Hello, my fellow critical thinkers. Today I would like talk about a man called John B. Andelin. He is an American medical doctor of sorts, who now makes UA-cam videos in which he mostly tries to debunk evolution. He believes in the myth of 'intelligent design'. Which is remarkable for someone with a university degree. His youtube channel is called Mask Of Science.
Sci-Man-Dan made a video about him the other day, prompting me to have a look at the Mask Of Science channel myself. And mister Andelin belongs to this specific category of men who present themselves as being scientifically educated, but then they have no clue as to what science really is.
Up front I must say that, this guy says so many weird and crazy stuff that I can only address a small portion of it. Having said that, let's listen to him.
The only things religion ever proved was how gullible people can be and the willingness of others to exploit them.
Plus an easy way to own big airplanes.
At the end of Curious George episodes on PBS, there is usually a kindergarten class where the kids explore the principles George encountered in his adventure. In one episode, the children worked with soap bubbles. The soap bubbles were always spherical. It didn't matter what shape the wand was, square, slotted, star-shape, or serrated, the bubble produced was a sphere. Maybe, Dr Andelin was absent that day of kindergarten.
This can actually be explained with maths: the sphere is the optimal shape for a bubble because this is the three-dimensional shape with the lowest surface/volume ratio possible, which maximizes the outer membrane's thickness and minimizes the internal tension from the air inside.
I'm sure Dr Andelin mentioned maths at the beginning of the video...
Every street preacher ive come across says they found Jesus while they were addicted to drugs and alcohol, soooo 🤔
And generally bad people - and of course they have all been atheists, yet don't understand anything scientific - not a pre-requisit, but the case pretty much across the board
Funny bc it's true. You have to be on hard times to find God
Simply a tactic used to make the claimant sound more credible. Flat earthers will tell you how they thought flat earth was nonsense until they looked into it.
@@yvito125 but it's more likely Religion preys on those who are emotionally vulnerable and poor.
I wouldn't be surprised there is a higher correlation of alcohol, firearms and churches the poorer a region is.

Apparently, he does have a MD and is a practicing pathologist in North Dakota. Clearly, being a doctor doesn't mean he knows how to form and articulate an effective philosophical argument. My response to him would be, "Spare me your crackpot theories and go look at cadavers."

If you believe in magic or supernatural beings, then ask yourself, "What would it take to change my belief?"
If nothing in reality can change your belief, then your belief is based on nothing in reality.
If anyone claims to believe in magic or any supernatural beings, then just say two words: "PROVE IT!"
These are the scariest and most dangerous specimens. So sad because of the access and influence he has over other people in general
Look at you! You just popped up in my feed. Cool video. Liked and subscribed. I like my critical thinking and debunking videos with humor. Great work.
'Evolution is mathematically impossible.' Try telling that to Population Geneticists. Population Genetics has some robust mathematics
Exactly: first thing I thought. It’s all mathematics.
Or the global flood. Mathematical impossibility on every level

It's good to be reminded that even people like Kent Hovind, are not in fact, the bottom of the barrel.
no, kh is the bottom of the barrel, due to his overt malice
Actually, it would be much harder to mathematically describe a lumpy rock than a sphere. The sphere can be described with just the density and radius. So does more complex or less complex point to a "designer"?
There's this quote I like about design: "Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away." A sphere is less complicated than a rough, random shape, but is more evidential of design. Organisms tend to be very complicated…
What this Creationist clown doesn't understand is that literally any rock has as low a probability of being the very particular shape it is, as any other rock, and probably lower than a spherical one.
I’m an MD and I can categorically say that there is hardly any maths involved in the basic medical degree. For this fella to try and talk complex formulas to prove or disprove evolution is just plain bonkers!
Math is singular, not plural.
Your response shows that you don't know any math. And so your claim is verified.

