him in the first place God is passing the buck when clearly the buck stops with him So he's just a big liar or a complete psychopath Both IMO No wonder Christianity is dying You have to be completely ignorant and delusional to believe any of that BS
Use a picture of an atheist
Its demolish long time ago... smart people do that..let say this there is 50 percent that God exist and 50 that is no God...what you think in your heart and brain..what your Blood tell you.. Observe
And that would be an example of what 'smart' people think?
@@sound.of.science You cant deny that God existe with scinence of probability of 50 percent... that 50 percent is very big problem for you
Ah... Very smart, yes. Can you please share your calculation for that 50/50%?
@@sound.of.science you have 50 percent..you want to prove that God not existe..not me to prove that there is God
"you have 50 percent" I know that that is your claim. Can you show me the calculation upon which you base that number?
He isn't the smartest god in the pantheon.
Because Yahweh is only a silly minor god in the Hebrew bible
Yes, The biblical claims about Yahweh indicate that he is a cruel, narcissistic, buffoon. He is such a nutcase that he had to get his own son tortured to death, just in order to amend his own laws.
Why would god want to stop humans knowing what was good, and what was evil? Without the concept of good & evil, humans could just kill each other without any concern. Is god a complete idiot?
You can't expect much from the uneducated writers of the bible.
Yep you don't need to know anything else to confidently dismiss Christianity and Judaism.
What a bunch of crap
You don't need to assume anything when you have evidence.
What is to be gained from arguing with an atheist?
Discovering that there is no good reason to believe that there is a god.
@@sound.of.science ok. Enjoy the rain!
Progress from what was before then, whoever did that addition to the bible did a good thing, don't you think.
Your argument only applies to a world without a god. If the christian god were to exist he could have created a world without slavery. And then this kind of progress would not have been needed in the first place.
@@sound.of.science It was progress though yes? That rule being added to the bible had a net good in that slaves took less severe beatings. It would have saved the lives of many slaves, yes?
"It was progress though yes?" Sure. If in a world ruled by mankind, slaves can be killed without repercussions, introducing at least some kind of regulation could indeed be meaningful progress. So cheers to the part of humanity that made this possible. But in a world with a god, this kind of progess gets a totally different meaning. This god created a world with slavery in the first place and he could choose to completely end slavery any day of the week. Yet he only introduces minor restrictions and leaves millions of slaves suffer for centuries to come. Cheering these regulations within that context is like being thankful to your dictator if he decides to kill less of your family members instead of everyone. That is progress though?
@@sound.of.science So I see three possibilities in regard to slavery. 1:The bible is completely of the mind of men who believe there is God but they are wrong, there isn’t. If this is this case then that wrongly held belief in God led to progress in regard to slavery. 2:There is a God and he is not as portrayed in the bible and has no input in our lives. As above the fact men believed he existed resulted in progress in regard to slavery as above. 3. God is real and inspired the biblical authors and pointed them in the right direction. The same would apply as above, the result is progress in the right direction. You can obviously argue if the latter is true why didn’t God just say to the prophet, slavery is wrong, tell the people to abolish this practice. The argument back to that would be, would people have listened, you and I don’t listen to what the bible says, what makes you think they would of when it would be such a monumental shift in life. To me the bible, especially the New Testament seems to impact the world in a positive way. I admit that my knowledge of both bibles is scant but they seem to produce net good. If there is something in the bible that resulted in net bad I’m sure you will be able to pint it out though.
"So I see three possibilities in regard to slavery." Often, when people say "there are X possibilities", they disregard the possibilities they'd rather not discuss. But let's see. "1:The bible is completely of the mind of men who believe there is God but they are wrong, there isn’t. If this is this case then that wrongly held belief in God led to progress in regard to slavery." Wait, there of course are more possibilities. For example: the bible is just a storybook written by men who didn't believe in a god but who had the purpose of subjecting the populus. In that case the motive of their phrases about slavery could have been to sustain slavery for the longer term by regulating it. That would not be progress because it would hinder abolishing slavery all-together. "2:There is a God and he is not as portrayed in the bible and has no input in our lives. As above the fact men believed he existed resulted in progress in regard to slavery as above." As above; in this scenario it could also be the case that those who wrote the bible did not believe in god but had other purposes, like oppressing the populus and sustaining slaverry. "3. God is real and inspired the biblical authors and pointed them in the right direction. The same would apply as above, the result is progress in the right direction." But that of course is the most problematic scenario. Millions of lives are lost because this god created a world full of slavery. And then all this god does is he "points us in the right direction"? Nobody needs an all-powerful god for that, we can do that ourselves. "You can obviously argue if the latter is true why didn’t God just say to the prophet, slavery is wrong, tell the people to abolish this practice." Why would he need a prophet in the first place? If god is god he can just end slavery instantly. "To me the bible, especially the New Testament seems to impact the world in a positive way." That is a bold statement. Especially since the god character sets such violent examples from the very beginning of the bible. "If there is something in the bible that resulted in net bad I’m sure you will be able to pint it out though." Of course it is not easy to establish direct connections to phrases in the bible and bad stuff that happens in the world as we speak. But the god character slowly and deliberately drowning everyone (including babies and children) in a planned and systematic manner because he was angry at some people is a very violent example. If then the church teaches christians that everything this god character does is right and just, then the bible creatres a rather risky pretext for violent incidents. Anyone who understands just a bit about how humans behave should know how irresponsible it is to include that kind of content in a supposed holy-book. Unless of course the purpose of that book was to oppress people.
