      This was an older video, so I watched it again and not sure what temps you go for, but cook them the way you like them. We did show the temps on these and before it was done searing we showed the temp at 125F degrees and know this rested to 130F. Rare is 125 and medium rare is 135 and I mentioned this was at the low end of medium rare. Not close to raw! I am not a chef, but I do let the temp probes tell me when it is the way we like them. Thanks for watching! Cheers!

    Great looking chicken. However, that drip pan is too big. It is affecting the airflow causing the actual smoke to back into your hopper. I noticed the same problem when I put too much foil below while doing ribs. You're getting the heat but not the smoke. I only use a small drip pan now for whole chickens and butts.

    • @beers-jackofbbq
      @beers-jackofbbq 25 днів тому

      Appreciate that advice!! I was always wandering about that smoke and will try smaller pans! I had a good fire in the past and I clean the bottom almost every time so went with an overall size pan! Cheers!

      I did mention that it rose to 120F before we started to sear, but I didn’t do a good job on showing me probe this to verify the temps. This finished around 128 and was between rare and medium rare. Cheers!

      Monument really makes some nice grills and a reasonable price! This is the third one I have tested for them and still use the original one for my personal use. My son in law is getting this one when we are done shooting videos. Cheers!

  • @tonys602
    @tonys602 27 днів тому

    I know this video is a little old but I’ve been researching reviews of the grill grates and every video is of people just creating grill marks, there great to look at but do nothing to flavor the steak. I almost scream at every video trying to tell the people to turn the damn grates over and do an actual sear😂. Thanks for this video, you may have convinced me to give the grates a try👍

    • @beers-jackofbbq
      @beers-jackofbbq 26 днів тому

      I am 100% with you on the grill marks. I care about the taste, not the look! I actually bought them just to use the flat side and have never used them any other way! Appreciate your wisdom! LOL Cheers!

  • @jimdent351
    @jimdent351 29 днів тому

    I bought the same grill in May of 2023. Fast forward almost a year and the table on it is beginning to rust. I understand how that can happen along the edges of the metal because they're harder to get a sufficient amount of paint, but this rust is forming right on large flat sections of the table. There are 3 spots. The one is about the size of the palm of my hand and the other 2 are about 1/2 the size

    • @beers-jackofbbq
      @beers-jackofbbq 28 днів тому

      I would contact them about the issue. I had mine for a few years before I gave it to my son in law, but as far as I know, never had a rust issue. Good luck to you! Cheers!

    • @beers-jackofbbq
      @beers-jackofbbq Місяць тому

      Thanks! Reverse sear is my favorite way to cook a thick steak. For me, these were too thin and they only took about 5 1/2 minutes to finish the one and 6 minutes for the other one and it was a touch too done for us. I felt a reverse sear would have over cooked these? Appreciate the question as I am always learning what other people do! Cheers!

    I’m almost done grilling a whole picanha using your video as a guide. Very clear and easy instructions to follow. The end result looked delicious! Thanks!

    What’s the point of spinning? Why not just flip?

      This is called the cold grate technique and if you do not like grill marks, this method works great. I am not a fan of the grill marks and like the method for that reason. Cheers!

    Mine is coming tomorrow and I can’t wait! Did you season your grill before use? And if so, what was your process?

    • @beers-jackofbbq
      @beers-jackofbbq 2 місяці тому

      I didn’t do an actual seasoning, but I do put a load of charcoal in and play with the vents to understand some of temperatures settings will do and then open the vents and let it go until the charcoal is done to burn off any oils on the grill. Enjoy! Cheers!
