Jon Stewart on Why Men Are Leaving the Left with Richard Reeves & Annie Lowrey | The Weekly Show

This week, Jon Stewart is joined by Richard Reeves, President of the American Institute for Boys and Men, and Annie Lowrey, staff writer at The Atlantic. Richard's comment about Democrats saying they didn't run what would be defined as a "Woke" campaign means that they are asking people to forget the past 8-10 years was spot on. This kind of selective thinking is exactly what they accuse the Republicans of. Democrats have been hammering the "me too" message, telling men (specifically straight men) that they suck and that if you weren't on board with that message you weren't confident enough in your manhood to be a "real man". Then they wonder why men don't get excited about backing their candidates.

2020 Democratic Primary: Bernie is surging ahead, Warren is doing great, Pete is in the middle and Biden is trailing in last place. THEN EVERYONE MEETS BEHIND CLOSED DOORS and suddenly Biden is the candidate. Talk about THAT someday.

Because the left has gone psycho, woke, and is filled with unappealing weirdo people, who want to police speech, celebrate the ugly/grotesque...and just are just no fun. The type of people who scold you for laughing at a Married with Children joke. The left has totally lost touch with normal American men. Nobody wants to listen to these leftist social justice banshees anymore. They don't even know what an appealing candidate is anymore...they thought it was Tim Walz...a subservient, effeminate putz who "runs a mean pick 6". WHAT?🤣

I don't think the Democrats are being run by Democrats anymore. I think they are controlled by extremists that have largely pushed away the real Democrats away from the "Democratic Party." I think many of the real Democrats have joins the Republicans, or some other Party. Which means, what we see as who's left in the Democratic party are not pro America. SO, anyone left in the Democratic party, who are true Democratics, I don't think you know who's steering the ship. And no one seems to bother checking. Well. some do, and those are the ones who jumped ship before it crashes.

Daniel Sloss recently had a pretty good take on why the left is generally exhausting to be a part of. While not exclusive to men, I think it still applies. The gist is: If you are ideologically left, but have a single perceivable blemish of character the left will tell you to go join the rest of the Nazis. The right's attitude is: you don't hate everyone yet? Well, you'll learn, welcome aboard here's your hat.

My experience as a berniecrat turned MAGA over the past decade: "You're terrible for existing, and must accept guilt for the original sin of being a male" "Sex positivity is only for women and LGBTQ+ because your sexuality is evil because it's not like ours." "The Force is Female" "The Future is Female" "You don't like us destroying all your hobbies and sense of escapism by wearing them as a skinsuit to do self inserts and talk down to you with our hamfisted identity politics? You're a bigot." "Male suicide rates are skyrocketing, college attendance is drastically low? Oh, you have a victim complex. Stop going to job fairs and masquerading as non-binary to get work. Scholarships are for women only because of the glass ceiling despite males disappearing from the work force in significant numbers." I could go on. I never finished college because it felt like a struggle session, and I needed to make money. I had a successful period as a self taught network engineer who got his certs, and feigned queer because I would watch HR ladies make any heterosexual male with t levels above 400 life miserable. I've seen guys get reported for sexual harassment just for saying hi or complimenting a new haircut. After I got laid off during the pandemic, I got tired of dealing with that. Instead I weaponized my autism for trading full time, and spent the last half decade unemployed, but have made more money than I would have working after manosphere and right wingers in general kept offering me the same plate of cookies they have since 2017 or so. Right wingers make videos telling you how to make money, how to become a capitalist, deprogramming you from the Keynesian retardation. When that happen, and you actually understand finance and economics, it's akin to being presented with empirical evidence. The left lost of the economic populists of the left to people like Peter Schiff who has been trying to figure out how to break into millennial minds since Occupy Wall Street. This stuff isn't rocket science. If the left refuses to take a hard look in the mirror and accept that they have not only ignored men, but have been actively hostile towards them for the past decade, then they'll continue to lose. The right got smart, and it built a community for men who've been left out in the cold by an increasingly elite and anti-male regressive left. They're so busy trying to force their ideology on everyone, focusing on abolishing gender, trying to codify gendert affirmation into law, supporting being co-opted by corporations, etc. The left doesn't need to become 2016 neo-liberal centrists, but they need to figure out how to come to grip with their androphobia.

