Early Morning Hike Checking Swamp Cameras 2024
I've been letting the trail cams sit for a month or more before collecting the SD cards and this AM seemed like a nice morning to check to see what the local wildlife was doing in the Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge here on the Florida Nature Coast.

Wes, I love your videos in general, but really love the "nail biters" like this one. Numerous times I've found myself yelling at the screen watching these videos. You are rare among us as you fish the Chaz like me, but without a trolling motor. No matter what fish you've got on, you are basically the victim of whatever drift that's going on. And as you know, in those back Creeks when the tidal current is hauling buttocks like that, the drift can be crazy chaotic. Thanks for another great nail biter video!!!

LSJ...Thanks!! When it comes to the skinny water I'm all about weight and stealth......Most of the time I couldn't run an electric motor.....All I can feel and hear is bump and prop gurgle.....People don't realize that fish are sensitive to noise and movement.....Especially Redfish!! When I fail to ignore the inside tides the bump and run because of the current is a PITA not to mention I have to constantly have to move from the bow or stern and vis-versa plus I haven't a clue how any times I've needed a pole saw or had to wade the Bush League to get one of these critters to the boat.....I know it's all interesting and funny when I think about this area.....Enjoyed the comment.....Have a great weekend!!

@@WesLovelace You are exactly right. I did a hitchhiker's guide video on Inshore fishing with the GPS spot lock trolling motor. It's 100% focused on stealth. Every time I make a mistake that leads to cavitation or the prop touching bottom, I know that I've spooked every fish for 100 yd. You absolutely have to be extraordinarily careful.

Kinda curious how it got there in the first place. Maybe with a king tide they can get it out without damaging the reef area.

Thanks Icy!! This yacht is 60 miles north of Clearwater.....Debby could have moved it that far but FWC was aware of the location before it moved an additional 8 miles to the north to just offshore of the Refuge......FWC was interested if the fuel system had been breached and I could not see any signs of a leak in my 3 rotations of the craft!! I was up there on a 3.4 high ....I'm not sure a flotation collar would get this 20 ton vessel off the bottom!!

I was asked about a fuel spill and I responded that I did not see any but it will be investigated......This vessel was seen anchored off Bayport with no people on board......FWC was not aware that the vessel was hard aground 8 miles farther North than it's original location.....Something out of the ordinary......I got my first thumbs down on this video.......Did I strike a nerve of the owner......If this vessel breaks apart and the environment is compromised in a Federal Refuge.....Watch the CRAP hit the fan!!

Wow. It is insanely shallow around Crawl when you get inside Chassahowitzka Channel. I ran off Bayport to A.H. Richardson two weeks ago and that exact vessel was on anchor well off Beacon Rock. Must have lost anchor and drifted North.

@@thomasmurphy1907 We were there for a morning of Spearfishing, but the initial winds from T.S. Debbie has started and it was really sloppy. There was a layer of "whale snot" in the first two-three feet, so we could not see fish from the surface. We did see one nice Gag in a culvert, which is what we were there to spy on. In the end we returned inshore pretty quickly as the seas were continuing to build. I did get my very first Chassahowitzka Tarpon that day, so it wasn't all bad. ua-cam.com/users/shortsRmvjFTy3LkE

Wes, I'm wondering if a retrieving crew could surround the yacht with a pontoon-like floating deck that would slightly lift the yacht off the reef then pull it with a flat bottom boat. I have no clue how something is removed from such a shallow water area. No matter what, it's going to take some time and money to make it happen. I'm sure the game & wildlife patrol will be involve all the way through the process. Man, that's going to be a tough rescue mission. A big boat in skinny waters. Have a fine weekend, Wes.
