Hi Jason, I really appreciate your more conservative approach to lawn care. I've become deaf to all the "programs" and "regimens" that are being "sold" as quick solutions. I would add "patience" as a secondary tool to your eyes.
You could try one of those water filled rollers. But the biggest aspect is getting it cut short enough. Greensmower can do that and also serves to some degree to roll as well.
