In case we've never met: we are Derrick and Kara Abbey. We are videographers and photographers - creating content revolving around one of our favorite pastimes: riding roller coasters.
And the best part about this hobby of ours? We can bring our kids along for the ride and enjoy amusement parks as a family.

Ride with Us! Highlights from Our 2023 Roller Coaster and Amusement Park Adventures
2023 was the most INCREDIBLE year for our family.
We visited a total of 19 different amusement parks and 5 water parks across 9 different states. We took our children on an airplane for the first time ever (spoiler alert: they LOVED it!) and we can now check the state of "Arizona" off our list of newly visited states.
I will never take for granted the adventures we go on as a family. To think that once upon a time, this all started with Derrick and I meeting - and one of his first questions to me being: "Do you like roller coasters?"
And here we are 16+ years later, traveling the country to ride those roller coasters & creating content for @XscreamThrills.
We travel more than your average "Joe", so I also have to say how immensely thankful I am for a brilliant husband, who manages our travels like it's his job (well, I guess it kind of is.) He is so well-researched in how to save us money, how to utilize credit card points to book us free hotel rooms, and is always keeping an eye on annual passes at parks to get us the very best deals for our upcoming travels. We literally would not be able to do what we do without his knowledge and expertise! Traveling is EXPENSIVE - yet we've learned so much about how to save money & travel within our household budget. (We NEVER go into debt on our adventures!)
Just putting this highlight film together filled my heart with so much gratitude that we can take our kids and have so much FUN as a family. We truly have the best times and we love every moment that we spend TOGETHER.
If you'd like to see the previous years' highlight films, they are here:

Is this the next Napoleon Dynamite? Lol 😂
I’d love to know what type of wig that is ❤
Honestly don’t know steel vengeance might be a crazier ride and it has more versions but I don’t know what that has to do with anything just because there’s more inversions on steel vengeance why does that make it have to be taller height requirement

