I am convinced that no dealer on these late model wakeboats ever checks or sets this with this much detail. Everything is so hacked together now days. Supra dealer has been a nightmare to deal with
😂 😂not enough sand in the shorts 😂 😂
Ron. You’re the best. Love your videos. Wish you were closer
Ron big shout out on this how too video. After I had checked my timming and it was all over the place. Purchased the exact Pertronix you had installed. My Supra comp runs like new if not better. I was a bit hesitant on pulling my distributor, however you gave me the confidence to attempt. Thanks to you and Sara for helping solve my problem problem
great video - thanks
I'm about to bleed my brakes, I'm going to use a power bleeder.
Can I use my trailer with a broken master by just keeping the pin rod forward With the magnet ? Also, how do push the pin to forward position again?
Great video. I intend to use this as my guide for the same process. I have a 1990 Ski Natique with a PCM 351. Two questions, 1) should I by pass the resistor feeding the coil? 2) Is my 351 PCM PLD-PR-R12PP a Windsor engine., to ensure I get the correct distributor/coil? Thanks again for a great video..
Our distributors come with a correct new coil, and does not use a ballast resister. 1990 Correct crafts should be standard rotation but I would double check, if the front pulleys are rotating clock-wise it is a standard rotation engine/distributor, if counter-clockwise it is a Reverse rotation engine/distributor.
When would you need new couplings?
Do you have any idea to adjust the throttle tension. My throttle will not hold its position when running, if I take my hand off the lever it goes back to idle. Bad news when going through rough water if you need a hand to adjust the trim tabs or something. Wants to put you through the windshield :( Thanks
What do you torque the installation bolts to?
I just replaced my shock absorber that was definitely bad. It seems like the master cylinder was good and squirting juice…however the whole hitch assembly still slams back and forth upon braking and acceleration. Does that mean the master is bad or that they just aren’t bled properly or is there a whole different problem?
A small amount of fore/aft play is normal 1/8" -1/4" but not 3/4" to 1" If the brakes are bled correctly and the fluid is up you should be able to compress the actuator about 1/4" before it gets hard and begins to stop the wheels, the harder you compress the harder the brakes will expand/stop the wheel. Leaking lines will also cause this as the fluid is pushed out.
Thank you! There seems to be more play in it than that and the thud it makes is pretty bad. I am getting fluid out of the bleeders, but I can move the plunger fairly easily, more than 1/8”. At this point I am assuming the master cylinder is weak/bad and I’m need of replacement?
@@chadqueckboerner6423 The mastercylinder should not be easy to compress, time for a replacement
Bimini clip is cockeyed to the lines of the boat. Would drive me nuts every time I looked at it (OCD 😊) . Only takes a second to measure.
This video was great, referred back to it several times during my project. I would have e liked to have seen how you managed to cheat the distributor put by prying on it. I rented a slide hammer.
Very helpful video. Thank you.
Hey Ron ! Awesome videos. I been purchasing your stuff as well. I am looking to do this job on my ski boat as well. Wondering if you might know my specs it is a 1990 blue water pro am skier. With a 1” output shaft. Would you happen to know my sleeve bearing measurements ? Any guidance would help so I can order off your website :) @rontanis1024
Hey! thank you very much!!! Ive been fighting my jet drive reverse for years. throttle comes on in reverse pretty much as soon as it's pulled. Now I know how its supposed to look1
Excellent 'how to ' video. I knew what could happen to the gelcoat but had forgotten how to prevent it.
Sir, you are the Best Attention to detail. However, you need some maintenance on that stood you are sitting on. An Old Jarhead Marine from 1970 to 1990. {Sem Fi}
For those concerned about my squeeky wheels on my stool, they are that way on purpose...I can tell people are working instead of napping in the shop including me!
How do you keep the 5200 from drying out in the tube after you use it?
You don't it is cured with moisture (humidity) once un-sealed/opened you will be lucky to keep it usable past 2-3 weeks, shorter in high humidity areas. This is why we sell both the full size caulking gun tube & the smaller "tooth-paste" size tube.
