Thank you for visiting my channel. Rving is my passion, and I enjoy everything that has to do with RV travel and RV modifications. We started in a 5th wheel in 2008, and moved onto a Class A diesel pusher, Class B Van, Winnebago View, and now a Dynamax Isata 5. I'm sure we will be switching to something else in the future. We use our RV's like an extension of our home, and make many modifications to make it more convenient while on the road.
I enjoy learning new ways to make Rving better, and also enjoy helping other people enjoy the RV lifestyle.

In this video, I show how I repair the failed caulking in my 2023 Dynamax. The repair process is pretty simple if you take your time. With the flexing and movement while driving down the road, it is important for any sealant/caulking to have elastomeric properties aka stretch. I have used DAP Extreme Stretch on many projects with success. The product comes in different colors. The key is to hav...
Almost Locked in My RV

In this video, I show a real world situation where my entry door deadbolt was in the stuck position. Luckily we have a class C and have the front doors that we can get out (although very difficult). I cut off the deadbolt, and upon inspection, it looked like the deadbolt was bent. This could have been accidentally done by us. I ordered a new deadbolt from PTL Engineering. Portable Solar Panel vs Factory Mounted RV Solar Panels

Most RV'ers typically research getting new solar panels for their RV. The cheapest and fastest solution is to get some portable solar panels. My 950 watts of factory solar always seemed to perform poorly from day 1. They seem to work ok at noon in the summer when the sun is straight up in the air, but any other time, the shading from the AC units drastically impair their performance. The instal...

This is just a random vlog of our June 2023 summer road trip that includes Yellowstone and Grand Teton. It shows how a 33 ft RV can easily maneuver a typical national park. Must be nice to say " I don't know how long I'm going to hold on to this RV," how to say you have money without saying it.
low quality parts for a nice super C
They could use improvement in that area.
With a Ford chassis vehicle, you need to go to a Ford dealer that services commercial Ford vehicles. Not all Ford dealers are able to service the commercial E-series or even the commercial Transit vehicles.
Yes that is very true, and many people are unaware.
Thank you so much for the review. I was considering this model but no more. These rigs are not cheap and the lack of quality control is lousy.
Yeah the lack of quality is disappointing. You may want to reach out to Dynamax regional sales rep (info on their website) and voice your concerns. I know they are pretty reactive to customer concerns.
nothing wrong with you editing, same your money