Regarding 'round' things. I invite the good doctor to come north to a cold climate and look for 'ice circles'. A phenomenon where small bits of ice on a slow river/ stream bump and grind against each other, resulting in many nearly perfectly circular rings of ice. Just random collisions as they move along, but resulting in something with a high degree of order.
Being an MD does not mean a person has ability in any other field. This man proves it.
Look at Ben Carson, he was apparently a brilliant brain surgeon, but pretty much completely ignorant about everything else
Guess the good doctor never saw concretions either.
As a rock, I agree with this video.
Science is the same all over the world. Religion can already differ on the other side of the village.
The real question is
"Do rocks think clowns prove god?"

there's still a need to apply the heimlich-maneuvre to save somebody's life... is that perfect conscious design?
it doesn't mean that an atheist can't feel good about being alive, or sit in wonder about things that occur in nature...

On the beach where I live, the erosion causes rock to fall from the cliff. Those that in some way end up away from the cliff base, retain their jagged edges, those that stay at the base of the cliff, are pounded into round shapes.
I'm having a really hard time conflating his premise that nature is "always" random with god and everything being planned. Did his god *plan* and *design* that everything should be random? Is there a point to this god if everything is random? How can he tell the difference between god's total randomness and no god at all???
whoops. theist did another pratfall
"Ignorant arrogance seems to be a major attribute of "plebeian" (low) christianity" with little or no understanding of science or truth".
You can make round rocks by randomly tumbling them in a rock tumbler.
So random forces make round rocks.
Apologists never understand probability when they claim that "random" processes can't produce apparent order. The always equate the improbable with the impossible. Most kids have found almost round stones to play marbles with. There are so many, that by the laws of probability there must exist the "perfect" round stone somewhere, if only we looked long enough. Therefore, there is no need for a god. PS: Do kids still play marbles? 🤔
I'd say this guy's rocks are in his own head.
Mask of Science: "Evolution isn't possible because it's mathematically impossible."
Me, "an intellectual": You're right... But not for the reasons you think.
It's not really tied to math like that, genius.
For a moment there I thought the premise was 'Rock Proves God'. Like heck yeah, maybe ROCK DOES prove God, go for it man . . . Hendrix, Zep, Stones, Beatles . . .
But then I realized it was just plain old rocks like in geology class. Oh well . . . .
There is no chance of randomness in nature because everything that exists is natural, has a specific nature or identity, acts according to that identity, and is not capable of acting against its
nature. Therefore, there are no causeless actions. Chance or randomness is really an epistemological concept and not a metaphysical one. It refers to our inability to predict some actions because we don't have enough data. But just because we can't exactly predict something, doesn't mean that it is random. All actions have a cause and the cause is the nature of the thing that acts. When human beings make a choice that is not random either. It's an entity acting according to its nature. Man's nature is the cause, and the ability to make choices is the effect.
And creationism passes all mathematical tests how? Or is it exempt?

7:31 This is actually a very popular disingenuous debate tactic called the gish gallop (I think it also has other names), to vomit a load of nonsensical bullshit in a small time frame, then sit back and watch the opponent disprove only a small portion of it (because making a false statement takes 10 seconds, disproving it takes several minutes), and declare at the end of the debate that any statement that wasn't disproven is valid by default.
Now, now! You know that Jesus spent eternity past sculpting each rock in the universe and placing it careful on each planet. And don’t tell me there wasn’t enough time.

I’ve got a biology degree. I’ve heard so much BS from medical doctors about biological facts it’s not funny .
Drive south from Tuba City, Arizona, and take the first right, so you are heading west. After about 10 miles you begin to see big, round black rocks. They get more and more plentiful the further you drive. After about 25 to 30 miles there is a ridge of black rock, the origin of the round rocks. The ridge is volcanic, and the round rocks are pillow lava which formed when there was a shallow sea that covered the area millions of years ago. All these rocks are round and there was no humans then to shape them. This doctor needs to stick to popping pimples.

