George Carlin has been dead since 2008, and this particular performance is a decade earlier still. It really says a lot about the enduring power and truth of his messaging that these "men of God" have chosen him as the subject of their criticism at such a late date
Probably they chose Carlin because he can’t answer back. At least that’s what I think when I listen to apologists criticizing Hitchens. Plenty of LIVING atheists who espouse the same ideas. Why not engage with them instead of bringing up people who can’t possibly reply?
Apologists are always 20 years behind the rest of us. Shit, they won't shut up about Darwin, who's been dead for over 100 years, as if there hasn't been thousands of scientists who have contributed oodles of evidence to support the theory of evolution. But what was more disturbing was that they didn't seem to be AWARE they were arguing against a dead man. Friar Doofus and Friar Dinkus aren't just going for low hanging fruit; they're picking it up off the ground and acting like they planted the tree. RIP Mr. Carlin.

They have to use bad arguments instead of evidence; they don't have any! -And the "church clown" title is apt: They dress up and try to make us laugh...
Religious people act in an irrational manner, by claiming to know a god that they, themselves, define as being unknowable. They refer to an ancient book of unverifiable claims. One of those claims has to do with the ridiculous concept of a human sacrifice. Why would an allegedly all powerful god need a sacrifice at all? It is a stupid idea. If god created the laws, he could amend, or repeal, them.
Now wait a second. In trying to counter with a claim that God is loving, his first reference is to the exodus? Where God inflicts countless horrors on innocent people and animals. And then after they leave Egypt, ruthlessly kills those that don't slavishly follow commands. My favorite "loving" act in the story was God directly killing two significant, and apparently devout priests, for incorrectly lighting a ritual fire. But then these guys are Catholic, so I guess rituals are supremely important. I am glad they are offended by Carlin's words. The truth can hurt, especially to the hypocrites.
Even better: Bad things happen to people because they made bad choices from which god can't stop them doing without interfering with their free will. So why did he "harden Pharaoh's heart" several times (preventing him to do the "right" thing out of his own free will) and for overwriting his free will the Egyptians (not only the Pharaoh) get those plagues? How did baby make a wrong decision and gets cancer from that? How could someone hit by a car have known that walking to the supermarket is a really bad decision at that time on that specific day? Questions over Questions...
I find it strange how children's film and cartoon makers know that a child can quickly recognise a villain with subtle clues yet somehow many adults fail to spot creeps like this. Do adults loose this skill?
One man’s villain is another man’s hero. Children can spot the villain in a movie bc it’s all laid out for them where as in real life there’s nuisance. A child wouldn’t even understand these concepts in the video to be able to call these people “villains”. These guys in the video suck but to call them villains is your own viewpoint and many others would say your the villain. I don’t agree with that but I’m just saying
Children would need to be TRAINED to accept these red flags, including the odd shadowy clothing. But regardless, children trust adults and teens want to rebel, beyond that you are right I think it’s pretty tabula-rasa
No, it's either beaten or brow beaten out of them. They get indoctrinated and brainwashed and reprogrammed which starts at birth with their Idy hut parents and continues into their adult life while being reinforced by those around them
"Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. "just move" is a relatively common response, usually from a specific political position, in response to anyone pointing out that the current state of affairs isn't ideal and there needs to be some rework, usually relating to urban planning or pulling back some corporate power. And that is what religion does to people - if you're so confident that god is on your side, you can truly convince yourself that poor people simply chose to be born in a poor/bad place and continue to choose being poor, just because. But, well, the psychology of religion applies to other cult-like/tribal structures as well, like political parties...
What makes George Carlin so freaking good, is that he wasn't making jokes, he was pointing out actual and factual reality without obfuscation or embellishment! If anyone is a jokester and a clown, then it's these two Deep Friars, or maybe morons is a more correct word.

