Thank you for visiting my channel. Rving is my passion, and I enjoy everything that has to do with RV travel and RV modifications. We started in a 5th wheel in 2008, and moved onto a Class A diesel pusher, Class B Van, Winnebago View, and now a Dynamax Isata 5. I'm sure we will be switching to something else in the future. We use our RV's like an extension of our home, and make many modifications to make it more convenient while on the road.
I enjoy learning new ways to make Rving better, and also enjoy helping other people enjoy the RV lifestyle.

In this video, I show how I repair the failed caulking in my 2023 Dynamax. The repair process is pretty simple if you take your time. With the flexing and movement while driving down the road, it is important for any sealant/caulking to have elastomeric properties aka stretch. I have used DAP Extreme Stretch on many projects with success. The product comes in different colors. The key is to hav...
Almost Locked in My RV

In this video, I show a real world situation where my entry door deadbolt was in the stuck position. Luckily we have a class C and have the front doors that we can get out (although very difficult). I cut off the deadbolt, and upon inspection, it looked like the deadbolt was bent. This could have been accidentally done by us. I ordered a new deadbolt from PTL Engineering. If you go on their web...
Portable Solar Panel vs Factory Mounted RV Solar Panels
Переглядів 1,6 тис.6 місяців тому
Most RV'ers typically research getting new solar panels for their RV. The cheapest and fastest solution is to get some portable solar panels. My 950 watts of factory solar always seemed to perform poorly from day 1. They seem to work ok at noon in the summer when the sun is straight up in the air, but any other time, the shading from the AC units drastically impair their performance. The instal...

This video is just a glimpse of a typical quick overnight RV trip. Most of our trips are extended weekends and sometimes longer. We usually do some type of hiking or outdoor activity. Casual shore fishing is a big part of many of our trips that don't involve national parks. There is no perfect way to travel or camp, but this video just shows you how we do it. Some items I showed in the video. A...

This is just a random vlog of our June 2023 summer road trip that includes Yellowstone and Grand Teton. It shows how a 33 ft RV can easily maneuver a typical national park. My Final Suspension Mod on My Winnebago View Sprinter Van

