This channel is for anyone who wants to hear music i've created over the past 20 years or so, and look at the pretty pictures while doing so. As basic as the pics are, i still find it mesmerizing to stare at something while i listen. Probably why MTV took off back in the early 80's. If you like original music in a world of movie remakes, cover music, and tribute bands then please like and subscribe to this channel, it helps out. Thanks! 0-0
DCALABRESE Sample 1991
1991 is all i know about this simple jam in Esus. more quartel harmony and runs. once the bug bites, you must explore and work it out it is a lot of fun though... Thank you for listening. All content copyright david a. calabrese 1991. dcalabrese113@gmail.com for comment. thank you.

DCALABRESE Opening Night 1991

05.1991. yeah, finally something fast with some energy. an opening the gig type tune, it was written in the spirit of the great Barry Miles, under who's influence i fell thanks to the great Gerry Carboy, with whom he was extremely fortunate to play. and then he turned me on to him as well as McCoy Tyner, of whom i was already familiar, but didn't really see until Gerry pointed to him and what h...

07.1991. originally titled 'Ladyfinger'. one of my favorite early ballads. i retitled it after a friends newborn daughter, Angel, who was very quiet and looked around the room alot. 04.1992. another on written in my early twenties in '85 or '86, originally titled 'Mood Walk', with 'mood' being a euphemism for 'mode'. before that time in the early '90s i was mostly steeped in basic tertial harmony, that is harmony stacked in thirds, with my main teacher being the infamous 'Real Book' that all educated musicians of jazz knew at that time. i left my proper human teacher after...

05.1991. originally part of a three song suite titled 'Western Trinitarian Theology', it later it became one of the several pieces i have about MLK. in the very dark key of 'Eb-', i was able to do a full blown version of it about 7 years down the road when i acquired a digital workstation, the Roland XP-80, which you can hear posted elsewhere on this channel. worth a listen, if for no other rea...
DCALABRESE I Don't Know 1990

most of these early songs don't always have exact month/day/year annotations as i developed that a little later when my personal catalog started growing, so this is just 1990 sometime. written in the spirit of John Mclaughlin under who's spell my brother Michael the guitar player, Ed the drummer and I fell because of that Inner Mounting Flame album and that Mahavishnu Orchestra band of his. wha...

09.1991. not sure who or to what i was saying goodbye. i think it was to the world in the sense that i had just joined the Yasgurs Farm cover band which was ultra popular here along the Jersey coast with my best friend Ed Follenvaider, the drummer with the fastest foot in the east, and the loudest technique. we used to call him Led Vaider because of this. what a pal, miss him terribly sometimes...
DCALABRESE Big City 1991

05.1991. dreaming of the big city, which for any native Jerseyan is always NYC. it contains a snippet of a song which i recorded on the Piano Music II album a year later called Soir Rouge (red night), which is one of the super early ditties penned about 5 years earlier, and starts with the half-time break and lasts just for one pass. the key of 'B' was always such a difficult thing for me, for ...

06.1991. a ballad in 6/8 with a doubling of the timing of the melodic phrasing at the bridge. key of 'D'. maybe titled this way because of the Duke. not the actor, but Ellington. but i'm not sure, it was a long time ago. most of these selections were written in the summer and late spring. if i remember there was a surge in my interest in composition and piano at that time due to the time away f...

about a hooker. written with words, actually, with Al Jarreau in mind as singer because i thought his voice was elastic enough to be able to deal with the gymnastic aspect of the melody. 'A' section is in G- in a half-time 5 with the bridge in the relative major of Bb in 4/4 swing. Thank you for listening. DCALABRESE Kiss Me Like You Do 07.1993

originally titled 'Coffee In Bed', a ballad tinged with emotional content. probably why Em liked this one. having nothing to do with the morning drink, 'coffee' was a nickname for my girlfriend at the time, and we had just moved in together. what a cliche LOL. another simple straight ahead tune. i think the title was inspired by John Mcglaughlin because he has a song with that name, but don't quote me. this song was also inspired by a tone row, but you can't tell. sometimes i would write in strict tone-row style, but usually i would use it as melodic or harmonic inspiration to generate content, and then abandon the row and be off and running. one of ...

DCALABRESE That's Right, Herbie 02.1993

titled for the great unsung Herbie Nichols. he seemed to disappear under the shadow of Monk, because they were similar in so many ways, and worked around the same time period. it;s the second homage i have to him, with the other being 'Nichols' Nickels' posted in the 'Scraps From The Table' playlist on this channel. the 'B' section is totally his melodic fragment, and inspired the song. Thank y...

@@Ugyatoli thanks for your response! I do wish it were an actual video rather than a still image, but, the music, the music...
Cool work

Thanks brother, I appreciate you. Is that a picture of what I think it is? The red circle I mean LOL
I could never steel my brothers licks. He was to fast for a guitar player!
This is purrrrrrdy. 🫶🏼
We went to the same Highschool. You were a few years ahead. All my friends Jim Mac, Alex Goetchious, Jim Fourniadis told me about you way back....they were right. I dig the Karn Evil 9 refrences!!

Oh, David, what a wonderful talent you are...so special. This song flows and warms my soul. Love the wonderful vocals and jazzy chords. You are an awesome talent and LOVE you so much!!!
+Anita Ivette Ferrer thank you Anita! talent is a funny thing, isn't it? i think it's physical Karma, or cellular inheritance. many lifetimes of buildup - focused choices over lifetimes. That's why your talent is so unmistakable and undeniable, because you've been more focused than i, for longer. many lifetimes. love you back. 0-0
Grooooovy.

Perhaps the restaurant was disorganized, but it inspired this wonderful piece of music. Love this angle and what you did to the video.
+V WildRose Alright V! Let's not forget you provided the angle. Thanks for being there, it was a wonderful day. 0-0
A great time, a beautiful day, a fabulous gig, incredible music performed by the Nuvo Brothers! I had a blast. Sorry about the shaky cam, experimenting with a new use for a "selfie-stick" ;)
+V WildRose You don't even come close to a shaky cam compared to 90% of the vids out there. Thanks for being there, and keep on experimenting. Can't hardly wait to ferret out our sound w/Larry......soon.... 0-0
Me too!
