I would love for details about this hard left anti-Semitism. I really want to hear that substantiated. So sick of pro-Palestinian being equated with anti-Semitism.
Conservatism as the name says is conserving something. What is that for young people? The house they cannot afford? The job they hate because they never appreciate them, underpay and overwork them? The partner they cannot afford? The family they can't afford? The Democracy which is not helping them? What do you think they want to conserve?
This is what I've been thinking this whole time! Conservatism is just a useless ideology when the status quo is as low as it is. Change is absolutely necessary!
Uh…being AntiZionist is being antisemitic. Younger gen has been fed this term without proper understanding of its meaning. Being Anti-Zionist is to say you think the nation of Israel should no longer exist. You’re conflating opposition to the Netanyahu regime with a term that says the country should be literally wiped off the map. “From the river to the sea” means the same thing. This is why older people say you’re being antisemitic. Because you are even if you don’t realize you are. There’s a lot of people who are antisemitic using opposition to the atrocities that Netanyahu is committing to get people thinking in antisemitic terms and ways. This is like calling a black dude a hard r Nword because you don’t know any better.
I see lots of people who claim NOT to be anti-semites marching with Hamas and Hezbollah oriented groups, chanting for the destruction of the US and Canada, the destruction of Israel, and doing things like threatening Jews living in Canada and the US, shooting up synagogues, shooting up Jewish owned businesses, daycares, etc. I don't believe the claim that they are simply anti-Zionists but NOT anti-semite. Anyone who actually has friends who are Jews understands there's often a HUGE difference between Jews living outside of Israel and those living within it. Heck, even WITHIN Israel, there are millions of Jews who don't like what Israel is doing. In some ways, this isn't that different from the amount of abuse American and Canadian Muslims underwent following 9/11, where it was assumed by a segment of the population that just because they were Muslims, they were automatically aligned with T's.
Here’s the sticking point people on the left get tripped by. They’ve been told being anti-Zionist is a good thing, but what that means is you’re for wiping Israel off the map as a nation. “From the river to the sea” is referring to the River Jordan and the Mediterranean Sea. AKA the borders of Israel. “From the river to the sea Palestine will be free” means no more Israel. So yeah, the online left has been antisemitic. I give most of the people using these terms the benefit of the doubt that they genuinely do not know they are doing so because they don’t understand the terms and are copying saying and slogans used by people they see as also opposing the Netanyahu regime’s military atrocities. However, the things they’re saying are supporting the idea of wiping out nearly 10 million people and erasing Israel from existence. That’s not line with a two state peace solution.
Horseshit. Leaders in the Democratic party are criticized constantly from within the party, and then there's an incredibly loud argument between those who support the leader and who don't. Do better.

Why? I love Kamala, want her to win, but she's in campaigning mode and therefore can't risk saying anything we haven't already heard her say. Whether a company pays a higher rate for work past a 40-hr. week shouldn't be a public policy question. Government should make sure that corporations pay compensation to the people when natural resources are extracted, pollution emitted or wildlife habitat disturbed or destroyed. If the people at large were recognized as the rightful owners of natural resources, people would have income separate from wages. If the time demands of their job are too severe, they could leave the job without facing a threat of becoming destitute. The value of natural wealth is estimated at about $50 per day for every person on Earth. Sharing natural wealth would mean a more dynamic labor market and people could be more selective about what job they accept.
OMG, the online left! They must be stopped at all costs! Oren, please remind me how many seats the online left holds or what Democratic policies they dictate. One example would be enough Oren! Sorry, I can not take this person seriously in any shape or form!
It's not all the "online left". Many of us are horrified by the anti-semitism being demonstrated by people who we otherwise agree with on many other topics.
This is what I’ve been wondering. No matter what happens, Trump is not going to be around much longer. So the question is what comes after him? Is there someone who will be able to carry on MAGA? I don’t know that there is, given that nobody else in the party seems to have both his conviction and charisma, and the fact that a large chunk of the party is going to be more than happy for him to be gone. Also, question for Jon if I may: how sick are you of people saying you should run for President?
The core philosophy of Conservatism has always looked the same sense the days of Edmund Burke. A belief in a transcendent order, an affection for the "variety and mystery" of human existence, a conviction that society requires orders and classes that emphasize natural distinctions, and a belief that property and freedom are closely linked. Edmund Burke thought that capitalism should remain subordinate to the conservative social ethic and that the business class should be subordinate to aristocracy. He insisted on standards of honor derived from the medieval aristocratic tradition and saw the aristocracy as the nation's natural leaders. Burke ultimately justified the social order on the basis of tradition: tradition represented the wisdom of the species, and he valued community and social harmony over social reforms. However I think we see the GOP go from libertarian conservatism to authoritarian conservatism. Authoritarian conservatism is a political ideology that seeks to uphold order, tradition and hierarchy like Chiangism in China, Metaxism in Greece and Francoism in Spain. Also Carl Schmitt advocated for authoritarian conservatism. He was a political theorist in the NAZI party. Carl Schmitt was mainly arguing for a dictatorial presidential power who could step outside the rule of law under a state of exception. Authoritarian conservatism share many things with fascism but are not revolutionary in nature like fascists are. Edmund Fawcett explains the difference between fascism and authoritarian conservatism as follows: Fascism, to schematize, is a form of totalitarianism. It imposes control on every aspect of the state, society, economy, and cultural life. It works through a single party with an all-embracing ideology commonly under a charismatic leader claiming to speak for the people. Its enemies are pluralism and diversity. Fascism stifles opposition by violence and fear and stabilizes itself by mobilizing popular engagement. Authoritarianism, by contrast, allows independent economic and social bodies, forms of limited representation, and a degree of freedom of religion. Its enemy is democratic participation. It also stifles opposition by violence and fear but stabilizes itself by relying on passive acquiescence in a trade-off of social quiet for loss of political role. The fascist is a non-conservative who takes anti-liberalism to extremes. The right-wing authoritarian is a conservative who takes fear of democracy to extremes.
It would not surprise me if the next GOP face being fought by the Rino right is Vivek Ramaswami. He's been doing the podcast rounds.. might be fun to get him on your show Jon.
