My only experience with Timpano has been midrange speakers (and even then they were just something I got a demo from and never actually used myself). I mostly hear of them more for stuff like that, but that doesn't mean their subs aren't still decent. That being said, I liked their speakers, for whatever that's worth. There's a pretty big difference between the power handling of those 2 subs you mentioned though, so my choice would be based on what amp you're gonna power them with. Do you have it already? Or have one in mind?

@@DaBadNewz kicker cxa-800.1. Remember, the sundown e12 is rated at 500 watts RMS but I bet it could handle 600-650 easily, sundown underrates. Timpano says, 1250 RMS, conseratively

You would be under-powering that Timpano by quite a bit with that amp. But it would also give you some room to grow if that’s something that you might want to do down the line. You would also never risk overpowering it, which is a nice plus.

Oh wow! You’re absolutely right! I mentioned everything around the clip light, but never actually included the clip light in the explanation. Definitely a mistake on my part that I will have to come back to! But in the mean time: The clip light is supposed to indicate when the signal coming from the head unit is too high (because of the gain setting on the amp). I kind of touched on this when I showed the illustration of the signal on the left side of the screen getting larger to match the signal on the right (around 3:56). Let’s call the signal on the right the “max.” If the signal on the left had kept growing it would reach the point where the signal was no longer round at the peaks because it would be past the “max,” which would put a flat top on that perfectly round wave. That flat top is the clipping, and the amp should be able to detect it. The main reason I neglected to include this info, is because tuning the amp the way I have described will eliminate the need to worry about clipping, (but I absolutely agree it would have been useful information to include). You’re getting ahead of me! The ideal situation is as you said, an actual enclosure for the speakers, mounted in/on the doors. I’m kinda baby stepping my way towards that. Trying to maximize my results each step of the way (partially just for my own understanding). As far as the mounts, I actually have a video featuring those getting made. I literally just traced the stock speakers (which were speaker/mount in one), and cut out my shape with a jigsaw. Nothing fancy over here! And thanks for the sub! Definitely appreciate that!

When using multiple speakers on a single channel, the only real difference is that you have to add those speakers together so you can think about the total load on the amp as if was a single speaker. (Since an amp doesn't know the difference between a single speaker or a bunch of them) As long as all the speakers on a particular channel are the same, the numbers are pretty straightforward. You would add the total RMS that each channel is going to need (or use 500 if the total is higher than that, since that's your amp's max), and then calculate it like I did. Example: (using made up numbers for easy math) Ch1 and 2: 100 rms speakers x 4 = 400rms. 400rms x 1 ohm = 400. Square root of 400 is 20. So for channel 1 and 2 you would want 20V AC on your multimeter (22.36 for 500 watts) If all 12 speakers are the same, channels 3 and 4 would actually have the same gain as 1 and 2, since it's half the ohm load and half the power. that would be one issue (unless you had some 300 rms tweets!), and the other issue would be the filter setting I have these at. The filter on the amp is set so that the frequencies running to these speakers are all below what a tweeter is made for. (So not only would they blow from the power, but there's also just way too much signal in general). You could still use them if you had crossovers or just hooked them up to the other channels on the amp (which is a more common way of doing it, and the way I'll be doing it when I get new tweeters). And dumbass questions are the ones you ask AFTER you fucked up. You're trying to skip the fuck up...sounds like a smart idea to me!

Yea it does a nice job! Definitely worth keeping in the car just in case

My homie Victor has actually painted some of his flat black! tbh I don't really think it's exactly the best for it (prone to cracking since the foil and butyl is still soft), but honestly not really that bad if it's out of the way. He pained the deadening on his a pillars and roof and it seems to be holding up pretty well (and that was without prep). They DO have some black stuff, but if you already have it installed that's not of much use. As far as walking on the foam, it's definitely not ideal...It will get "rashes" pretty easily. Even with the roller, if you happen to go a little sideways and not in the direction of the roll, it will leave some noticeable gashes in the foam. For something like a track car, it might not be too bad since it's not getting that daily wear and tear

@DaBadNewz do you know if they make any stick on material that's supposed to go on top of the foil sound deadening stuff? Like a really dense carpet? I'm not a car audio guy so I'm not too familiar with the products available these days like that black variety of sound deadening

tbh I'm not aware of any carpet type products, but there are various thicknesses and densities of foam and MLV (mass loaded vinyl) that usually go on top of deadening. But with stuff like the MLV, you're gonna very quickly get away from track car benefits (MLV is notoriously heavy). Sorry man! I'll definitely keep my eyes out for something like that

we have a gas station chain in the midwest that does free air at every station and it has the pressure set and forget thing too. Still smart to have a portable tire inflator and a portable jump start pack; I have one that works really well and the side benefit is I use it instead of jumping off my car for others in need as well.

@@zakuraayame5091 yea here in California the air at gas stations is free too, (it’s the law here). But yea definitely nice to have your own! What jumper do you have? Probably looking into one of those next.

That’s been a surprisingly common suggestion (that I never even considered). And while it might work, it’s not even worth it for my purposes tbh. Plus, the baffles would never fit around the new speakers anyway. I’ll be installing midbass speakers pretty soon in their own enclosure. Thanks for the suggestion though!

@mab4870 losing details in my hearing is definitely possible, but complete LOSS that soon at this little power is unrealistic. I’m an audio engineer, I know what I’m getting myself into. Again, thanks for the concern, but telling someone to abandon a hobby they are passionate about is just really distasteful. (Although I will acknowledge that you later adjusted your approach to wearing hearing protection, but that initial comment was not the tone necessary to make a sincere appeal to my self interest.

Thanks! I just noticed spray painting gets a bad reputation (mostly because of the abundance of poor paint jobs), and wanted to help people get the best results if they decided to go this route. For a quick lil update, work was done about 2 years ago, and other than a few spots that got banged up, the paint is still holding up super nice. Good luck on your project, and thanks for the sub!

Usually that's just a poor install. I see a lot of cars with LED headlight bulbs that don't have them aimed correctly. When that just happens, I just flash my high beams at them (and mine are usually much brighter)

I got kicker 10 inch bass tube with passive radiator. Going to be pushed with 500 watt at 2 ohms. I was thinking it was going to pound. You guys probably won’t be able to hear my lite sauce 4Runner sound system through the thick Marijuana smoke in my cab but inside the smoke column I think it’s going to sound great. Not even the finest weed known to man can make my stock 2007 blown out speakers with no amp sound great 💨 💨 💨
