I regretted not documenting all of the progress we made with the landscaping and yard at our old house, and I was not going to make that mistake again with our new house. We bought a nice little house on a large lot, unfortunately the property was/is in absolute disarray. I figured, if I was going to document all of the progress for this house, I may as well share it with whoever else may find it interesting. It's going to be my intent to provide as much value as possible; however, the plan and goal for the channel has always and will likely always be to just follow along on a journey of taking an awful property and making it as beautiful as I can. Welcome to Our Lawn.
2024 Year In Review
I decided to do the year in review video a bit differently this year. What other way than to do a little golf vlog to talk about all of the things that happened in 2024. Thanks for watching.

Sand Top Dressing a Putting Green
Переглядів 1,6 тис.3 місяці тому
I try my best to consistently top dress my green to maintain surface composition and playability. I fight a lot of worm castings and other sediment running from higher up on my property that tends to dilute the sand cap and continuing to do regular top dressing helps to integrate that sediment with the sand cap. In this video I walk through my process and how I use the tools at my disposal.

It's that time of year again where cool season starts to emerge from dormancy. Temperatures decrease, usually the rain comes back, and it's time to get back out on the lawn and get after it. This video walks through 3 scenarios you may be experiencing and what I believe you should do and how you should make choices. First is the neglected lawn -Get back to watering and mowing regularly. -Fertil...
First Impressions of the Sunseeker Orion X7

I have been thinking a long time about converting the main parts of my yard to a robot lawn mower to be able to focus my time on applications and the practice facility. After watching a lot of content around multiple mowers and joining a few facebook groups, I arrived at the Sunseeker Orion X7. In this video I talk through my first impressions of the mower, the basic feature set I'm using, the ...
Everything Went Wrong

This year was one in which everything I tried to do ended up not working. For the vast majority of the year I wasn't happy with how my front or back yard were working and the fact that my seeding projects on the green also failed. Just a frustrating year which was then capped off with the worst disease issue I've ever had on the practice facility. However, although it all went wrong, there are ...
Using the Pro Plugger to Spread Bentgrass
Переглядів 9545 місяців тому
I have a number of spots that seem to die out to varying degrees every year. This year, I'm testing out how effective and quickly plugging the bentgrass into these areas helps with the grass to spread throughout the fairway. If this ends up being effective, it will be something I do quite a bit of going into the future.
Renovating the Putting Green Expansion
Переглядів 1,7 тис.6 місяців тому
Last year I doubled the size of my putting green by just scalping down the grass that was already there. As a result, the old, existing grass really struggled in relation to the bentgrass that I have seeded. It was time to top dress the green and, with that, I decided it would be a great time to overseed into that area of the green. There were some struggles along the way including it getting w...
The 2 Most Important Applications for DIY Putting Greens

I've still been active in the lawn as best as I can, but it won't stop raining. I have been maintaining the practice facility to the best of my ability and it is starting too come along. The rest of the lawn is hanging in there. More to come as we make our way through the season.
How Hard is Maintaining a Backyard Putting Green??
Переглядів 1,4 тис.8 місяців тому
In this video I round out a series of videos I've been making over the last few years to help you understand what is required and if you can take on the responsibility of maintaining your own back yard putting green. Spoiler, it isn't really all that much time. If you maintain a 1000 square foot putting green, it's really only going to take you, on average, about an hour per week. In my opinion...
First Mow on the Back Yard Putting Green
Переглядів 8698 місяців тому
It's a simple video, but you all know we gotta get a video for the first mow on the putting green every year. And, this is that video. I'm very excited to be back after a shaky, ACL recovery ridden season. Think we can get the practice facility absolutely mint this year.
Getting the Lawn Ready for the Season

It's finally time and I'm back. As I mentioned in the spring lawn care video, I won't be doing much of anything in terms of applications for quite a while other than on the practice facility. With that, it was time to clean up around the property throughout the month of April.
Everything You MUST DO In SPRING For a Beautiful Lawn

