These gen 2.5 Scion xBs tend to burn a lot of oil, which can create a build up in the throttle body, which can prevent the flap from moving freely or cause it to get stuck open or closed.
One quick way to fix this is to clean the throttle body by removing it and cleaning it with throttle body cleaner and a lint free rag.
This wont stop the throttle body from getting dirty in the future, this is really just a band aid, but it will at least get you back on the road to do something about whatever issue is causing your car to burn oil in the first place.

Great video, bro! Quick and to the point, i almost fell asleep watching another video that was 25 minutes. I have an 08 xB and when at a stop, my car vibrates a bit. It can't be my engine mounts because I just replaced those. I will tackle this job this weekend, wish me luck and thank you 🙏
The stutter from a dirty throttle body is a pretty distinct type of shake (it’s lukewarm the engine is starting to struggle). But yea if that’s happening to you, then this should at least help!
Good luck! Hit me if you have any questions along the way.
Been thinking about doing this. I have a 2012 and have a ruff idle
Very possible that this might help out! I’ve been running much smoother since cleaning it
Perfecto-> ty for just getting to point! Great video-> thanks for keeping it real
I try!! Hope it was helpful! Thanks for checking it out!
Thanks man mine burns oil
Nice tip, I'll get mine clean
Your video was really helpful
thanks man! hope it works out for you!
i also have a 2011 and I absolutely love my little toaster, thanks for the video!
Love mine too! Oil drinking problem and all. Thanks for watching!
Nice job! Mine idles a little rough and burns some oil too, might try this out
Thanks man! And yea it definitely helps, especially for the minimal time/effort it takes
Very cool! Did a search on rough idle scion xb and your video came up! Thank you for the tip and I liked and subbed! Cheers!!!!
Oh did it? That’s great news, glad my stuff is findable. More importantly, I hope the information does you some good.
Thanks for checking out my content and leaving feedback, and big thanks for the sub!
Damn im curious what the serious maintenance is too. I have the same model and cleaning the throttle was good, but damn i feel like got to buy a whole new throttle body.
There was a recall (that I didn’t even know about until it was too late). They swap out piston rings, gaskets, and I think maybe the pistons themselves. Gotta pull the whole engine n everything
And yea the clean up helps, but it definitely aint a “fix”
Awesome video!
Do you have a link for those hose clamps?
Thanks for reminding me! I definitely forgot to put that in the description.
Here it is:

maybe a dumb question but is removing the throttle body necessary to clean it? i’m a beginner in fixing my own toaster and she’s been giving me rough idle problems lately..
It’s not 100% necessary, but you WILL do a much better job if you take it off. I know it looks a little involved for a beginner, but it’s really a pretty straightforward job. The only thing is the clamps for the fluid lines. Without clamps you will make a little mess.
You CAN still get it maybe 60% of the way there without removing it though.
Good luck!
@@DaBadNewz definitely will be doing the whole process in this video + the fluid line clamps. thanks for the advice !😊
No problem at all, and good luck! If you get stuck or have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!
Love that intro
I appreciate that!!
Thank you! What are the other maintenance issues?
Tbh, the oil consumption issue that causes this is one of the main issues with these cars, otherwise they seem to be fairly decent
Did you figure out how to fix the oil issue?@@DaBadNewz
@smmaistheway I kinda already knew, it’s just a major undertaking so I haven’t got to it, but it seems like maybe I might wanna get on it sooner than later, it’s starting to get worse.
You have to replace the piston rings, and I think the pistons (but I don’t remember, I just remember it was a couple of things that needed to be swapped that called for the motor to be removed)