Great job ki is my home park going there tomorrow
Awesome! Never been to Knott's Berry Farm. Probably planning one soon. Very nice. Thanks for sharing. :)
Lol😂😂
Do you have any Anna Dresses or Elsa Dresses yet?
People here in 2024 👇
I got wet,but the water was dirty 😢
Are you allowed to film on the rides?
No, Kennywood has a strict no filming policy :(
It’s 2 times longer it has 2 times more inversions and over 2 times more airtime why wouldn’t the height requirement be taller?🤷♂️
No after what happened at adventureland with raging rapids
I always loved C&C. I grew up going to Lagoon in Utah, but spent many days here. It was always nice to have a cool place to go when it was so hot like the arcade and still have more fun. It was also a good introduction for my girls as we prepared for a trip to Disneyland. Lagoon was a good second step. They did great even going on Guardians and the Incredicoaster which they definitely would not have if they didn’t have all the priming. 😋
Happy birthday
Lol
Yeah, there's a reason why Castles n Coasters doesn't get much love anymore. Minus the mini golf. The mini golf slaps.
I enjoyed your video. I would love to have seen the POV's.
Thank you! My husband posted the POV's within his vlog - here! ua-cam.com/video/HZlKy0yl92M/v-deo.htmlsi=cvtKbpg64wGpkJqq (Timestamp 1:30 for the Desert Storm POV and timestamp 2:55 for the Patriot POV)
I enjoy castles n coasters. It's almost never too crowded, and if you ride every ride, it works out to 5.00 a ride. Which honesty is not that bad. If you break down what they rode, it comes to around 8.00 a ride. Ride more rides to get a better value. You can walk around the entire park without having to pay. You only need to pay if you are riding the rides. Which means that unlike bigger parks, you can bring that family member who likes to watch and hang out but doesn't like to ride.
That's a great point - that family members who don't want to ride, don't have to pay anything to walk around the park! That's definitely a nice perk! (I just wish they had more of a "ticketing" style system like Knoebels in Pennsylvania where you can pay for an unlimited, all-day pass OR you can pay for JUST the rides you want to ride - that would be the best of both worlds!)
OMG THIS HAPPENED TO ME TOO so I wanted to get on the top thrill this season and then I figured out at the park that they are shutting it down because of the cart and something about the cart moving so they are shutting it down and I’m guessing it’s not going to be open till 2025 😢😢
It’s the price and selective hours that made me not visit. And I visit phx and flg multiple times a year.
Yeah - it was a one-and-done visit for us, but we couldn't pass it up on our last trip to Phoenix!
That’s so cool
Top Thrill 2?
Thanks for covering our Arizona thrill park!! 😅 Seriously though, growing up in Arizona, we used to always just go to SoCal for the coaster fix.
I can definitely see that! We actually carved out a few days to visit SoCal during our trip to Arizona, just so we could ride some more coasters!
I'm shocked it's still open.
Even though the lines weren't long, there were A LOT of people in the park! Tons of people having picnics and hanging out!
You can now see why us AZ enthusiasts are so excited for Mattel 🤣😂🤣 Hoping for coasters that are worth rhe price to go and reride more than once in your life 😂😂
YES - we have been watching the Mattel Adventure Park's construction with great anticipation! Fingers crossed it opens soon!
@@AdventuringAbbeys hopefully our next construction update will be out in a few weeks (assuming more stuff has happened while we have been out on our Midwest coaster trip haha)
I have a button from the premier of iron gwazi at bg tampa 😊
JEALOUS- I think it’s bc I worked at Disney & we handed buttons out like candy.. so I love when other parks hand out buttons now too!
A nice video of my home park. I really liked the comment about the Steel Curtain being on the same cup as obsolete or gone rides! 😆
Hopefully sooner, rather than later, Steel Curtain comes back! Until then, at least we have Phantom!
I rode the phantom revenge for the first time last year during August 1st 2023 and it was fun i don't know why I used to be so afraid of it when I was little and when I was in highschool
It’s an intimidating ride!! It’s one of the best tho- so glad you worked up the courage to ride! 💕
I don’t think kiddie coasters have loops. 😂
HAHA I guess you’re right 🤣😂
So roman rapids is still open!?
This was recorded in 2023, I don’t think it’s opened for the 2024 season yet 🤔
Hi i am a fan of your video what day will you go back to kennywood
I’m not sure!! We live nearby, so we visit the park pretty regularly & spontaneously!
@@AdventuringAbbeys okay how are you doing today I'm 14 I really like to see you guys I don't really talk that much?
What reopens Must Re close 😂😂😂
LOL 😂🤣😂🤣
😏
That's a cool Whip ride.
Wow I’m surprised to see someone way younger than me eager to go on one of the scariest rides in the park. I was so scared but it ended up being so much fun! ❤
She’s been riding Phantom for 3 years!! She LOVES that ride- it’s one of her favorite coasters!!
Wish king's Island would bring this ride back along with cuddle up
1. Holy cow I feel relieved I’m not the only one to ramble about gear in vlogs. 2. I love that they changed that little gift shop into the official ride shop.
1. LOL I normally don't bring up my gear at all, but since this vlog was very much centered around me photographing the ride, I figured I would mention it (plus, I feel like my 28-70 got more comments from other park guests than my 70-200 does!) 2. that little gift shop was PACKED - it was like a shop on Main Street at Magic Kingdom 30 minutes after the park closes. The people pouring in and out of that shop carrying big bags of merch was incredible!! I didn't even peek in because it was so crowded! (Next time I will though - I need my ornament for the year!)
Having worked for Disney Attractions for 9 years I always enjoy the behind the scenes activities
Omigoodness! What Disney attractions have you worked on? I did the College Program back in 2009 & worked in merchandise in the Emporium on Main Street in Magic Kingdom and then transferred into PhotoPass at the waterparks. It was the most incredible experience EVER!
@@AdventuringAbbeys I worked Future World at EPCOT. Dec. 84 to Jan. 95. I worked Spaceship Earth, Futurecom, Backstage Magic, Epcot Poll, Daredevil Circus, Universe of Energy, Wonders of Life, Journey into Imagination, and Living Seas.

Would you ride this roller coaster?
Karen alert 😂😂😂😂😂
Look the world is soft enough as it is it's okay The kids aren't going to break
this is true - my kids don't seem to mind the roughness at all - but when they want ME to ride with them - that's a whole other story!
Complaining at disney world in a video is hilarious.
This is actually Dorney Park in Allentown, PA - the line for The Tomorrowland Speedway at Magic Kingdom moves MUCH faster!
R yall brothers and sisters cus ur son looks inbred😭💀👍🏼
wholesome family time :)
How do you get the text ? App?
Yes! CapCut! It's free & SUPER easy to add captions!
Thanks for giving people rant content
I am from the Philadelphia, PA area and only got to visit Kennywood once. It is a nice regional park that the Pittsburgh area can be proud to have. They have a good mix of both old and new rides. Too bad about the long lines but that is normal for most parks that charge just charge you to get in. Parks like Kenobles that operate on both one price and tickets have an incentive to keep their lines moving. The more ticket riders get on the more revenue the park generates. The best time to go to one price parks is on weekdays before most schools are out so there are less crowds.
Kennywood is a lovely park! We usually stay away when we know the park is super busy, but we couldn't miss a beautiful, sun-shiny, opening day! Knoebels is awesome - I wish Idlewild (Kennywood's sister park in Ligonier, PA) would move to a "no admission, buy tickets to ride" model!
I feel for you guys. Went to Carowinds last July with my family for 3 days from Indiana just to ride Fury & got shut out 😢
UGH that's the worst! We actually know a few people who traveled down to Carowinds for Fury last summer and it was down due to the crack in the ride's structure :(
126 years old and they still can't make a line move quickly. No ty