If that guy could name one place anywhere on the planet that is safe from one natural disaster or another, i would both be surprised and call him a liar. No where that i can think of is immune to nature. Some are safer than others, sure. And we have also made progress in minimizing many natural disaster's impacts, but that typically comes with being privileged enough to be able to live in those area's. But no where can you fully escape those risks. The only conscious choice one could make to avoid such disasters entirely would be to not exist beyond the point that you have the ability to make conscious choices.
10:00 "Countless times he (god) showed mercy to the people and they kept screwing up. Clearly he doesn't just throw people into hell, he shows mercy" What good deed/act is so good that it could earn an infinite reward? What bad deed/act is so bad that it could earn an infinite punishment? Against the infinite which is definitionally without boundary there is no deed good enough to earn an infinite reward so too there is no bad deed bad enough to earn an infinite punishment and if the punishment is finite then *ALL* bad deeds are merely a bump on the road to an infinite reward. So all bad deeds/acts no matter how miniscule earn the same punishment because how else can an infinite reward keep it's value? Heaven doesn't work anymore than Hell as a concept. If there is an imperceptible "afterlife" then we have no description for it and all the words from these two mouths are simply part of the con. As George Carlin also said "God needs money"..

@@grahvis, The original story was written by polytheists. Gods created a word, and then a garden. They had better things to do than to tend to their garden so they created a caretaker, Adam. That caretaker was lonely so they created an assistant... that assistant was flawed so they gave him another, Eve. In this garden was a tree of knowledge and a tree of immortality (two of the things humans desire the most as they will counter two of our fears, the fear of the unknown and the fear of death). When a serpent told the caretakers that they were lied to... they ate the fruit of knowledge. So, to prevent them from eating the fruit of immortality, they were cast out. That's one of the two (or more) stories in the bible which dealt with the origin of the human species... the writers knew they weren't like animals, so they elevated themselves above them... to be special as no other animal was able to talk like they did. It was the Book of Job, written around the same time, which explained evil, natural disasters, etc. It's important to note that the writers of the bible have completely different views of the gods than modern Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and their offshoot religions. When the books were written, the gods were merely much more powerful than mere mortals, but were just as flawed. Monothiesm, All-powerful, All-knowing, Creator of Everything, All-Loving traits were all added to the religions over time... which is why the bible is extremely edited... The edits are very obvious for those with the proper training/education.

Only seen the younger guy before in his open letter to atheists. Yeah he does the "genuine" nice and friendly routine pretty well, but the more you listen the more you pick up on the superiority complex tucked under the rug.
@@sound.of.science,
Breaking in the Habit is a product of his Church... that is, he'll never turn a criminal in because Confessional is between the abusive person and God. At no point is he permitted to tell the person to turn themselves in, nor is he allowed to tell anyone what was told... because doing either of those things can cause the person to step away from god... which is the opposite of his job, to bring people _closer_ to god. Sure, a few children will needlessly suffer, but it's all for a good cause.
More importantly, priests, like himself, are mandated by laws in many places to report _suspected_ cases of child abuse to authorities. If he is told about an instance of child abuse by the abuser seeking help... and things get worse for the children to the point the abuser is arrested... if the abuser ever mentions talking about his actions in confessional... Mr. Breaking in the Habit has committed a crime. *Shrugs* How is he moral for breaking laws? Because god's laws come before mans'... or something like that. It's been a while since I watched his video regarding crime and punishment.

Pity it is all bullshit
The way I understand this (not believe I must add) is that the angels rebelled because they wanted to help and not punish humanity. Obviously at time of writing this was the worst sin but now (most) people understand people a bit better we can see that this is a story which attempts to manipulate and control people but has backfired

