This is truly the best thing I have listened to since Election Day. Two very smart people, breaking things down and sharing their gift of analysis with the rest of us. Jon, please keep shining your light. Dr. Heather, I have been a fan since 2016 and you always, always help me through. I learn so much from you. This is coming from a 70-year-old female who is really struggling with the outcome of this election. Thank you to both of you so very much.

When in doubt, assume that the dumb population was tricked by the opponent. There is no way anyone who disagrees with you could be smart. They must have been fooled by disinformation.
I am only 15 minutes in and there is absolutely zero consideration that the left is wrong about anything except how much more foolish America is than they thought they were. The hubris is absolutely stunning.

Did they break them down though? Would you see something like this on fox news? I don't think their public would stand for it, and yet they are the most watched cable channel. So how do we bridge this disconnect? This kind of conversation is too boring and complicated for too many in our society. This is our demise due to our advance. Our technological advance has allowed us to create too many information alternatives, too fast! Therefore, now it's a matter of echo chambers. The United States is becoming too uneducated for democracy.

This is mostly BS. She's describing at most a 3rd of those that voted for Trump. But, that third is also the most in powered by his win. The remaining 2/3rds are disillusioned by elites and this manifests as anti-vaxxer, anti-big pharma. When it comes to the economy the Democrats failed at defending those in the administration like Lina Khan and painting the picture of how the working class mainly the trades were used to over stimulate the economy, real estate, and manipulate prices/rents. People need to be shown, with quality of life benefits, that slow and steady wins the race. Or, we'll just get more of the same, race to the bottom, with things like Opportunity Zones and tax cuts that may show short term gains for the working class but inevitably just work toward consolidation of wealth and power.

YEAH but she also starts with one of the GREATEST LIES BEING TOLD with saying how great the economy is.
YES the economy is good for some and for some its insanely fantastic BUT for massive slab of the population ITS NOT GOOD ITS A DISASTER.
When she says that 80% are on better wages WHAT DOES THAT ACTUALLY MEAN?
Anyone can get a 10% pay rise but if prices go up by 20% then you're NOT better off your worse off.
So saying 80% are getting higher wages is meaningless unless there's some detail on other things
In 2022 Bernie Sanders had the Congressional Budget Office do a report on on family wealth. (its easy to find).
If you just look at the first graph you can see how the Top 10% of America has done incredibly well and the Middle 40% have done Ok. HOWEVER the Bottom 50% have gone *NOWHERE* for the last 35+ years. This is part of the frustration Trump has tapped into.
I'm Australian and our data is similar. I watch a British Economist named Gary Stevenson and he says the same is happened in Britain. this is what populists are tapping into across Europe and the rest of the developed World and economists keep harping on about how great the stock market is doing or how wages are up WHILE THEY IGNORE WHAT PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY EXPERIENCING.

I'm 59, black, male, I think this subject was very well spoken on. But missed the point.
Money in Politics have taken away our ability to pick our candidates!!
Nobody on either side has done anything to correct this correctible issue.
The Democrats don't know how to talk to its base.
The Republicans don't care at all.
Because Corporations pick the candidates and subject matter we fight on.
    And Crap falls downhill.
Thats why Americans have been screwed over for so long.
Take money out of Politics, make Tv and the Internet that serve PEOPLE, have time for real politicians during certain voting periods and it be free.
Make things that are said suable like in The European Union if untrue.
I'm independent and instead of having a two-year period and billions of Dollars spent on national elections.
Set a legal limit for spending.
Set up a selection process that all except the sitting President has to go through that if you do not get a percentage of the vote, you can no longer run for the Office.
By August of that voting period we could be down to 2 or 3 viable candidates.
I believe some states and cities of this county already do this and it should be nationalized.
What was said today to breakdown this past election in itself is a problem.
I'm old enough to remember a descent RETIREMENT PLAN.
401 k was an amendment to the plan now it is the Plan.
There is no ETHICS to save.
What are we going to do next?
How do we use the same tools they used against us against them?
I voted for Kamala Harris, didn't care for her at all.
But knew she was the safer choice!
Amy Klobucher for me was the Correct choice for the Democrats Vice President, another Blown choice.
She would have covered almost every base and the Blue Wall!!!
I understood this, why didn't her people get this?
Classism in The Democratic party is real, People notice it and it's a turn off, for voters, that is the number one reason the races are close.
People are PISSED and I hope during my lifetime a real revolution in thinking that is about the ***WE*** and not just about being upper class.

I had a close friend in Sweden who shared insights about your systems and values. From what I learned, I was truly moved by the humanity embedded in your policies-a striking contrast to what we have here. I’ve spent time in a few European countries and always admired how they prioritize people’s well-being, which feels like something we’ve lost or never had. Now, with Trump and a Republican sweep, we’re veering so far from empathy and progress that it’s hard to comprehend.
I genuinely wonder what Europe thinks right now. I hope both your politicians and citizens make their criticisms clear. There’s a strange notion here among MAGA that the rest of the world respects Trump, not Biden or Harris; they believe only Trump’s return could restore America’s image globally. But it seems obvious to the rest of us of us that it is the opposite and that this path damages our relationships and erodes the global respect we’ve worked for. I can only hope Europe and other allies speak out, speak loud & hold us accountable because we’re at a point where international voices might be the only ones strong enough to challenge the direction we’re heading.

