Thanks Ryan!! They either head for the mangroves or manage to get either your line or leader in those razor sharp gill plates....It's always an adventure in the back country!!
Thanks Jeff!! I was just about to the point of getting into the salt and doing some hand to finn contact.....LOL....I know I nearly lost my leader and about 5 ft. of my line to abrasion....It was a relief to get those grips in the mouth of that Linesider!!
That big old snook definitely put of a good fight. Great that you finally won the battle and retrieved your gear. I enjoyed in full to the end. Thank you, my friend.
Thanks Martin!! If I can keep them out of the bushes and not get my line or leader in those razor gill plates I have a pretty good chance of getting some good footage!!
Thanks Yuriy!! You caught his big brother....It's gotten so hot here( water temp @ 87 degreez the bite is a real struggle so I'm going back to Sunrise and Sunset bites!!
Thanks Rande!! They are strong and smart and on lite tackle they can be a hand full in all these mangroves.....They are right at home being ambush predators in the mangroves!!
Thanks Dan-O!! Kinda touch and go for a few minutes.....I was about to get in the water to yank the Linesider out of the bushes....LOL.....Have a great weekend!!
@WesLovelace you too brother! Keep slaying em!! BTW think I hooked a big drum in the Potomac on Monday, light tackle couldn't turn him. The one that got away 😂
Thanks Wayn!! I thought I might have to wade into the mangroves to retrieve this bushmaster.....I just got reel lucky on this hook up.....Have a great weekend!!
Thanks JJ!! This species is known for seeking cover when hooked....But my light tackle sometimes makes it hard to turn a Snook unless you're in open water....I got lucky this time.....LOL!!
Thanks Dug!! They are strong critters but it's the aerials that always give me the thrill.....They certainly know to head for cover and they are very good at taking your plastic by getting in the bushes or cutting you off with their razor sharp gill plates!!
Thanks Dave!! I was just about to take a swim when I finally figured out just what that critter was hung on.....My leader and line where pretty tore up after this tussle.....LOL!!
Thanks!! I was just about to get into the water and wade thru all the entanglement because it's very rare to retrieve any fish once it gets into all this vegetation!!
Thanks BIGD!! They are really an Apex Predator in those Mangroves.....I was lucky this time to work things out because I was about to take a swim and have a reel discussion with this high flying Snookster.....LOL!!
Thanks Rob!! I kept asking myself the same question....I didn't have to get in the water so I figure a draw was the best I could do to salvage my dignity and my Mirrodine.....LOL!!
TOTWF.....Thanks!! I was about to go wade fishin'....I just couldn't risk breaking off with the light tackle....My 10 lb. reel line had about 4 ft. of frey and the 30 lb. leader was all chewed up by the Snook....For once I got my Mirrodine back and I got a tale to tell!!
The lowest I go on my braid is 20lb, you living on the wild side with 10lb lol. That was for sure an epic battle, most of the time it ends the other way.
Thanks Marc!! I was about one cuss word from swimming over to the bushes and punching that critter in the nose....LOL....They are reel tough customers when they head for the mangroves!!
That was quite a fight with Mr Snook . They love to try and get in that grass and rocks huh? Nice catch. Have a nice weekend Wes!