George Carlin was the living example of Mel Brooks ' "Stand Up Philosopher".
He was difficult to irrefute and always funny.
that ending....can you imagine him saying that to your face....how could you resist the urge to punch him
Bravo! I wish I could give this video more than one like. A great video with superb commentary. Excellent job!
Wow, thank you!
George Carlin has been dead since 2008, and this particular performance is a decade earlier still.
It really says a lot about the enduring power and truth of his messaging that these "men of God" have chosen him as the subject of their criticism at such a late date
Well said...
Probably they chose Carlin because he can’t answer back. At least that’s what I think when I listen to apologists criticizing Hitchens. Plenty of LIVING atheists who espouse the same ideas. Why not engage with them instead of bringing up people who can’t possibly reply?
That's why we are here...: To George!!! He was one of the greatest!
RIP Mr. Carlin.
Your absolutely spot on. The Daily Wire went after Christopher Hitchens recently despite him being dead for years
Why do apologists ignore Isaiah where it says God says HE creates evil? They don't want to acknowledge that their god is a psychopath.
"I'm a wrathful god. A vengeful god"
"Love is kind, caring, patient, does not keep score..."
By their book's own definition of love their god isn't loving. *Shrugs* See "there are no contradictions in the bible" for a way out of this very obvious problem, lol.
Carlin is a legend! Dearly missed! Too bad I never had the chance to see him live. All his shows are timeless classics.
Also, how dare you question the existence of the invisible moon elephant!? 😯
Exactly. Especially in the time-frame and culture in which Carlin developed his material, he was way ahead of the curve.
They have to use bad arguments instead of evidence; they don't have any! -And the "church clown" title is apt: They dress up and try to make us laugh...
"Clowns are the pegs on which the circus is hung."
P. T. Barnum
He sent two bears to kill 40 children for mocking Elisha. A case of, the punishment fits the crime.
Never get tired of George Carlins comedic genius. It does get tiresome of hearing people defend a belief in Abrahamic mythology.
@@experienceofchris1108 no.
Children would need to be TRAINED to accept these red flags, including the odd shadowy clothing. But regardless, children trust adults and teens want to rebel, beyond that you are right I think it’s pretty tabula-rasa

No, it's either beaten or brow beaten out of them. They get indoctrinated and brainwashed and reprogrammed which starts at birth with their Idy hut parents and continues into their adult life while being reinforced by those around them
Can't even out-argue Carlin and he's long dead.
Evangelicals have a screw loose. And are dedicated to loosening all other screws.
"Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods and they are unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones." -- Marcus Aurelius
George Carlin seems to have enjoyed his entire life making cynical humour on behalf of stupidity in human behaviour, he would have never said those things about the church if their actions and teachings didn't fit that bill.

Hey the Murderer in Saw is Invisible and on some level entirely mysterious. Therefore we cannot say that the Saw Killer isn't acting out of his obvious Love for all people.
He even makes himself visible through his doll at times and he never directly kills or harms anyone himself, he always let's people send themselves into their suffering by testing their character and morality through his very loving and just machines. Afterall the only people who find themselves in the Saw Killers traps are cheaters, swindlers, killers, corrupt politicians or cops etc, none of the so called victims are ever morally pure so it is direct Evidence that the Saw Killer is Ultimately the most Moral entity throughout the Saw series without a doubt.

Yeah, George Carlin was so hurt, that he had the drive and determination to make it as an extremely famous comedian/philosopher!
And anyway, almost everyone has been hurt! Life is hard for most people. But they persevere! And god has nothing to do with it.
These guys are clowns.
The biggest scam is to tell people that they're born in sin and there's a better place after death, but to be saved a spot they must make donations.

What good deed/act is so good that it could earn an infinite reward?
What bad deed/act is so bad that it could earn an infinite punishment?
Against the infinite which is definitionally without boundary there is no deed good enough to earn an infinite reward so too there is no bad deed bad enough to earn an infinite punishment and if the punishment is finite then *ALL* bad deeds are merely a bump on the road to an infinite reward.
So all bad deeds/acts no matter how miniscule earn the same punishment because how else can an infinite reward keep it's value?

Except that the story is on big plot hole.
@@grahvis,
The original story was written by polytheists.