By the way, I live on the lake, so my boat is rarely on a trailer. I run the boat before winterizing so that it’s warm enough for the thermostat to open…
The problem is on older boats you have now removed block plugs and manifold plugs so many times that these soft alloy plugs get flattened threads. I had to retap the threads in my block. All you have to do is remove the hose clamp from the hose that is pulling water from the lake, put it in a bucket of antifreeze, and let your engine pull antifreeze throughout your engine and cooling system. You then have antifreeze everywhere, including in the impeller pump, and you save your plugs and your engine block. My buddy has been doing it this way for 30 years, and I felt pretty stupid because I started having so many problems from removing and reinstalling plugs for so many years.
I am replacing a fabric snap on my gelcoat. Would I countersink the same size as the diameter of the replacement snap?
replacing a snap with a previously used hole? just use the old hole, if a new hole/location , yes countersink to avoid a crack.
@@rontanis1024 Original screw is loose and won't tighten. Should I drill hole 1.5x larger --> epoxy --> tap new hole with drill --> 4200 on screw then screw in?
@@andrewraczka1032 I would not drill a larger hole, the larger screw head may not fit into the snap. I would remove the screw, fill with epoxy, cure 24 hrs, redrill, add backer to the underside if possible.
@@rontanis1024 Thank you. So I will reuse the original screw and original hole. But I will epoxy the hole and blue tape on opposite side to keep from falling out.
Great how to video Ron. Going to replace the bearings on my 97 Volante this week. Hope to reduce the vibration. Randy
Be sure to aligne the shaft to the engine, this is a big MUS after changing the strut bearings
My warning light is staying on with my fuel gauge what would be causing this
Can anyone tell me if I need the quick connect adapter to replace the steering cable on my 91 ski Natique? I already have the steering cable but it looks just like the one in this video. I do not have a quick connect adapter and I cannot find a tutorial video specifically for a 91 ski.
If the old cable unthreaded then yes you will need the adapter
Thanks that video helped and explained lots does needle paint come in different colors
Prо
You need to lubricate the casters on your stool. 😂
The symptom that my boat had before encountering this problem was that it was emitting white smoke from the exhausts. White smoke can be mistaken for condensation, but if it comes out when it's sunny or after a while, this might be the problem. Thank you very much, Ron, for the great explanation.
Ron, you never cease to amaze me
Thank you so much. This has given me the confidence to try it myself
You found the problem right away. And I will say good video. BUT, retired marine tech here, I would have started at the gauge to make sure gauge is getting keyed power and ground to it. If Good then continue and ground out the gauge right then on the back, if good continue. Now ground out at sender, if gauge doesn’t move wires are bad, if gauge pegs its the sender. Doing it this way you are checking the complete system. What would you have done if the gauge didn’t move when you grounded it at sender, you would have had to do what I just described anyway. Think simple & thorough first.

Fantastic video. Presented very well
Nice video!! I think I need to do mine.
My boyfriend has a 496 mag bravo outdrive. I have had to remove debris from my motor more than once. I’m now looking at installing a thru hull with a strainer. My question is my stock raw water pump is a pain to change the impeller. Has anyone ever changed the pump to a type on this boat (PCM)?
If you have the room in front of the engine I would rather use the Johnson style crank driven pump, like on the Indmars, look to see if your lower pulleys have 3 bolt hole drilled & tapped for the bolts.
Thanks Ron from Australia. :)
Hi Ron, thanks for the informational content, very much appreciated. Do you have any additional information on Srut issues? I have seen a bunch of information on UA-cam around engine alignment, yours being one of the best, but I’m unable to find any detailed information on what steps or process you undertake to rule out a potential Strut issue.
Excellent !
How does this type of seal compare to ones using a carbon stator?
Just wondering... could the grease damage or degrade the seal?
NO, the seal is design to work with the grease
Great video, straight to the point and excellent advice. So many "youtubers" are some guy who's never done it before who babbles on for a half hour about his dog and his channel and stops to talk about every distraction to fill time, sprinkled with loud music and slow-motion shots of him opening a box. We need more creators like you!
Thanks we do our best...
Excellent video, thank you. In addition, quality connectors counts. Why people use cheap connectors Scotch Locks and other wire connectors, and don't even use dielectric grease, is confusing. Oxidative degradation of the connectors' plated coating leads to all sorts of problems down the road (or waterway).
