On a daily basis I have discussions with christians about what they believe and of course about the lack of evidence for what they believe.
In those discussions, one central theme keeps returning over and over and over again: they don't understand what atheism is. They really don't.
Sometimes, it LOOKS like christian apologists understand that atheism only is not believing the claim that a god exists. And then one minute later they make a totally silly remark that clearly shows that they don't understand what atheism is.
Today, I found a youtube channel of a christian who talks about his beliefs and about atheism while building stuff in Minecraft. He made a video called “3 difficult questions for atheists”. This guy has 157.000 subscribers right now. So you christians must think that he is one of the best in addressing these matters. Let's listen to him and let's hope we finally find a christian apologist who understands what atheism is...

I'm an atheist and I have pets. If anyone Christian or atheist hurt my pets. Their life wouldn't be worth spit to me.
Well, it's easy to make statements like "atheists can't explain this" when you fully ignore your burden of evidence for the baseless assertion that "God did it".
Exactly 💯
I like how his making a church in Minecraft is really just building a fortress with giant walls
And he is building it all in cobblestone. Like a degenerate.

If there's a religious person and a dog drowning, the chances are that I'm going to try to save the dog first.
After all, isn't the religious person supposed to believe that they're going to Heaven when they die? So what have they got to be afraid of? The poor dog has no such belief.
Also, if they're a muslim, then the qur'an says that allah plans ALL births and deaths, so if they die, why should they, or any of their muslim friends or family worry or whine?

Lovely. Christians just love to be persecuted, don't they. The whole "War on Christmas" nonsense is hilarious. I remember stumbling over this video. Stopped watching when he said something like "atheist are pro-choice because they don't value human life" and stopped there. There's so much wrong with that, I don't even know where to start. This person isn't worth listening to.
Oh and for his question, human life isn't intrinsically worth more and that of other animals. We only feels that way because we are humans. If aliens came to earth, they would likely valaue themselves more than us, too (assuming they think somewhat simiilar to us).

I love when people are just like "if you don't believe god why aren't you doing extremely heinous things everyday, how can you have morals" idk bro maybe the thought of "if i do a bad thing, i'll feel bad, or i'll be punished for it" works really well. if i'm gonna be thrown into prison for stealing money, that's a pretty good reason to not do it. then you get people who say stuff like "oh but without the law you'd commit crimes cause nothing is stopping you". Any sort of reward system works as a pseudo-government itself, christianity is a reward system, you do good, you're rewarded, you do bad you get sent to eternal damnation, Sounds a lot like how laws work in our world. what makes the christian bible the right one, why isn't islam right, why isn't mormonism right, every religion says they're the right one, but all say mostly the same thing, just believe what you want but don't belittle and harass others (which if they read the bible i'm pretty sure this is something that's mentioned multiple times, don't be a jerk).
Earlier today on another YT vid, some Christian was saying that "only the BIBLE can be a source of morality", and anyone who doesn't have the bible cannot have morality!
Unbelievably arrogant and condescending... but I just had to ask him this:
Do you think it is moral to FORCE a ra pe victim to MARRY her rapist?

According to this, divine command theory and objective morality muddled with Cartesian dualism are the definitive answer to the purely subjective question of why we treat human life differently from animal life. It is a boiler plate answer to a difficult question that occupies the minds of ethicists who work in drug testing, agriculture, entertainment, the military, and zoological gardens. Even though he claims a lot, he actually gives us no guidelines at all for these ethical dilemmas. He just blathers. His Christianity has no answers that work in the real world.

To your end point no his God doesn’t promote stoning people. That’s the false god people worshipped during the Old Testament Pharisees. then Jesus came and said “let he who without sin cast the first stone” - he’s a Christian so believe that
It depends on which human and which animal.
I'm going to try to save my dog over Jordan Peterson any day
I was thinking the same about my neighbor's hamster and any top brass of the third reich...
The idea that you find it acceptable to have a list of any version of people that you would rather die than a random animals is not a win for your supposed humanity and morality. Animals kill as a response to needing food and to defense of self group like family. When you, a conscious and thinking human, engage in murder value and human life on an exchange rate then you lost the argument by participating at all. There is not a morality in having reasons beyond that of an animal for acting like one. If you need to use your mind to dream up an answer like these but you can't think to say "death is not a sacrifice of value" and stop having the talk then you are just the same in a different flavor. You are the loyal opposition to Christianity when you confine yourself to their moral frameworks. Bet I won't see a surge of Islamic and other religions being picked on the same at all. Food for thought while you fantasized about death and judging people like Christians.