Who created evil Goonies on drugs equal god
I mean, he's not entirely wrong, it just so happens that it's been us all along who labeled actions as wrong and right, good and bad, and who set the standards to which we evaluate them.
Yes, he is entirely wrong! At least, I don't need some moral law giver to threaten me to NOT eat or torture babies for fun. thus also eliminating objective morality as a thing! And I surely hope you also don't need a law to prevent you from being an ass towards others!
@jipersson I don't think you understood my comment.
It takes religion to make such a complete dolt believe he is right.
Evil is a subject matter. We are the definer of what happens to be evil. A hurricane, for instance, is not good or evil. We sometimes call pulling a chair out from under someone as a joke evil. Is killing someone that is a killer an act of evil?
One can make an assumption about something but then they have to gather data to support their argument. He just adds assumption on assumption. An assumption in itself isn't proof of anything.
If it's bad it's my fault. If it's good its god's credit. If it's bad and god did it, its still my fault somehow. If it's good and i did it, it's still god's credit somehow. Someone feels very "double standardish" about this but I'm not sure what it is.
And sometimes when it's bad it's demons or Satan 😂😂
The bible is chock-full of contradictions, genocide, and immorality, just to name a few. If a god were actually real, there would be no room for interpretation or arguments. There would be ONLY ONE religion and god...........
Miracles have a 100% fail rate. That is, every single claim of, miracle, that has ever been made that could be investigated properly, has always turned out to either be a natural event we already understand well or fraud. And this fail rate has been in lock-step with scientific discovery for the past 400 years. The better we get at science, the less miracles we hear about.

That daily dose of wisdom channel is an absolute joke I often respond to his videos in the comments to point out all the flaws in his argument He has never responded at all to anyone who challenges him Because he can't He is totally disingenuous Blinded by his faith It's all argument from authority, God of the gaps, false premise and huge leaps in logic to reach his obviously false conclusion But he does give you a good laugh He fails every time He's not promoting Christianity, He is showing what BS it all is
Wisdom and religion don't go together.
@@duncanbryson1167 Definitely The irony of his channels name obviously escapes him
Jordan Peterson jumped the shark a while ago.
Theists ask, "Then, how did the universe came into existence" as if they can reply to, "How did your God come into existence?"
This is a common tactic employed by "apologists" when they have no evidence to demonstrate any of their claims. They make a claim, then pile a claim on top of that claim, then pile another claim on top of that claim, ad infinitum. This magically equals evidence for ALL the claims, and they proclaim "...therefore, 'god' exists". Think John Lennox.
The visual animation is the reason I am giving this video a thumbs down. Pick something else. It's not relevant to the content. It's annoying.
If faith is evidence, Christians have no right to dismiss other religions' beliefs because faith-evidence applies to them too.
Why is there nothing? = Why does nothing exist? Illogical!
May I ask you is there such a thing as consciousness and if the answer is yes of course: then what is consciousness and where does it originate. Consciousness is the life force energy that exists in every thing. Could it be Consciousness is what man calls GOD?
God loves us so much, he already has torture chamber ready to brutalize us for eternity if we don't love him back.
Typical nonsensical religious gibberish. Pure speculation, assumptions, and idiocy.
H sapiens evolved to cooperate as a means of survival.....scores of thousands of years before the currently popular gods. Does anyone think that people didn't know that killing, stealing, lying, diminished the chances of survival until Moses showed up with the tablets? Morals evolved long before Allah and Yahweh.
Well, S.O.S, so ironic you mention risking one's life to save a child. And yet atheism costs millions of children their lives through abortion.
What's ironic is that you keep promoting your god of the Bible, a god that murdered nearly every person on the planet, including innocent children, babies and pregnant women. We call that genocide.
You just have a Cthulhu shaped hole in your heart
Depends on your concept of "God". If your speaking of the Great Cosmic Muffin in the Sky, well no. Also if you object to the power of organized religion and the influence that has on people. ... Yup. But if your talking about what drives human beings as individuals and as a collective (culture/society), that's a different thing. These Drives are usually hidden to us or we are unaware of how and why we act and react to situations. You can call that psychology if you want but if you want to call that God, I wouldn't dissagree. It's the hidden force that drives us either over the precipice that we are unaware exists, or navigating our existence and becoming aware of the potential for our actions that result from our belief system.
It's called training Some can self-induce knowledge/skill in themselves, and others need extra factor
The lack of compelling evidence for any god aside, why would a loving, logical, merciful and all-powerful god worth its salt sacrifice itself for our sake, but not destroy evil for our sake? When you loosen that thread, the rest of the "god morality" unravels all on its own.
He didnt even sacrifice himself, it's not a sacrifice if you resurrect. The most you can say is that he had an unpleasant weekend!!
If God gave us our sense of morality then where did God get his because I cast doubt on anyone's "morals" who gRapes teenage virgins, drowns the world in a temper tantrum, tortures for fun, kills for fun, self deletion for fun... God is a vile psychopath