Flawless? I think saying Biden "got rid of neoliberalism" is an extremely terrible flaw, because as he promised his wealthy donors before the election of 2020, "nothing would fundamentally change" for them, their standard of living would never change. That is the very epitome of neoliberalism. And while he gave us some scraps that resembled FDR (because of Bernie Sanders' influence - another fact left out of Heather's status quo rhetoric), nothing fundamentally changed. And that is why we are in this sh*t show we're in right now. And nothing will ever change for the middle and working class if we keep praising people for lying about it.

    • @strawberrychaos73
      @strawberrychaos73 12 днів тому

Flawless would be actually talking about how Biden adopted Bernie Sanders' working-class messages in the 2020 election, because the corporate Democrats saw that success. Flawless would not be lying about neoliberalism, which NEVER went away during Biden's presidency.

    • @strawberrychaos73
      @strawberrychaos73 12 днів тому

Flawless would not be selective amnesia about Biden telling wealthy donors, "Don't worry, nothing will fundamentally change" for them. That their standard of living wouldn't change. That is the very epitome of neoliberalism: catering to the wealthy class, privatization, free trade. None of that changed.

Same reply I had for another person
HOWEVER the Bottom 50% have gone NOWHERE for the last 35+ years.

I'm Australian as well. If they had focused on providing equal access to opportunity, they would have won in a landslide. For example, good public education, universal healthcare, social housing, early intervention programs etc. However, social media poses a huge challenge due to misinformation. Labor introduced many policies this term that would be considered 'radical' in the US, yet they are getting hammered in the polls for not going far enough. The age of disinformation has well and truly arrived.

I’ve had dozens of conversations with people my age in their 40s and younger, who get their healthcare through the affordable care act through the healthcare marketplace and think that they are against Obama. They are so wildly misinformed and that’s where a Democrats miss the mark, harris should’ve been on podcasts like Theo Von and Joe Rogan, so she could speak to the millions of morons that tune in. Jon - great show today, what a great guest to bring on at a time like this! I could listen to Heather forever. As a Canadian I was mortified that America would actually re-elect someone so obviously a threat to the country but as Heather points out the factors that have led to this have been working for some time and, of course, the right wing propaganda machine has been successful at getting people to fear the wrong things. The situation is dire for sure, but as Heather suggests, the only way out of it is through it. Providing a meaningful forum for intelligent discussion is now even more vital. Its been a tough couple of days (yes, even for a Canadian!) but listening to you and Heather for the past hour has buoyed my spirits and left me feeling that not all is lost.

What? Her thinking is exactly why we keep losing elections. Don't point your finger at me that I'm not as pro LBGTQ as you think I should be. That is a demographic that does not procreate to make more Dem voters. While I support that community, we need is to grow votes. I am certain that I made more phone bank calls to support Ms. Harris than either of these 2 combined. Elites, please depart the life raft, as well as your celebrity endorsers.
IT'S NOT WORKING. We lost to "They're eating the dogs, cats." ARE YOU KIDDING ME. This is not working 2 out of 3 general elections with "Garfield, The Apprentice?"
Sure elites, let's blame it on "dumb voters" since our message can't attract a "dumb voter". I'm getting sick and tired for volunteering for a losing team. Imagine if ouR party had ALL THE celebrity endorsements and NO VOLUNTEEERS. We are becoming the last helicopter out of Viet Nam.
At least Mr. Stewart is still making money. So we have that going for us. Which is nice. FML

While I’ve been worried about the state of things/the world for awhile, I had hope that maybe our neighbours to the south would see the danger that Trump represented. I think that Canadians need to pay more attention to Canadian politics than they do(even as someone who has issues with him, the number of Canadians who blame Trudeau for things that are handled by the provincial governments is frustrating) if they don’t want to be led down a similar path. While I have a hard time finding any bright side to events this week, the recent election down south may have one unexpected side effect for Canadian voters. If the Trump government is even half the train wreck a lot of people expect it to be, it may just scare Canadians from wanting to risk the same here(after all, few Canadians want to give up their belief of “at least we’re not as bad as the US”). It might be one of the few positives if you can call it that(and there aren’t many) to what’s happening there. I still would have preferred the alternative, but gotta work with what we’re given.

@galcast7699 The way I had been describing it to people is a fundamental difference in what’s deemed important. For instance, Innocent until proven guilty is supposed to be a key element of the justice system, but many don’t grasp why. I’ll ask people which they’d prefer or dislike more…Would they be more angry if for every 20 people going to jail, 1 was innocent of any crime, or for every 20 criminals, 1 was able to escape any punishment and get away with their crime? The truth is for many people the idea of a guilty person getting off Scot free enrages them far more. And while you can try to argue “what if you were that innocent person?”, when you’re targeting groups like immigrants or minorities that you aren’t a part of, it becomes even easier to ignore any empathy when they feel relatively certain that they wouldn’t/couldn’t be that innocent person themselves. They’ll gladly offer up that innocent homeless person as a modern human sacrifice if it means getting every last criminal and thus feeling safer. I’m not sure how you counter against that.

But when I hear this common sense information on MSM it seems like everyone is treating this like its a just a normal Election where both sides disagree ,and we can still have some control, but as we've seen he's attached himself to Heritage Foundation to tear the Government apart , and can even get the Supreme Court to say our choices don't really matter or we have no say now. It's as if we're paying them to order us around and take away our rights. This is no ordinary election where you have a party that wants to pull us out of NATO, and end the Constitution. It's makes us more vulnerable and its far more dangerous. I don't believe we can brush this under the table and it will just all play out fairly. They've even granted him full immunity .