My Final Suspension Mod on My Winnebago View Sprinter Van
Good afternoon from Pheonix, AZ. I watched your video with great interest. Because my wife is always concerned when the front wheels are lifted from the ground. So here I am. My 2022 Winnebago View (looks like your RV) does this most of the time, even on flat surface. So I spoke today with both Winnebago and EQ Systems. Both said that the Auto Leveler System is doing its job properly. Winnebago suggested I take it to a dealer and have them adjust it if I'm concerned. EQ suggested that I take a level to the unit, measure, auto level it, then measure the level off the ground or not. If level, then it's doing a good job. If not level, I can either take it to a dealer for adjustment, or read the manual, page 12 and I can adjust it manually and set the setting in memory. Neither would say if it's good or bad to have elevated wheels. Your thoughts on that?
Hello, having the wheels off the ground won't hurt the mercedes but in my experience, it does over squish the bushings on the front sway bar and other suspension bushings which isn't good in the long run. What Winnebago and Equalizer is telling you sounds right. The reality is that their leveling brain is not sophisticated enough to level properly. Just like you mentioned, it will do extreme leveling in unnecessary situations. They can't fix that without adding more sensors. The manufacturers won't do that. Auto leveling is good marketing material. You are better off making you own adjustments/programming like I did. Hope that helps
Easiest way to get lug nuts off imo, would be to buy 1/2" impact off Amazon with correct size socket for your rig
Yep that is the plan from now on.
You need to look at your Sprinter manual that IS NOT the proper jack point for your Sprinter body
That is likely the case for a regular car jack. These are hydraulic leveling jacks that are permanently mounted to the Sprinter frame. They are installed at the location approved by Mercedes.
Camping.in a camper!!! I am not sure we can call this camping You are not roughing it out my friend
Lol very true.
Maybe they use that non pex flex hose instead of true pex tubing which isn't flexible.
Yes that's true but it's because it's cheaper to do. To make hard turns with pex, you have to have more fittings. The flexible tubes are cheaper but give a terrible product. Leaks at many connection eventually because they use incompatible fittings.
Dynamax needs to hire someone like you. Between the duct work and solar set up they appear to be poorly engineered and executed. That electrical wiring looks like a rats nest. Im absolutely positive those panels will perform WAY better if you move them like you suggested.
Yes they could have a better product if done right at the same cost. Not enough qualified people doing inspections. I ripped out all their solar and redid it. Performs much better with less total watts of panels.
I called it before you showed it. A tee off the duct going to the register under the sink was a design error. Most all of the hot air was shooting right past it. Nice fix. Thanks for sharing.
I wonder who engineered that? Certainly a non qualified engineer or anyone with common sense of airflow.
Well done, YOU! 🙂 The manufacturer needs to do things better!
Yes they do. Too bad they can get away with it.....
Too much talking report unlike
Yes.
We have a 2022 View, that POS door is garbage and has really turned me off ever thinking about ever buying another Winnebago. We asked for them to fix it under warranty but they simply said “it’s working within specs.”
Yes it's definitely a POS and why the new models don't have them. They should do a recall on on those doors, but they won't.
Does look like its install correctly
It's install correctly. Just looks odd because the suspension is off the body completely. Once at ride height, it is looks better.
@@rvlifediy i have same sprinter except you hv the rollers touching the bottom leaf? Shouldnt the roller be at the middle leaf?. That bottom leaf usually dont move...is it right??......does the ride feel less harsh after install? Thx..
It's correct. The manufacturer has install instructions on their website.
Theres a reason the battery compartment isn't sealed completely... Batteries need ventilation...
@jonjacob1962 not for lithium iron phosphate batteries like these. Most manufactures have enclosed compartments for lithium batteries.
Cool video. I have a generation 2 antenna, but can't find where I can purchase a volcano mount. Do you have a source? Thank you so much!
I got my volcano mount from starlink directly but I'm sure they discontinued it due to new dishes out already. You may find one on ebay. Unfortunately they have the expensive starmount you can get as well.
What was the problem?
It was a bad fuse that controlled the glo plugs. The glo plugs are needed in cold weather. It came that way from the factory but also a very common problem for that fuse to blow out.
The 1st few min were winter camping, then a tour of your RV?? ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz...........
Yep most of my videos are zzzs. I'll try to get better true winter camping videos this year.
Now its even better Starlink added option to disable motors and set it Flat for in motion.
Yes on my next RV, I think I'll upgrade the dish. It will be a much simpler installation.
@@rvlifediy No i mean on Gen 2, the app allows to stow it flat for use in motion.
@tehdreamer hmm. Not sure on that one. The app always had a stow mode (lay it flat) but it shut off the dish completely so it's not usable. Maybe they changed that but my app still shows the same. If click stow on the app, it will shut off the dish on gen 2. Maybe there is some other command I am not seeing.
@@rvlifediy they added it about 5 months ago. Its an option in my app and I bought a refurb gen 2, do you have latest software? It has "Tilt" options Automatic or Flat. Not the same as "Stow". May need to update the app itself
What additional weight did the leaf springs add? Any additional weight lowers the CCC's.
The springs are 19 pounds each. Yes it does add on 38 total pounds (lowers CCC), but it makes the handling and safety much more superior. I'd take that over the 38 pound loss.
Good video, thank you. I was told not to use a torque wrench in place of a breaker bar.
Yeah it is not recommended to use a torque wrench.
I still can't understand.. they say solo camping.. then who is operating all the cameras 😂
I think your comment is meant for a different video
Two questions, what part number did you use and did you put the OEM bump stops back on.
I did not put the OEM bump stop back on. I ended up back with the sumo spring on. I don't recall the exact helper spring part number but you can contact Henderson Line Up and ask them. They have the best source for sprinter type RV suspension improvements.
Good video. Have you considered using a battery powered Impact gun to break the bolts free?
It's on my list to buy in December. Good idea.
Background music is not satisfying
Can't argue with you on that. I'm surprised anyone watched.
Maybe get a couple small diesel heaters
That's a good idea. If I was planning in keeping this RV longer, I think I would do that mod for sure.
I prefer a Ford Transit Chassis. Mainly because it’s much smaller
@skeleguns10oooooo10 Transit is definitely much smaller and easier to maneuver. Winnebago Ekko on the transit is not bad.