It's spring time and our lawns are just starting to come out of dormancy. In this video I talk about everything that you must do in the spring to have a nice yard. Yes, that title is clickbait because there is absolutely nothing that you have to do in your lawn in the spring to have it look nice come May and June. I wanted to walk through what I've done so far for my DIY home golf simulator. I can't speak highly enough about having this available to me in terms of how pleased I am with the money I've spent. your little video tutorial help me out today with a issue we been having with our dewalt weed eater for past few years
Thank you !!!
Shout out to the music... You jamming
I over seeded with KGB this fall and also did a complete reseed in 2022. It does take a long time to germinate so I would tell anyone to start in mid August. The good news is is once the spring comes and it starts to come alive just fertilize monthly , water, and mow( keep those blades sharpened) and you’ll have the best lawn on the block
Exactly.
I remember watching a neighbor blow against the wind almost the whole time 🤣 it was entertaining to watch. My dad went out and gave him a hand afterwords. Gave him a crash course on physics hahahaha
Hi, are you interested in reviewing the Smart Irrigation Controller next spring? We are looking for professional lawn enthusiasts to try it out and give real experience and feedback
Mine does the same thing but it's not the flame sensor. And you don't wanna use a scratch pad making scratches will cause it to dirty faster
I like to start on the side of the driveway the wind is coming from so I can blow it with the wind (and not in my face!) Of we only get 2" of snow, I will just install my homemade snow blade on the front of the blower and wing it into a wind row and blow that away once I pile it a foot high or so.
Ooo I like that wind row idea
Thank you. I've learned in my life that nothing is obvious to absolutely everyone on this planet. Many many many different types of people & minds out there.
Hello, is there an opportunity to collaborate on a smart irrigation controller?
Thank you so much, sir. Your video was great!
Looks fantastic. How do you maintain it at such a low height of cut when the worm casts start to appear? Usually these casts get smeared killing off the grass in that small area. Is it the regular top dressing of sand which deters the worms from surfacing or do you just not get many coming up in your yard anyway? Here in the UK they start to appear in autumn time and usually that spells the end of a nice lawn until they disappear in the spring/summer time the following year.
I use a couple different products that limit worm population that I would imagine would not be available to you.
I can’t wait for your Bryson hole in one over your house challenge update hahahaha!
Thought about it. Already got balls from my front yard. Ash trees saved a skull from hitting my neighbors house and haven't done it since.
Jason, you are a genius 👏 thank you SO MUCH for that brilliant idea 💡this is exactly what I need for my garden without hiring anybody else. Again: thank you!
Happy to help.
Ty ty ty. Saved me a trip to the mower shop. Legend
I wonder if there is a way to treat the roots or trunk? The spray is little messy😢
Certainly possible. I don't know what that is, but likely exists.
Subscribed when I saw your "trust the process" video on Kentucky Bluegrass because I needed some of that myself this year 😂 I just seeded my yard with KBG but it got hit hard by fungus, not sure what all recovers. I hope for the best and will opt for fungicide and pre emergent next spring rather than seed. Any advice on avoiding fungus with baby kbg?
Next year I'm doing azoxy and prop in may and June and then armada July through October. I also have mefanoxem if dollar spot hits me hard again to add in.
Backyard is looking great! How did you get rid of your worm casting issues? I have that in areas of my green this fall
3336F and Carbaryl. Doesn't eliminate the problem entirely, but makes a big difference. Watered in heavily after application.
Scrambling percentage is 0!! 😅
What are the three things if you could pick, regardless of time, money or other factors, that will get a bentgrass putting green the thickest in lets say the first 9 months of next year. For reference, mine is about 3 years old, Minnesota climate (twin cities area), just appears thin in certain spots, never really filling in completely. Thanks, love the channel.
My first thought would be to go a pound of N in May and June, probably split into 4 or 8 apps depending on what you can do. Then water and mow as frequently as possible. Raising height of cut can also help fill in. What do you seem to be fighting that it won't fill in? Is it dying off each summer or just never filling in?
@ consistency mowing. I have two kids in summer travel sports so it’ had been tough. I’m committed to mowing minimum four times a week next year. This year was maybe 5 a month. It doesn’t seem to ever die off just never fills in.
Gotcha. UA-cam comments not the most efficient form of communication. Shoot me a message on FB or IG and I'll be happy to help with a plan. For reference, I probably mowed twice a week at most this year.
Hello, has your irrigation season ended? If possible, I would like to communicate with you about the cooperation of a smart irrigation controller next spring. Are you interested?
Thank you so much!
What about nature wasps birds eating pine insects?
You'd be looking for an insecticide that targets the pests you have.
May need to adjust the reel to bed knife. There are two screws above the reel.
It’s November 5 is it too late to spray the weeds?also can I use the bottle that’s already to hook up to hose ? Thanks
If it's a bottle meant to be connected to the hose, then yes that's how you should use it. You want everything to be growing actively, so unless you're down south, I'd say wait until next May/June.
@ thanks
🎉Awesome! thank you!! we have heat now
So awesome! When I first put in a garage golf sim, I was able to play 127 rounds of golf in the winter. So fun! My setup was: - Skytrak ($1900) - Archery net ($150) - iPad (already owned) - Golf mat ($400)
Hell yea. That's awesome.
Did it help?!!! I'm struggling with this issue with my pine tree 😢
Yes. Over a couple years. But I did notice a difference.
Jason, glad that your knee is strong enough for this.
Thank you. Has been for a while now. Fully recovered and full strength.
Hey man, last video I saw from you the green was really in bad shape. Looks amazing now, great work man. Fall weather definitely helped mine. Had to increase fence height to keep the deer out. But now I have a mole or something digging these circular holes like 4-5” deep. Every. Day. Haven’t figured that one out yet. All the best man, enjoy your content and it’s helped me a great deal. Thanks again!
Excellent and thank you. Yea, little rain, watering, fert, and disease under control and she comes back. I have cranes digging little holes right now. And maybe squirrels. But, just part of the process.
@@JasonSeiberlichwhat type of grass is on the fringe and beneath your trees in the shade.
Cool season salad. Mostly bent, ff and some kbg i believe. I do have sections of the fairway I've renovated to 100% bent, but not all of it.
How large a green is it? I think you and I are essentially in the same part of the world; I also struggle with worm casts. I am unclear what kind of grass you're using on the putting green. Does it just die every year? Do you have to worry about it spreading into your lawn?
There is a lot to unpack here, but I'll try to be as succinct as I can. I'm in the Milwaukee area. It is predominantly bentgrass. It doesn't die inherently, but being cut very short makes the margin for error much smaller combined with bentgrasses susceptibility to diseases like pythium and dollar spot. Dollar spot is what I lost a lot of the green and fairway to this year. I also struggle to water effectively as I don't have irrigation and have a ton of evening activities that don't allow me to water. I don't worry about it spreading as there are some selective herbicides to remove it.
@@JasonSeiberlich Thanks; yep, same part of the world. You didn't mention how large the green is; I'm sitting on 1/3 of an acre, wondering what area I would need to make for a good project. I recommend checking out 50lb. kiln dried bags of mason sand from Menards. The sand is bone dry, and extremely uniform. The bags are super convenient and can be stored outside. I know USGA sand is special, but I can't imagine anyone could ever tell the difference.
@hatpeach1 sand selection is mostly for particle size to ensure appropriate drainage and resisting compaction. But, yes, mason sand is usually fine. Often just too high percent of smaller particles that can pack together. My green is just under 1000 square feet and the whole area is around 7000 square feet.
I use same mix I used for the root zone mix to top dress with. It’s 90/10 Dakota peat mix from my local sod farm that supplies all the local golf courses. I had read somewhere (I think perhaps in a USGA article on the topic) that if you can, best bet is to use same rootzone mix to topdress with. I built to USGA specs so I have 12” of rootzone. Green is approx 1650 sf or so. Maybe tad larger.
@KA-dm9lm that is correct. I just have a sand cap on native soil, so that's why I'm all sand.
Hello, have you used smart irrigation controllers? I noticed that your account content is very good, I would like to invite you to try our ImoLaza smart irrigation controller, is now the right time?
Mower now does not mow until it reaches the zone where it will cut. Customer service as you said is great and any remaining bugs seem to get fixed promptly. Good video. I have had my Orion Plus 4 months and I have seen excellent progress with bugs. Very few now.
Curious about an update as you mentioned ... after some weeks experience...
Never got to it this fall. Will do that in the spring when I set it back up. Short version is it's amazing.
@@michaelpammer3796 per a technician I have been in contact with a major firmware update coming in 2025 but later in the year.
Well I had really nice Bermuda grass, last few months weed started spreading so I used weed killer, few days later all the grass burned with the weed. Cultivated and removed all the grass, removed 2 inches from the soil and added new soil, and got new grass, few days after and now I have weed growing all over the place. I was actually gonna remove and re-do everything tomorrow, but I guess I'm gonna wait until the lawn establish and clean it (without weed killer this time) Thanks
What weed killer did you use and at what rate?