nice. this RV keeps on giving 🙂
So true lol.
nice to see your content you are really doing well🥰I am a video editor but here i notice video editing pert, if your video look attractive then you can get huge engagement and convert your revenue/channel growth 5x more. I also do thumbnails design, Video SEO and video editor.
This channel is not worth editing. You may want to find a better channel for that.
Another great video - just found your channel. As for how to store water, 3 or 5 gallon glass (preferably) or plastic water bottles used with either a countertop dispenser or pump that sits on top of the bottle. Can filter and refill at home before heading out or at a grocery store water dispenser for about 35¢/gal. If the water must be cold, put a couple of ice cube trays in the freezer.
Not a bad idea. I have yet to do anything about it. Our family uses about 7 gallons of drinkable water on our usual weekend trips so that make is a pain to find a right container.
Famous last RV words, My final repair 😂. I heard there is a nationwide recall on the slide system you might want to check out.
Ain't that the truth lol. I don't know of anything about the recall. Is it Dynamax specific? I hope they recall the POS controllers and switches.
Please let us know details on any SlimRack recall. I'd love the new 'dumb' control version on our '22 Isata 3 24FW.
@@rvlifediy I heard about it from a third part who was interested in purchasing one. I was told the dealer informed them of the recall.
That would be great if they do. I know the controllers would be over 1k just for the parts.
You ever think about getting a lift?
@fomocoshow yes. I've priced the liquid springs with the Buckstop kit. I change RVs to often so the cost may not be worth doing.
QUESTION: I have the same RV. I get water in my basement storage while driving during rain storms. I went through and caulked between the metal and plastic part of the storage bins. It has cut down drastically the amount of water coming in, but still get a some. (Dust/dirt as well from dirty roads) Next step was to look at the door seals. Do you have this issue, Any suggestions???
Depends on the compartment. If it is the main compartment in front of the back wheel, you also need to seal the light fixture. You have to remove the light, and seal the hole where the wire comes out. I sealed it with butyl tape, and then caulked the screw holes, and also caulked the back side that faces the tire. For the seals, it should leave a good pattern on the door and when you shut the door and lock it, the door should be tight against the seal (you can check by tugging on the locked handle and see if there is play). You would have to adjust the latch at that point. I had to do that to one of my doors on the other side. And lastly, I've seen several I5's with the entire door being crooked. If you look at the door when facing it with it closed, I've seen several with the left side of the door really low. This causes the seal to not contact the door properly, and can let water in also. You would have to adjust the entire door, which is a little more tasking and need 2 people to do it. Hope that helps.
Very interesting person!
👍
Great ideas! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for this video. It was very helpful for me. We are getting ready to make our first trip in our new RV.
Awesome. First trips are always exciting. Have fun.
Real life
Hi . How does the RV perform in windy conditions? Wyoming gets a lot of wind and I want to get one and RV like what you have. But how does it do in 30 to 40 mph winds
I've had 3 RVs through Wyoming and this is the best one. It handles pretty good in wind but 30-40 mph will have you turning your wheel into the wind. You will feel it for sure, but won't have those scary white knuckle maneuvers. I'd give it a solid B plus in the wind handling.
Wow. We are looking at purchasing the 2025 Dynamax Isata 5 with the extreme package and the explorer package. I was all ready to buy until I watched this video. For $300,000 I would expect a much better fit and finish and design. The wind is now out of my sales and I am rethinking this whole purchase.
I wouldn't let my videos discourage you. Just do a thorough check and maybe get an RV inspector. I do agree the price is much higher than what you get in return. It has potential if they focus more on fit and finish, slideouts and electrical and plumbing.
These RV,s cost to much for these kind of issues. We've talked about getting one, but on second thought, we'll pass. I've heard many talk about the cheap quality, and materials and the even worse customer service. NO THANKS! Thanks for posting.👍
Yes it's a tough decision for sure. I love the lifestyle, but also know the realities of the repairs needed. That turns off many people.
Put the drain pipe back on so you can turn the drain nut without the whole drain turning.
That makes sense.
A big thanks for the various informative videos. A quick question would you buy another Dynamax Isata 5 30FW Xplorer ???? Thanks for your timely response. Don
@donmanzano5716 yes under the right conditions. 1. If an aggressive discount was given (this should be the case currently) 2. If the slide out controls are updated to the auto controls (I believe Dynamax stated they were in the process of updating) 3. If they quit using the flexible plumbing water hoses (or use the proper connectors with them). The rest would be up to you on doing an extensive walk through and make sure everything is fixed (realistically this is hard to do because most buyers are eager to get it home, and the dealers never fix them in a timely fashion). I would factor in making a repair list and going back home and returning to inspect the repairs, but be prepared that all problems aren't fixed and repeat the process of making them repair again. In my opinion Dynamax has too many repair items that the dealer has to do and better quality control should fix that. My 2 cents.
Hahaha .... the man needs change in his life at all 😄😄😄 from iraq 👋👋
Great video... they need to hire you to help them improve all these mistakes.
Sounds good to me lol
Teflon tape would help the loose one, but generally you do not put tape on plastic-on-plastic joints. The plastic threads deform into each other if made correctly.
I have exactly 20 hrs on my Onan 3200. The chk the oil indicator showed up as soon as It hit 20 hrs while I am on the road at Mackay Reservoir Idaho.
I wouldn't worry about it and just change the oil at the next convenient time. If I recall, 20 hours was the 1st break in oil change required.
What did you use to clean the oil filter? Paper towels only? Or some sort alcohol or acetone?
Paper towel and compressed air.
Roof leak, I am out
Can't blame you. That one bothered me the most.
Thank you for the video. I like that you 1. used the heavy gloves 2. recommended the extension and 3. showed the actual removal.