I was out to lunch with a progressive friend of mine and brought up the topic of males, specifically white males, being ignored/rejected by society as pariahs. Her response pretty much summed it up how the democratic party feels about them these days: "they had their time". My jaw hit the table. Identity politics have set up a pecking order in their "new order". Black females and the Trans community are fighting for the top spot right now. The 3rd spot would probably be anyone who is not straight, purely gay, or purely lesbian. 4th place would be the traditional gay/lesbian community. 5th is probably black males. After that, democrats just pander to the remaining groups when they need votes or protesters to back their cause. Women get pandered to with abortion rights, yet Obama could have easily signed it into law. He chose not to. Why? Resolving the issue by making it law would ruin democrats' #1 "get out the vote" campaign. It works far better by dangling that carrot out there, even though they have zero intent of giving it to them.

Young men are notoriously ill-informed and often exercise extremely poor judgment. It goes with the hormones. Middle-aged men are often engaged in an all-consuming drive for financial success that often clouds their judgment. The percentage that make it to old age with their empathy intact is probably 50/50, generously.

As a male the past four years i have felt that i was born evil just gor being a male. Ive seen feminist commenting kill all men and abort all male babies. Are there bad men, yeap and there are bad women. No gender is perfect, but women seem to think they do no wrong. And I'll point out that a lot of women are rewarding bad boys and fbois. All while saying where are the good men.

As a 30 year old male…we are too broad in judgments on being a right leaning person. Voting for Trump shouldn’t label me a racist or sexist or nazi. Abortion was not banned. It was left for the states to decide. More state power is what he’s going for. The huge issue I see though is working in corporate America I’m being forced to consider labeling myself as gay, non binary, etc since I’m a white male. I’ve seen several people get roles in the name of diversity over talent. IMO DEI has gone too far. If you’re a white male, you are at a disadvantage even though I grew up in a poor household with no professional network. Rural America is struggling and has massive issues with drugs. Things are not fine in a lot of America. While I don’t think Trump will solve this, it will be an opening for Dems next go round. Run on UBI, daycare subsidies, and get rid of student loans.

This is why I don't understand, that the Democrats still think that there are still Reagan Republicans out there for this election. I think they were gone and/or compromised since Trump first got elected. And I see this from opinions by Meghan McCain on the View back than, all the Lindsey Graham of Senates, Evangelical support, and other Republican's political pundits online and on TV. However they tried to portray that they are the good republicans, they just like winning. And the fact that they are still on their seats with the help of Trump, it shows where the Republican voters stand.

Not from the US, but I am a young man in my late 20's that has always and will always vote for the left because I know they try to make things better, even if right now my issues aren't the ones being addressed, while the right just pretends to give a shit but never have and never will. I don't feel seen of heard, not by politicians anyway, and I certainly don't have the money or posses the level of stupidity to invest in crypto or NFT's. I have struggled with mental health and still do, I have been going to therapy to try and work on myself for years, I have had some very dark thoughts in the past but luckily things have improved to the point where I no longer have those thoughts. I have felt isolated and without purpose, like there is no future for me in education or a career, like the world that we are living in won't have a future that I would want to subject any future children to. I am smart enough to know that the right doesn't give a shit about me, either don't realize that, or they are so desperate for someone to care that they are willing to set aside their convictions and vote for them, as much as I think there isn't even a contest and the left is the better choice they absolutely fail to address those problems. Giving a shit about men's issues has somehow been dismissed as misogyny, why? Am I blaming women for my issues? No. Do I think women's should be subservient to men? No. Do I think women should have equal rights to men? Yes. Be paid fairly and equally? Yes. Have the right to make decisions about their own bodily autonomy? Yes. Do I think women should be subjected to sexual and domestic violence and harassment? No, obviously not. Why is it that any time men try to talk about their issues the answer is always "women have it worse, shut the fuck up". This isn't some binary thing, we can try and work on more than 1 thing at a time, and doing something for 1 group doesn't mean you are inflicting something bad on the other. it's why the comment of "I will say women have not felt necessarily addressed for a pretty long time" felt especially tone deaf because it goes to the root of that problem, this isn't some 0 sum game. I am disappointed with this episode, I had hoped Jon might be willing to have an open mind and listen. Because I feel like he has done so on many other legitimate issues. I hope they will take that on-board and try to have a legitimate discussion about it in the future, and I hope that left wing political parties the world over consider taking these issues more seriously and try to reach out to the men that are struggling, because millions are very unhappy, and hundred's of thousands end their life as a result every year.
