@@CARMELOGUARRASI thank you! 👍
Nicely done. Who ever you are lol. First video I've seen of yours. Those Grand Haulers make the tankers look so short. I've only one truck a MAN TGX with a half built 3 axle flatbed. Watching the truck run at the end. It's a shame it's all remote apart from having to plug the lights in, which I didn't want. I'm going to install the same electric legs, but im going wireless on the trailer lights. As I already had a tamiya MFC-01 in the truck I found a Bluetooth module to connect. OB1 V4-MFC I think most people who go wireless just use a different system completely as it works out cheaper. Then buying the tamiya MFC, then tamiya trailer lights, then Bluetooth....
@@Hi_Doctor_Nick thanks. I bought everything pretty much all at once, was my first truck kit and knew nothing about them really. I saw the tanker come up for sale and bought that, then the truck and all the hop up parts so didn’t really know there were wireless options available from other manufacturers. It would be nice to be wireless but to be honest it doesn’t worry me. I guess with a wireless system you’d need to hide an extra battery somewhere underneath or inside the tank.
The tank came out very nicely. I just bought one and haven't started installing it yet, and please tell me the width of the SHELL sticker. Or tell me where you bought the sticker. I will follow your lead when I start building it. Thank you.👍👍👍
Thankyou. The stickers came with the kit, it is a discontinued Tamiya kit. There are some reproduction sets for sale on eBay but they are a different design.

Wow, nice paint job, but my goodness these tiny Tamiya rattle cans cost a fortune! 150 dollars easily…
@@aa-xh6em thank you. Yes very expensive project, I wasn’t expecting it to cost so much and spend so much time on it.
Next time have a 400 ml can filled up with paint of choice at a paint shop, In the Netherlands they are around 20 bucks. Two colors equals 40… I’m sure one can is more than enough to paint the body, these automotive paints have much better coverage than the very translucent Tamiya paints.
@ thanks for the tip, that’s an excellent idea. I didn’t know that type of paint would work with plastics.
Wouldn't it be better if they put big battery packs in there
Great idea!
All the air and electric lines goes from the truck to the trailer not from the trailer to the truck so if you want to do it right go from the truck to the trailer that you will be more accreate. The electric do not go though the tanker.
@@JosephDalton-d3w hi Joseph. Not sure what you mean? There’s only one cable going from the MFC in the truck to the trailer and it operates the lights. Thanks for watching!

