  • This repair work would easily be covered under warranty, but it was more hassle for me to schedule an appointment and wait 1-6 weeks for the repair to be complete (and possibly have the same issue). The cost in diesel would have been more than the repair material I already had in hand. The manufacturer needs to have careful quality control if they are relying on VHB tape, as any simple error will cause a fail.
In this video, I show you a step by step process on repairing the refrigerator lock on my 2023 Dynamax with the residential refrigerator. The lock fell off during our very first trip. At first, I thought the lock fell off due to too much weight in the refrigerator, but after inspection, it looks like the VHB tape that lock was attached with, was not installed properly. I relocated the lock closer to the door handle to stop the momentum of the door quicker, and also attached the VHB tape with primer. Using the VHB tape primer is a fool proof way to make sure you get a good attachment.
The VHB tape primer I use goes out of stock quite often. You can also use the 3M 94 primer instead of the 3M Universal VHB primer I typically use.

I don't have a good video. If you go back to one of my older videos (I think my 8th video), I have a poorly made video but it does show how I did it. It's only for the panel install and not the wiring.

The suffice that you are trying to stick the tape to on the fridge is not a smooth surface. Both services must be smooth. Also is the fridge suffice cold that might also be a problem. Cold surface warm air can draw moisture making adhesion limited try turning your fridge off for 24 hr. And leave the door open to equalise the temperatures. But I am concerned about that aligstor type texture of the trim on the fridge.

Yes the bumps on the fridge was concerning to me as well. The vhb tape I used has decent thickness so I think as long as proper pressure is applied, it could work. The primer is more important in my opinion. I've already tested it for 60 days with good results. I have exterior VHB Tape that's been in 120F ambient temps and 10F ambient temp with no issues (used with VHB primer) and sealed around the edges to keep moisture out.

Unfortunately I agree. I feel bad for owners that have to either live with it or bring it in for warranty work that takes forever.
