Thanks Rob!! I don't know if it floated away in the last Hurricane or they got in way to close in the shallow area trying to make it to the river.....It could certainly take a while and distance to get that big boat afloat!!
Wow. It is insanely shallow around Crawl when you get inside Chassahowitzka Channel. I ran off Bayport to A.H. Richardson two weeks ago and that exact vessel was on anchor well off Beacon Rock. Must have lost anchor and drifted North.
@@thomasmurphy1907 We were there for a morning of Spearfishing, but the initial winds from T.S. Debbie has started and it was really sloppy. There was a layer of "whale snot" in the first two-three feet, so we could not see fish from the surface. We did see one nice Gag in a culvert, which is what we were there to spy on. if anyone was wondering Florida does not have vessel salvage rights laws, so claiming ownership of an abandoned boat is considered theft under Florida law. However, there is a way to claim the vessel and become the legal owner by reporting it to a law enforcement agency and paying the fees. Florida's maritime law covers legal principles and procedures related to salvage operations, vessel arrests, maritime liens, and other admiralty disputes.
Thanks!! I reported the vessel to FWC and was aware of the salvage laws.....This grounding was not worth the cost especially with the possible environmental problems.....After Hurricane Helene the vessel disappeared somewhere up the coast!!
Hurricane casualty or abandoned? We get a lot of abandoned boats in our area, people just put them on a short anchor and let them float into shallow water. I couldn’t see if it had numbers on it, which are usually removed, but it still had equipment on it.
Thanks J!! I think it's bin abandoned.....No BIN pretty bad list to port.....This big girl is not going anywhere.....It really sticks out in this skinny water!!
My first impression was that it broke loose too, but on the other hand, who put out the anchor??? Not like somebody from Clearwater would have had the wherewithal to come up and anchor it.
Thanks Mark!! Something I noticed was the lack of a Boat Identification Number.....It's definitely a mystery and from what I could see the yacht was in disrepair!!
Thanks Nathan!! This was at high tide and the water is only 5 ft. deep in that area....If the wrong people find it there might be nothing left to salvage......I noticed that there was no Boat Identification Number attached!!
Thanks Marc!! First time I had seen it.....I talked to FWC and they knew it was off Bayport but wasn't aware it was now grounded in the location it is now......It's reel skinny in that lccation!!
Thanks Icy!! This yacht is 60 miles north of Clearwater.....Debby could have moved it that far but FWC was aware of the location before it moved an additional 8 miles to the north to just offshore of the Refuge......FWC was interested if the fuel system had been breached and I could not see any signs of a leak in my 3 rotations of the craft!! I was up there on a 3.4 high ....I'm not sure a flotation collar would get this 20 ton vessel off the bottom!!
Thanks Martin!! When I ran into Haulover I could see that critter so I knew it wasn't a small vessel .....Someone 's going to have some explaining to do!!
Wes, I'm wondering if a retrieving crew could surround the yacht with a pontoon-like floating deck that would slightly lift the yacht off the reef then pull it with a flat bottom boat. I have no clue how something is removed from such a shallow water area. No matter what, it's going to take some time and money to make it happen. I'm sure the game & wildlife patrol will be involve all the way through the process. Man, that's going to be a tough rescue mission. A big boat in skinny waters. Have a fine weekend, Wes. Thanks Don!! This is a hard ground....In less than 6 ft. of water and that port side list will be hard to raise even at an extreme high tide even with a floatation skirt!!
@@houndsmanone4563 Thanks Don!! FWC was aware of this vessel for whatever reason when it was anchored off Bayport about 10 or so miles but they were not aware that it had made it's way north another 8 miles into this shallow water.....They're concern was the leakage of fuel into the environment which I did not see!!😎
This looks almost identical (at least from a distance) to a large motor yacht that is beached and abandoned in the lower keys west of the seven mile bridge. The dinghy was gone and the davit swung out. It was still there as of about 3 weeks ago when I was last in the area keeled over in a similar manner in shallow water.
Thanks Joey!! With my house damage since Helene I haven't checked to see if the yacht is still up in the Refuge.....with the tidal surge we had the critter has probably moved north of the original location.....Appreciate the interest!!
Thanks Vincent!! I originally saw this beast from 2 miles away so I could tell this was a big critter.....This critter isn't coming off the bottom anytime soon!!
Thanks Wayn!! It's not in good place to be grounded because of the shallow water and hard lime rock bottom even at high tide which was when i recorded this clip!!
Thanks Henri!! My first time seeing anything that big grounded in 6 ft. of water.....There was no BIN so there's no telling what the history might be!!
Yeah, it looks like somebody was painting one side of her trying to cover up something. Nobody was around it better be careful. You never know what you’re gonna come up on. Be safe. It looks like the anchor was out though.
Thanks Rande!! No one seems to know if it's stolen or who owns it.....If the boat was leaking fuel the state might get involved......Getting this big boy off the bottom may be very difficult.....I reported it......Let someone else worry about it!!

An interesting tour showing us this abandoned grounded yacht. I enjoyed in full to the end. Thank you, my friend.