It looks amazing, Im doing a similar project . Would you say using the clear coat isnt a good idea?
@@danrees5520 thanks Dan. It’s really up to you. After the issue I had, which was probably down to me, I didn’t want to risk it. Way too many hours went into masking and pairing a second time and I couldn’t see how a clear coat would improve the finish. I didn’t use clear on the metallic orange and gun metal one I did after this and that came out even better. Not sure if you’ve seen that video. I’ve also done a couple of vintage Rangers, and the first one I did flat blue and clear coated it and the same thing happened. Both of those ended up with no clear coats. Very well done , back lights cover was a pain in the A$$ wasn’t?? I don’t get it why they don’t fit the “ lights” . Had same issue?
@@griffonwings5177 Thanks mate, yeah I don’t understand the lights either. They supply clear lenses but they don’t fit over the plastic parts. I did think about cutting them off but went the pain in the neck route of painting. How did yours go?
Great video thank you! I'm 52 years old and the BBX is my very first kit build. Just started. One question I have is when you apply the decals, am I right in saying you spray soapy water on the panel, and remove the adhesive back from the decal prior to placing the decal on the panel? And then as required move the decal into it's final position prior to applying heat to dry? Love the colour too. Makes the stripes really pop. Well done!
@@PaulBewley-w1k Hey Paul, thanks and what an awesome kit to start with! We are similar age. Yes, spot on regarding the decals. I spray the back of the decal too and I use the heat gun mostly when you need to gently stretch the decal around corners. Just be careful not to heat too much as it will damage the colouring and the adhesive will start spreading out past the cut edge. Just use minimum heat. The other method lots of others use is to cut the decal out, peel a small amount of the backing back, just enough to hold in place and fold the backing paper at that point. Then stick the decal in place with the exposed sticky part, peel the rest of the backing paper off then gently stick it down as you peel. I’ve never done it this way as you only get one chance. Soapy method allows for repositioning but only before you apply any heat. Hope that helps.
@@jason.bochniak Terrific thank you! Not sure why I didn't get into kit building earlier - absolutely loving it so far. A friend advised me to cut the body, paint and do decals first, as when the kit is finally built I'll be excited to drive the car so want to avoid rushing through the cutting, painting and adding decals. But thanks again - that's some great advice 🙂
@ it’s an awesome kit to build, nothing like Tamiya have done before. Painting first is a nice idea but the only issue is that you can’t pre fit it. This kit requires lots of small holes to drill. I cut, drilled, sanded and made sure it all fit perfectly before painting and applying decals. Making adjustments after could mess up your decals and painting. I would recommend painting the driver first though so you can install in the chassis. Good luck with it!
@@jason.bochniak Thank you again! At this point I have only cut out the panels and lightly sanded. I'll follow your advice and build the chassis next, and then mark and drill holes (making sure the drill holes all line up). And then paint and add decals last. Sorry for the 20 questions too - and this might seem obvious, but I'm assuming you always drill from the top side down, and then gently sand back any burr left underneath?
@ no worries. I think there’s a tiny dimple in the plastic for you to drill from the outside. If you drill in the middle with the right sized drill you should be fine. I have a set of very small Tamiya files, quite cheap really useful. You get round, flat and curved files. Just be careful not to scratch up the polycarbonate on the inside.
What an amazing time capsule !
@@NS-tv7wi sure was!
Superb. Great skills.
Cheers! One of my best efforts!
Thank you so much for this vid. As a beginner it's been very helpful.
Thanks Alan, that’s great to know. I’m a novice too, self taught and learning on every one. I’m just about to do a nice simple Rough Rider body, one colour only. Maybe I should do a video. It’s for the one I smashed up at Knox 3.0 recently.
Looks great. Im a total beginner at this, and I bought a sand scorcher last week. Is it wise to invest in an airbrush system or would rattle cans and brushes be sufficient? Thanks 👍.
@@broadband1820 Thanks mate, congratulations! Awesome kit to build, probably one of the trickiest to paint though with all the masking. I’ve never used an airbrush, rattle cans where ever possible then brushes for detail. If you take a look at my other Sand Scorcher paint video, which was done after this, I included the spraying in the video. Hope that helps and good luck with it!
@jason.bochniak Thanks for your help.
@ Any time Alan. Thanks for watching!
PS. Any idea why the lacquer effected the first paint job? It's good to know for future reference.
@@broadband1820 I’m certain it’s because I sprayed a heavy wet coat on which just reactivated the coats underneath. It’s best to do lots of light dry coats with time in-between to dry then one final wet coat to get the gloss.
i saw your rough rider running and have some photos if your intrested ?
Hi Karen, yes please, that would be great! You can email to me at: jason.bochniak@hotmail.com when you get a chance. Thank you!
Beautiful paint job. I'm working my way through a Ranger rebuild & having seen yours, I'll be using the same colours. Don't have a set of decals available though so I shall mask of the panels & maybe paint them silver instead.
@@russmilton4491 thanks Russ. The old decals are hard to find and they aren’t very sticky either. Mine are lifting and have creases here and there where they don’t stick down. They are super thin and not really flexible. RCdecals2 from the U.K. on eBay sell some decent reproduction versions if that helps. Paint sounds cool though. Good luck with it!
@@jason.bochniak Thanks for the heads up. I've used them before but couldn't find a Ranger set previously, They DO list it on their website & as I'm in the UK anyway, that's a win all round. Cheers mate & keep up the great Tamiya vids.
@@russmilton4491 no worries Russ, if I remember, he lists just one design but as you’ll know the MK1 & MK2 Ranger decals differ due to the front wheel arch dimensions being different so worth emailing him first. MCI in Canada list both options but I don’t think they are as good quality. I haven’t done any new builds recently, been to the vintage bash in Melbourne and bought an old 1/1 scale car which was been taking up my spare time. I do have a backlog of builds to do so will get on with them soon. Thanks again for the support!

@@NS-tv7wi no worries mate, happy to help!
Fantastic video and just the set up I was looking at with the tamiya esc and motor, so the esc cover can be put in place. A lot of videos are leaving that off as the esc is too big. Just out of curiosity can I ask why you chose the 15.5T and not the 10.5T - I believe that esc will run both ?. Could i also ask what receiver and control you are using as that also looked very neat. Sorry for all the questions but looking to get back into rc after a 35 year break and things have changed a lot in terms of electronics :-(.
@@NS-tv7wi Hi thanks for watching. I’m no expert but happy to help. Yes it all fits in there but the wires need to be super neat to fit. It was the most fiddly one I’ve done. Motor choice depends on lots of factors but simply the lower the turns, the faster the motor but with that there is less torque, so i believe lower turn faster motors are best suited for on road, drift cars etc. You can then play with the pinion gear to get the right ratio for your application, as per the charts supplied with the motor etc. I use a Noble NB4 transmitter & Flysky FGR4S V2 Receiver. The new NB4+ or Noble pro are other options. They can come with 2 receivers, the small one with no antenna and the larger one with an antenna. I use the larger ones in my SRBs. You can have 20 models stored. I still struggle with it as I grew up with stick transmitters. My vintage RC’s use the old school radio gear. Hope that helps and hope you are subscribed, cheers!
@ . Thankyou so much, really appreciate the information. I subscribed after watching your quality video, it’s the least I could do. Maybe when I finally get round to the body and transfers I can send it over to you to sort that out for me 😂
@ Thanks, it is appreciated. I’m not monitised so don’t earn any money from these videos. The comments & chat keep me motivated. If I didn’t have such a backlog of projects, I’d be happy to help lol. I hadn’t done a clear body for so many years until this one, been mostly doing hard bodies. Lots of components but if you take your time, cut it all out, pre-drill and fit everything before painting, you’ll be fine. I’ve done a paint video for this one too. Lots of light coats is the key with time between to dry. Sorry, what’s your name? Are you in the U.K.?