@@JasonSeiberlich thank you good sir
Thank you !! That helped out a lot
When you seeded, did you cut out any existing turf or did you overseed?
Just overseeded. Used the height of cut to eliminate any of the grasses i didn't want.
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
`Question -- Is it necessary to spray and kill the existing grass or weeds if you use a plow ? --- Wouldn't plowing be sufficient without spraying ? -- Thanks for your video.
You would still have all of that root mass that may be able to regrow. But, I wouldn't call it necessary by any stretch if you were going to do it. Ideally you'd plow, water for a week or 2 and kill whatever grows, then seed.
@@JasonSeiberlich OK--- Thanks for the response and info.
@@JasonSeiberlich I guess I was also wondering if the herbicide down in the ground could also keep new grass seed from growing. However your lawn looked terrific !
@jackdraper2849 certain herbicides can for various periods of time. Glyphosate does not.
@@JasonSeiberlich OK-- Thanks again for the info.
Looks great as always. Thanks for the tips
Thank you.
So many of lawn care guys have kids and a dog and expect to have a nice back yard and its not happening back there and will work on it forever. Front yard yes! Keep going...
Fortunate my dogs decide to pee in the same spot every time and don't really tear it up. But, yes, back yard is to he nice enough to be soft and usable. Not a show piece.
My lawn is fine. Watching for you haha. You didn't really address the fungus you had earlier in this one. Looks like it bounced back.
