Being realistic, GOD means different things to different people, so it helps to ask someone BEFORE having any discussion with them, what God means to them. For those who support the imaginary being in the sky, they just need a simple god to give them a focus at certain points in their lives. For those who think that their god is the only god out of 3,000 or so that exist, then they don't actually want a discussion... they merely want to convince you that they are right.... and they only believe in one god more than an atheist. BUT... for those who believe that a set of guiding principles to separate good from evil is the right way, then they have a chance of creating their own core of right or wrong that will see them through life, and some them may call those principles GOD, but the rules are still man-made and so are open to interpretation by all concerned. More often, people will mistake FAITH with RELIGION and with GOD which are all different things... FAITH being the belief that the core principles by which you live your life will be sufficient to see you through the worst times, RELIGION being the vehicle by which the governing bodies of the day control the masses of people, and GOD being the centrepiece of any religion, so therefore another vehicle to control the masses. By this reckoning, only FAITH has a place in modern society, as long as it is not faith in any particular religion.

To be fair, attrocious and laughable as most theologies are, none of their reprehensible features, ludicrous doctrine, or questionable dogma, add any weight to the notion that there is definitely not some existential being or creator out there, nor for that matter, that there is one. However, if there is 'something' beyond our earthbound mortality, it's for damn sure not anything connected with any of those religions, which are all clearly entirely man-made in origin. But that in itself is not a good reason to never at least consider the possibility that there actually might be some kind of existential thing/whatever out there, which for want of a better description or understanding, we might call a 'god'. As humans, we might actually be incapable of understanding or grasping what is out there, in the same way that an insect in your back garden has no concept of the internet, or an airliner, or a disco or whatever. Thus the most logical, honest and sensible stance in regard to the matter is to simply say 'I don't know, and neither does anyone else'. As such, if we are honest, we'd be more agnostic than atheist, since it's something everyone can be curious about, but as frustrating as it may be to not know an answer, that's never a reason to start making shit up and claiming you 'know', which is baically what all religions do.
"attrocious and laughable as most theologies are, none of their reprehensible features, ludicrous doctrine, or questionable dogma, add any weight to the notion that there is definitely not some existential being or creator out there" The same applies to the notion that Harry Potter doesn't exist.
@@sound.of.science Nope, that is not correct. We know that Harry Potter is a character in JK Rowling's series of juvenile novels about a young lad's wizard adventures. Thus the analogue for this example would be that the existence of a fictional wizard in a series of novels would not mean we could completely dismiss the notion that a real wizard does not exist out there, which is not the point I was making at all.
What's the difference? Both god and Harry Potter are characters in a book. Both could be fictional or real. None of them has been proven to be true, none of them has been proven not to be true. The fact that we know who wrote down the scripture of Harry Potter doesn't mean that he doesn't exist. Why can't Christians simply drop the idea that their god is all-powerful, all-knowing and benevolent, which idea their holy book doesn't even support?
For normal people this may be the case but for someone who is flawed belief in a god may fill a hole in their life that would otherwise leave them looking for answers. A god fills that hole and is the answer to all their questions.
There are some big questions.
Who knows who was the first who asked the big questions. A lot of history has been lost but obviously, there was a first.

Why do I exist?
Why does all this stuff around me exist?
Why do I have parents?
What happens when you die?
What happened to my child, why did he die?
Why do we get sick? Why does bad things happen?
I imagine ancient humans began developing answers and so, religion was born.

Blindingly obvious no god is providing material blessings as worshippers believe; since the most religious countries are the poorest, and most unstable. Yet believers everywhere pray for security and prosperity
The most religious places are not the poorest they have everything they need. What you’ll find in the countries that push back on religion is a country full of mental illness, hatred, jealously and fear. Idk man, I was pretty abusive to other people when I was a child. I would hit kids, break property intentionally, not to mention lie. You must’ve only seen the really well-behaved children, because I certainly wasn’t one of them.
And what exactly is implied by this statement anyway? When kids do things that adults shouldn’t do, it’s not wrong, because they’re “just kids?” Why do we have juvenile hall, then? Why bother with time-out or grounding, or to punish or discipline children at all, just to say “this is acceptable behavior now, but you need to learn to stop doing this by the time you’re an adult?”

Christian's didn't come up with the idea of man being wicked.....Judaism presented that in Genesis 6
There WAS a reason for religion cuz it was a part of our human growth and evolution. Us humans didn't evolve to what we are NOT because we were stronger or more resilient but the opposite. Not everyone can mentally accept meaningless emptiness. Our science and evolution still might not be far enough to have religion obsolete. There was a experiment with mice in a all peaceful environment. It was all good but slowly the mice got violent till a degree they started killing each other and not a single mouse survived. Evolution is not only physical but also bout our mentality.
Just think of a scenario where that the outcome of that experiment had some truth in it and we've evolved faster than we should and most of everyone were very logical right at the start. History of us humans might have a lot less destruction and wars so we never had such a history to learn from and avoid, at the same time, humans have just reached space travel. Believing that we are all advanced logical and rational beings, we gave no thought of a person suddenly going violent.
Imagine, having a person losing it in space, on a space station/craft, which is equipped with the knowledge of science & physics, etc. making it so much easier to sabotage or blowing it up?

"attrocious and laughable as most theologies are, none of their reprehensible features, ludicrous doctrine, or questionable dogma, add any weight to the notion that there is definitely not some existential being or creator out there"
The same applies to the notion that Harry Potter doesn't exist.
If knowing the name of the author of a story means it is not true, then the bible isn't true either, because christians claim to know who the author is.
@@ChockHolocaust We now know quite a bit about the evolution of the western God from one god in a polytheist culture (with a wife!) to the god of the Hebrews while other gods existed (see 1st commandment) to the only god in the universe.
