when i was in my teens, my incredible teacher Robert Pleasant had me write chord progressions to get my feet wet in composition. he later said 'now write a melody to these progressions'. i didn't know it at the time, but it lit the fire under me for composing, and i've been doing it ever since, and with a vengeance starting in 1991.