'Random' is an extremely important word for creationists. They say 'It's either random or it's God' in the knowledge that this false dichotomy will sound reasonable to a scientifically illiterate audience.
Math is descriptive.
Humans made math.
If 'math' doesn't match reality, then a *_human_* has failed to describe reality.
It's not reality that has 'gone wrong.'
4:22 *"The theory of evolution is based upon empirical evidence resulting from observation and analysis of organisms and their fossils and DNA technology."*

Who could take him seriously? Fellow doesn't even wear a tie.
You'll easily get a ball-shaped stone in nature by throwing the rock into a river.
My pair of rocks were enough to be a part of creation of my children, but that doesn't give me the right to chose how they have to live and think.
It does give me an opportunity to teach them how to use rational thinking and how to work against the lie of any gods or misguided philosophy.

I don't remember who said this, but he defined medicine as, basically, plumbing. No disrespect to doctors (or plumbers).

So everything in nature is random. If I cook an egg it might turn into a mediocre rock ballad or tree jesus. Who knows! Just try to Imagine a universe with pure randomness - would be very strange and good luck with you're science there, buddy. This is such a weird statement, it reminds me of Logicked's video on the guy who believes everything that's ever happening is a brand new brute fact.
Good video, but two things are slightly wrong with the title. “Creationist clown” is redundant, and creationists don’t do any thinking.😂
Mathematics describes reality and, by abstracting reality into the realm of mathematics allows for convenient modeling and prediction. But, mathematics is not enough. It is possible to create perfectly rational and logical mathematical equations that have no bearing on reality.
He literally debunks his own argument while making it 😂
If spherical rocks by natural means are possible but exceedingly rare, that means when you have an uncountabillion number of rocks, you'll probably see a few that were made randomly spherical. The larger the number of items in the sample size, the more likely rarer outcomes become.
Also, just because a thing is rare doesn't mean its impossible and in fact, nimbers aren't how we determine whether the thing happened. That just calculates LIKELIHOOD or CHANCE of it happening vs not. More than that, if it's possible then you can't say that it only exists due to design just because it exists. We have to analyze the thing further to determine whether it was in fact nature va man made because he just acknowledged it could be natural. You need EVIDENCE of design. Rareness is not evidence of design.
If evolution is impossible why do we have to continually update anti -biotics and vaccines to keep up with bacteria and viruses? Doctor.
If god existed, there would be no need to prove his existence because he would be perceived or at the very least be experienced by believers and non believers alike and since that’s clearly not the case it’s safe to say that god’s are man made and not the other way around
The things in the universe are not random on a larger scale at all, they are probabilistic.
The rocks in his head is exactly where his god is,all in his head.
Sorry dude, but I'm a spoon carver and I spend a great amount of time every day evaluating shapes and that rock is not perfectly round. I have found rocks in rivers that are equally "perfectly" round.

