Best thing about The Fall of the House of Usher was Mark Hamill's character. Oh, and T'Nia Miller's acting at the end of Victorine's life. Holy moly did that blow my mind. But The Pym Reaper stole that whole miniseries, as far as I'm concerned.

Peter Stormare's been a woefully unknown and underrated actor for decades. His appearances in Until Dawn also really sell a very important part of the game, and I don't know of any other actor who can *sound* quite like him

When the credits rolled on The Witch in the theater, there were several seconds where I was afraid to put my feet on the floor (I was sitting cross-legged) as though I was a little kid again and something was going to grab me. It's a brilliant film, and the removal of ambiguity from the devil's presence was delicious.

I would add Mephistopheles in ghost rider 1 too as a good depiction of devil! I just love the theatrics in it ✌️By far the most memorable devil depiction is in the WITCH, black philip is the GOAT 😅 Also Verna is not devil, she is a manifestation of death like in the deathly hallows story. [I always believed death is the doorway to heaven or hell, so she might be working with both the god & the devil, so an entity who is neutral]

Tim Curry’s depiction of the lord of darkness in the 1985 legend is my favorite. He’s seductive and impatient and evil. I loved his interactions with Lily. It’s really a wonderful film.

Ridiculous as it sounds, *The Devil From Da Bible* is my favorite version. Yes, the Sonic fandub joke depiction. Consider this: He's disarmingly sleazy and funny with his thick Boston accent and deadpan jokes. He acts like a clingy jealous friend and treats damnation as a game (encouraging Shadow to rack up "sin points). This is EXACTLY the persona that rebellious teens think Satan is like. A party guy with some fun edge. However, as the fandub progresses and Shadow remains independent and uncorrupted, The Devil From Da Bible gets less jovial and more angry. He eventually abandons all pretense of friendship and not getting his way prompts a ranting, foaming-at-the-mouth temper tantrum that wrecks the planet. I believe the devil is equal parts scheming false friend, cosmically powerful entity, and petulant egomaniacal manchild. Any persona he uses to interact with mortals is a tailored disguise. And if persuasion fails, there's actual terror in witnessing his true personality's mighty magic and narcissistic wrath. I seriously encourage looking up a compilation of The Devil From Da Bible's best moments. It's inexplicable how good of a depiction he is.

This is a great video. I really loved it...but I gotta say, if I were watching The Witch in the theater and someone cheered out loud when Black Phillip spoke.. let's just say I prefer to watch movies at home.

While not from a movie or show, Brennan Lee Mulligans interpretation of the devil (Asmodeus) in critical roles EXU calamity and Downfall is one of my favorite depictions of the devil in recent times. He genuinely makes both the players and audience believe that he is not as truly evil as people say he is and that he is in fact both trustworthy as kind. Until finally the other shoe drops and he reveals why he is the Father of Lies, with one of the most jaw dropping monologues I’ve heard in recent media. This is a devil that truly hates humanity on a personal level and yet we as the audience still find ourselves sympathizing with him. It’s fascinating and it’s why I genuinely recommend anyone to go give those two short campaigns a watch. While the videos are long (some of them 6 hour longs jeezz 😅) just seeing Brennans portrayal is absolutely worth it. Along with some pretty heart wrenching moments throughout with the other actors, who did an amazing job portraying what is essentially a disaster tragedy.

I knew The Wailing would be mentioned here. That movie is too good, and the ending is downright unnerving. The whole film feels evil.

I mean, I can be both misantropic and have empathy, can't I? I do hate most people, but I still feel bad when I see innocents suffering. It's a love-hate relationship with humanity, although I despise most humans, I still can't help but feel a sense of awe towards all of you, because humans have such creativity, both good and bad, such wonders to show and yet such horrors, the love-hate part stems from that, at one moment humans will create the most marvelous and astonishing things and at another they will create the most vile and despicable things. But despite all the atrocities, all the mistakes, all the misery, humans are still capable of such resilience, joy, selflessness and delight. There is a lot of woe but also a lot of awe. I'd much rather see all the bad days then to lose a single good one. The good ones are worth all the suffering and pain I have to witness. The bad days are the days that make me hate humanity, but the good ones are the days that make me not give up on it.

Can't help it, but since childhood one of my favorite "devils" has been Tim Curry as Darkness in "Legend". It was, of course, amazing makeup, but also just Tim Curry's acting. It left me confused because, crazy looking and scary, bad tempered and evil as he was....he was - Sexy!!! It definitely left me feeling a strange whirlwind of emotions as a child. As I've gotten older, I have a bit more mature idea of how I think the devil should be depicted, but still - Darkness has always stayed with me.😉🖤

My favorite interpetation of the devil (though not explicitly stated) is Mr Dark from Something Wicked This Way Comes. Though, i remember some of the film adaptation, it's the book i'm very familiar with. Mr Dark (again for all i know might not be the devil, but the similarities are cerainly there) is more of a force of nature, that comes once a year to grant people's desires with a grave twist. He always comes and opens a carnival full of evil attractions, and thrives as the literal definition of evil.

I love the character of Lucifer in Supernatural (at least in the show's original storyline, before the later seasons made him into... comic relief??) He's about as accurate to the classical descriptions of Lucifer as you can get. He was/still is an angel. He loves the earth and it's beauty, and he loved god and his fellow angels, but he has a delightfully spiteful, inferiority-complex driven, pure burning hatred for all mankind, the monkeys he was cast out of heaven for refusing to serve. Mark Pellegrino does an amazing job in the role, but the best moments are when Jared Padalecki plays Lucifer in Sam's body. He perfectly captures the seductive, egotistical, "I'm the good guy" fallen angel vibe of Satan.

While also brief, I appreciate the depiction in "The Devil's Nightmare" (1971). It's a sadly obscure genre gem but was recently restored.

Devil is a personification of the evil humans want to point a finger at when they cannot identify it otherwise. It makes evil seem comprehensible, easy to recognize and avoid. But like the devil itself, this is not really the case. In the Bible the word (ha)Satan means adversary, accuser, the opposing one. It's a title that can be generally used for anyone and anything, even god himself once in 1 Chronicles 21:1-2 by comparison to 2 Samuel 24:1-2. Lucifer, or rather the original word Haylel too is nothing more than a title. used for a king of Babylon and Jesus himself. There is no devil in the Bible outside of translations that use a later idea of a word that doesn't apply within the context of the scripture and when they were written. There is no devil outside of interpretation, outside of misunderstanding the scripture and its context. So what is devil then? A manifestation of a desire to give evil a face, to personify it so it can be accused, turned into an adversary that can be defeated. It is simplification, wishful thinking that evil could be so easily erased from existence. Evil is very human and many end up committing it because of opportunity, happenstance, circumstances outside of their control, because of their living environment, to survive, because they didn't know nor could know any better, et cetera. No one wants to think of themselves as evil, let alone capable of it, and yet the reasons behind evil are ones that could happen to anyone. It's easier to think evil is caused by someone else other than ourselves, it's easier to point a finger at a figure rather than a complex system of influences and forces that one is unable to control. Devil is a scapegoat that brings us comfort. Unless you're a follower of Zoroastrianism, then you can just blame Ahriman for everything, who is the main source of inspiration for the devil concept. There, added a punchline to the end so the text isn't completely dry.