Atheism properly understood is the belief God and gods don't exist.
God belief has alot of implications in stuff like Metaphysics and Ethics, if you reject God belief, it's perfectly reasonable for a theist to ask how you account for things God belief traditionally did.
Especially since that framing of this video is that people leave Christianity because it can't account for certain things
Atheism is to not believe that a god exists. It can include the believe that there is no god, but it's not the same.
"God belief has alot of implications in stuff like Metaphysics and Ethics, if you reject God belief, it's perfectly reasonable for a theist to ask how you account for things God belief traditionally did." -lash
Why are you asserting that those things have anything to do with god? God did it or the bible said so are not answers, but it's generally the only things that theists have.
@@ateriana5116 Yeah it seems that Sound of Science forgets Positive atheism is a thing in order to dunk on this Christian. In any case, even if you want to hold to that weaker version of atheism, it still rejects a God belief and all it entails.
And God has a lot to do with Ethics and Metaphysics, God is literally posited as the foundation for all those things. If you don't understand that then what are you rejecting when you reject theism? It's perfectly reasonable for a theist to wonder how an atheist can account for this
So you couldn't be bothered to understand what atheism is.
Do you believe in unicorns? If no, are you an aunicornist?
Explain how metaphysics and ethics apply to your lack of unicorn belief.
It might be easier if thiests give evidence of any gods before making assumptions about said gods.
The Christian pantheon appears to have millions of gods to fit their specific sect since they can't agree on many specific attributes like a Build-a-god workshop.
@@lash163 An atheist could literally just answer, "I don't know," and be at once both more correct and more intellectually honest than a theist who posits an unproved entity as being that "foundation." If your "foundation" can't even be shown to exist, then your entire worldview is baseless. Start with proving that any god exists, rather than wondering why people who see no evidence for a given notional entity don't believe in it.
You also prove the video's point by attempting to insert your own definition of atheism in your very first sentence, and then claiming that that is the "proper" understanding. It's weird how so many people who use the label reject that definition, if that's the proper definition. It's also weird because your reply shows that you know that what you defined is actually just a subset of atheism, "positive atheism" or "strong atheism." You seem to miss the point that if questions are being asked of "atheists" they should be related to all atheists, not just atheists who happen to collect stamps or whatever other subcategory you choose to misdefine as being "atheism properly understood." Either that or you were being intentionally dishonest with your "atheism properly understood" nonsense.
Atheists don't have to "account" for anything, full stop. Metaphysics are conceptual tools. Humans are a tool-using species. Must all tools be physical objects? Why? And there are DOZENS of moral and ethical systems which do not rely on the supernatural. This line of thinking teeters on presup level "atheists must have something which does exactly what we say god does and in the exact same way and for the exact same reasons (except it isn't our god and we had better be able to prove whatever it is that isn't our god that does these things actually exists) or the cosmos will spiral into instant chaos." Value is subjective, even if a god existed and placed a value on humans it would be that god's subjective value that we would have. Without a god to dictate what he values onto us its us who determine what is important to us, what has worth to us. We often see other humans as more valuable than other animals because we are human. This idea that god values humans is just pure BS as the vast majority of humans are going to go to a helll of some kind or be destroyed by the god that is claimed to value us. But the only humans that these various gods are going to value in the end are the few that are going to kiss their a$$ and be allowed into these claimed heavens.
For example in christianity it doesn't matter how good you are. You could dedicate your life to helping others, you could care cancer, you could end world hunger, god is still going to claim that you are a sinner. That you are guilty of some crime and that you need to be punished with an unending torture unless you beg him to forgive you for failing to be prefect. If you either assert that agnosticism means that you cannot KNOW if a god exist or that you cannot KNOW what a god is... then you cannot believe in a god.
Agnostic isn't a mid-point on belief, it is merely a midpoint on KNOWLEDGE. And knowledge is a subset of belief.
Agnosticism says nothing about a belief in god/gods. It describes knowledge of a god/gods. Two entirely separate answers to two separate questions. From my experience, when a person claims agnosticism, they're really an atheist that just doesn't want to be associated with "atheism", usually due to negative connotations. Im not going to answer the whole video because i have things to do but i will answer one part. Talking about how God killed so many humans because they simply didnt obey him. But he had valid reasons for it. In the case of the flood and when the israelites went and killed entire cities, it was because the people in those places were practicing horrible things and worshipping ancient deities by sacrificing children to them. That is why those places God commanded complete annihalation.
So your god murdered a million babies and children because some of their parents worshipped another god? And you call that a 'valid reason'. That is totally disgusting.
That's not a valid reason AT ALL. Even if they were horrible people who killed their own children (but obviously not all of them), i don't see the improvement made by killing everybody, INCLUDING ALL THE CHILDREN.