I would point out the Bible has testable, verifiable evidence in the form of specific, fulfilled prophecies - in fact, the Bible is about 1/4 prophecy! In addition to the many, many historical examples of fulfilled prophecy, here are just a few that have happened in the past 100ish years.
Israel Scattered and returning to her land:
Deuteronomy 28:64 says, "And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other...". Additionally, Ezekiel 36:19-24 says, "I dispersed them among the nations, and they were scattered through the countries; I judged them according to their conduct and their actions. And wherever they went among the nations they profaned my holy name, for it was said of them, ‘These are the Lord’s people, and yet they had to leave his land.’ I had concern for my holy name, which the people of Israel profaned among the nations where they had gone. “Therefore say to the Israelites, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: It is not for your sake, people of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you have gone. I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the Lord, declares the Sovereign Lord, when I am proved holy through you before their eyes. “‘For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land."
This is quite amazing. God said He would scatter Israel throughout the world for their disbelief and return them back to their land. What other people in the history of mankind has been scattered across the world for hundreds/thousands of years and then returned to their homeland (the very same geographic land) as an identifiable people? This isn't just being moved from one place to another place after being conquered - it is being literally scattered throughout the world. This is unprecedented throughout the history of humankind and yet the Bible said it would happen way before 1948 when Israel was reborn as a nation. In fact, Jews have been returning to Israel from all over the world such as: China, The US, Japan, Russia, India, France, Argentina, Sweden, Spain, Poland, Canada, the UK, South Africa, etc.
The land divided:
We are also told the land will be divided in Joel 3:1-2, which says, "In those days and at that time, when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem, I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will put them on trial for what they did to my inheritance, my people Israel, because they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land". Notice that last part "...and divided up My land". It was foretold that the land would be divided! Logically, if it weren't divided then God couldn't put the nations on trial for dividing it.
Yes, Israel is back in a part of the very same land they used to have just as foretold, but the land has been divided as well (and nations continue dividing and/or trying to divide it to this day). The land was in fact divided by Britain, who was in charge of making this land a place for the Jewish people. Instead much of the land was given to the Arabs/"Palestinians". This was formalized in the United Nations Partition Plan which was adopted by the UN General Assembly On 29 November 1947 Resolution 181. This was written WAY before 1947/1948, yet we now see that the land has been divided by the nations and they keep dividing/trying to divide it to this day. Although this did not actually create the nation of Israel, it divided the ancestral land of the Jews.
The country reborn in 1 day:
What's more, the Bible said Israel would be reborn as a nation in 1 day. Isaiah 66:7-8 says, "Before she goes into labor, she gives birth; before the pains come upon her, she delivers a son. Who has ever heard of such things? Who has ever seen things like this? Can a country be born in a day or a nation be brought forth in a moment? Yet no sooner is Zion in labor than she gives birth to her children." This happened May 14, 1948 when Israel declared itself to be a nation and President Truman (the US being a superpower of the time) formally acknowledged them as such. Contrast this with the founding of the US - they declared themselves to be a nation with the declaration of independence in 1776, but no countries acknowledged them as a nation at that time. In fact, the first country to declare them a nation was Morocco in 1777 and the first major world power of the time to acknowledge them was France in 1778.
Yet, in the case of Israel, Britain's mandate over the land ended at midnight on May 14, 1948 and Israel declared themselves to be a nation and were recognized as a nation in this one day - fulfilling the prophecy with stunning precision!
Let's step back now and think about these prophecies. The Bible makes the claim that the Jewish people would be scattered throughout the entire world and return to the very land they were in as an identifiable people. To put into perspective just how bold this prophecy is, this feat has never happened to any other people throughout the history of humankind. In essence, the Bible predicted something that has never happened throughout human history would happen to a specific people long before it happened, and it came to pass exactly as foretold! As if that wasn't enough, it foretold that this very land would be divided among the nations, which we know also happened in 1947/1948 and beyond. Even more, it foretold that the nation of Israel would be "born" in 1 day - which happened with stunning accuracy on May 14, 1948! There isn't any other religion out there that offers these kinds of specific prophecies that we know with 100% certainty were written well before they happened.
We don't need to simply have blind faith in something - we should have a good reason for what we believe and the Bible provides it! Why not accept the gift of salvation today?
1 Corinthians 15:2-4, "By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,"
John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life".
Additionally, here is a fabulous, short message on what must we do to be saved (only about ten mins). For something with eternal consequences, it makes sense to at least hear it out right? :) ua-cam.com/video/nWEMY-Su20k/v-deo.html
Aren't all countries born in one day?
One day they weren't a country, the next day they are.
(America would be a good example)
@@drewdrake9130 Thanks for the reply! America would actually be a good country to contrast with Israel. Allow me to explain. On May 14, 1948 Israel declared themselves to be a nation and President Truman (the US being a superpower of the time) formally acknowledged them as such on that very same day. If we contrast this with the founding of America - they declared themselves to be a nation with the declaration of independence in 1776, but no countries acknowledged them as a nation at that time.