Can you tell me where to get that sink cover, what size?
The Amazon link is in the video description. It should list the size on Amazon. I believe it's currently unavailable on Amazon. Buy you could call the manufacturer directly. I belive it's Elk Mountian. So if you do a search for Elk Mountain sink cover or rv parts you may find it.
Our smell is just outside the door. Where would it be coming from. The black tack has been completely cleansed.
what floor plan do you have?
Gonna do this to my fifth wheel this houston heat isn't no joke!
I think you will be happy with the results.
Wow they want hundreds of thousands for this. Buyers Beware
Yes the RV pricing is too much for what you get.
I know you have put a lot of time and money in that coach, but after 60 years of RVing I hate to say it but that rig is a POS. The floor plan is also terrible for a Motorhome with slides. The travel access is especially bad with that bed design. I owned a 1995 Wnnebago Luxor DP for 17 years and i can count the numbef if issues i had on one hand ( all were very minor). I know almost all new rigs are junk and I'm sorry to have comment like this but I'd move on to a someting better made ( Renegade maybe) before that rig really sinks you.
Yes the floorplan is not very user friendly with the slides in. I've looked at Renegade but they don't have any floorplans I like, and I do not want a longer RV at this time. Buying a new RV these days is hard to justify with all the problems out there. Maybe I need to look at an older one.
@rvlifediy The Renegade 30FW is smaller and the Floorplan is good
@@rvlifediy It's actually the Renegade Isata 5 30FW MODEL.
@@rvlifediy I can't keep all these models straight anymore. It's the veracruz 30 vrm
I did check it out. It was pretty much identical to the Winnebago I had previously with the murphy bed. Nothing wrong with the floorplan but it the same I had but overall length longer. Same issue with Murphy bed not usable with slide in. Quality looked better on the Renegade though.
I think Dynamax should sale their units with you in them!
I'd be happy to do a full factory detailed inspection of their completed RV before they go to the dealer for sale lol.
@@rvlifediy really appreciate the time and know how you invest into this issues, I do own the same unit as you do even though I do not encounter as many of those issues I know they are there and eventually(hopefully not)will show up, in the meantime time I hope that you are enjoying your unit as it was intended. I tell my wife that you are Dynamax worts nightmare! Best to you!
Sorry for all the problems you are having, I wonder if every owner of this particular RV are having the same issues, thank for posting very discomforting!
I doubt every owner is having the same problems. Likely problems in batches made in a particular time period. It seems common in the RV industry. Some brands better than others and maybe always a lemon in a batch no matter the manufacturer?
Another good job! We are starting to like you more, thank you!
👍
I had to admit your observations were very annoying to me since I do have the same unit, your thrashing down to our good performing but not perfect units were I thought a bit extreme, but yes these are not inexpensive units and it can be frustrating to find as you have things wrong with their manufacturing quality, we on the other side are not as knowledgeable as you are an our expectations are much less, your observations are never the less well taken, thanks for the positives as well!
Seems most people are happy with their RV until severe issues pop up. If yours has little to no problems, you are lucky and hope you continue to have a great ownership experience. I don't have an issue if something breaks, but I do get annoyed when the original installation was done incorrectly by the experts. Little problems can turn into huge problems later on when the warranty is up. Nothing worse than dealing with mold and rotten wood, and a ruined roof. I've seen too many owners of many different brands run into this issue. They were all happy with their RV until they weren't. I'm just lucky I found my leak before the damage was beyond a simple repair.
okay
👍
Great review, Mahalo for sharing.
Thank you
My 24ft c with diff lock 3 inch lift and tires does more then this I got 9000$ in it lol
I like the sound of the $9000 the most lol. As much as I like a 2x4 with a locker (pretty much can handle anything in dirt), I have not had much luck with a 2x4 in deep snow even with a locker. I'd take a 4x4 with open diff in the deeper snow over just a rear locker. But back to that 9000 lol. I like that thinking much better.
@@rvlifediy we on our way back from traveling Philippines for 2 years I have a 1997 Chevy suburban 2500 4x4 I’m going to set it up we heading to Alaska tired of 24/7 heat lol

@MangoKashInThePhilippines I've thought about the throw away class C because we change RVs often. It would be much cheaper for sure. Not worried about the house repairs, but the risk of major drive train repairs while on the trip.
I just came across your video. I am looking to re-enforce my fan vent lid to protect it from hail. I think the plasti dip paint might protect it a bit from hail. I was wondering how this has held up 1 year later?
@katkg7129 I sold the Rv last April but it held up fine. I've had it on a different RV for 5 years with no problems. And yes it should help with hail and protect the plastic from getting brittle from the sun.
@@rvlifediy thank you
If the proper caulk originally used it would not already be cracking. Flexible silicon caulk would last long. Find an appalling the high quality RV manufacturer with skimp a few pennies & use crap caulk.
Can't disagree.
Such a great video!!! Very valuable info! What were they rushing for? Quality is everything!!!
Yeah exactly. They should focus on quality instead of rushing them out the door.
Thats one heck of a rig
Once you work out all the bugs it's a good rig. They do need to improve their quality control and their slideouts though.
Isn’t there some alignment pins to make sure the dialog wheels mount snug to the hub? I do appreciate you showing how to do a change. Thanks
Not that I recall. It's a hub centered wheel so the hub itself does the alignment.
Risareyi is the brand I just purchased on Amazon. It is 28x78. The door is 26x77 so I hope the extra inch around is just right.
It should work if it's bigger
I'm currently in Grand Teton, outside the laundry. I've been talking to three Mercedes RV Van owners telling me they can not get their Mercedes worked on for over 4 hours away...my Ford E450 has a repair shop in Yellowstone and Jackson...LOL.
Yeah E450 definitely has more service locations. The challenge is if the facility has a lift big enough to fit an RV if lifting is required.
Where is the camping? CLICK BAIT!😢
Next time.
My crankcase breather hose also split. It was in the middle of the night, generator running, then stopped. Dumped oil until the low oil sensor shut the generator off. OEM piece is around $450.00, so I fixed it myself using the rescue tape, which makes it stronger than the original. Hint - stick a socket in the hose before trying to wrap with rescue tape. It keeps it from collapsing and makes it much easier to do.
Good tip on the socket. Seems this is a common ongoing problem for many years