Well done! I am STILL learning lots from your videos! 🙂
👍 Hope you are doing well
@@rvlifediy I am now in Britain, which is now a VERY different country. God is Faithful.
Well done and another great informative video. Thank you!
👍
@@rvlifediy I apologise for my previous comment and I wish you ALL the best! ✝️
That ain't no dually
Yeah, it ain't no Dually F350 or 3500, but similar set up with a full floating axle and dually wheels. It more compares to a dually E350 van. The vans just happen to be a little wimpier than the trucks.
What a beautiful camper
you babble so much
Well, you ain't lying.
Great video, thanks. I’m wondering if it would be easier to rivet the mount to the aluminum plate.
Rivets would be much faster for sure. I did the bolts so I could remove mount if necessary but have never had to do it.
Did you have any leaking in the upper bunk? If so, what did you use and where to address it? Thanks
No I never had leaks when I owned it. I've read there are common leaks on these though. I've read that some come through the slide windows. There is the main roof cap seam on top as well.
Meant to day bunk side windows and the roof cap transition at the bunk to flat roof.
Very instructive - thank you! Have you found that the rigid panels outperform the flexible ones by....a lot? A little?
Yes the rigid panels perform much better. Especially as the temperature warms up. I'm in the process of changing out the flexible panels to rigid panels in my new RV right now.
@@rvlifediy Great to know!
WTF ever. This MFer wheels outside dual is pressed on
Not sure what you mean by this. I've had 4 different duallys and they have all been like this. Is there something specific you saw?
Damn dude gets to the point!
Easy man. This is a hobby, and all my videos are boring.
Forest river forum has a thread with isata 5 capable service centers.
I've seen it long time ago but nothing close in my area. And many of them only do basic service where they have to do the service outside the building. Many can't fit the I5 in their service bay due to size.
@rvlifediy recheck it, it has been updated with a map, and lots of places that can handle the rig inside.
@fjb960 I just checked it. Not sure how accurate that map is. It lists national indoor rv center in Vegas. They don't do chassis work. I've checked there several times.
어마어마 하네요. 부럽습니다
What topper did you use on front bunk looks thicker then mine
It was just a plain old mattress topper from Amazon that I cut down. If i had to do it over again, I'd get one that didn't need to be cut and also with a cover for it. IKEA may have something.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
Great video!!! For your edification, Satellites are in space. Those things on your roof are Antennas to include the Starlink antenna you mounted.
Yes good catch. 👍
Looks like my wife will have a hard time doing that, gona get her a year membership to a gym.
Lol
I take an impact driver, makes it real simple.
I need to buy one for sure.
Thank you for this very informative yet dispassionate ⁹review of the Isata. I have always considered this model for my next purchase as it is built on the Ram chassis and mdiesel engine. From a strict appearance point of view, I thought this Super C was cool looking and eye-catching. The outside paintwork makes it very attractive. You can imagine my disappointment while watching your vlog. I understand manufacturers have difficulty finding good employees these days. The nature of our present administration discourages education which can be applied to the real world. College liberal arts education has become virtually worthless. So, I sympathize with all manufacturers which build things. I hate to think that this lack of attention to detail is attributable to a poorly educated workforce. Most, if not all, of the problem areas you point out could have been discovered by competent PDI. However, these areas must also be re-engineered. I was gobsmacked by the sloppy, slapdash assembly. Also, the cheap, chintzy materials was shocking. This top-of-the-line Isata is very expensive. Its MSRP is over $200K if I recollect correctly. Your thorough examination was extremely educational and useful. I do not envy your prospects for selling this rig. While your personal improvements and remediations will not save you from depreciation, perhaps they will defray some of the loss. I would never trade your model to a dealer and let it benefit from your investment. A private sale will allow you to take credit for your improvements and maximize resale. Thanks again for an excellent review.
Thank you. Yes they have some improvements to make. Especially at their price point.
Sad! I was a big fan of the Extreme, but now I'm out. Thank you.
Understand. You may want to voice your concerns with their management. They seem to listen but not sure how well they can implement.
Why showing the rich people camping, the real pleasure and thrill comes when poor people do the camping in real time showing the hardship. These people are making vlogs to earn money.
@user-iq1ov4tq2n What? It's not a contest on rich vs poor. Neither camping style is better. I've done both for many years.
with today's announcement from Starlink; if you have Roam/Unlimited service you can use it in motion up to 100mph. so now, your install is even more intriguing. You did this a good 28 months ago... curious, how did it hold up? And... where did you get hte Volcano Mount (direct from Starlink?) THX
The volcano mount was from Starlink directly. I don't think they sell it anymore? You might find one on ebay. The newer way I did it on my Dynamax RV performs better with the dish motor shut off and the dish laying flat, and not pointing north. Mounts are still great.
@@rvlifediy How'd you do that? did you do a vid on it (great video... surprised I never saw it before).
@paulwallin7985 yes there is a video. You have to go back 23 videos.
Torque wrenches aren't meant to be used as regular wrenches, they can handle the rated torque when tightining but way lower torque when loosening.
my 2020 view has black plates under the existing hinges on the non door part hinge i m the second owner where did the black plates come from ?
Mine had the same. It's original from Winnebago.
so i won't put one of them for hinges in middle of two existing hinges as i dont have one for they dont come with the hinges thanks for the idea and the quick reply
Im so confused, saw snow for 2 minutes then rest you in your driveway
Yeah. Next time I'll show some more winter camping action.
