2023 AlumaCraft Competitor FSX 185 (One Year Review & Walkthrough)
Decided to do a review and walkthrough vid of my boat that we purchased for last summer. It’s a 2023 Alumacraft Competitor FSX 185 with a 150 Yamaha. In the video I show you the features of the boat, things that I did or put into it… as well as list pros and cons of boat itself. Hope you enjoy!

    This thing.... I used it once for like 10 minutes and when I needed it most I was trying to light the pilot for a half hour. Redundancy is key. I'll be attaching a long screw driver, alcohol wipes and q tips on the side for this B.S. Also another heater. 😅

      Trust me, I know the feeling… also disclaimer, I think they might just struggle to work when it gets certain temp below zero… I try to keep in truck on way to lake so it doesn’t get too cold to light if it’s really freezing out. But, this cleaning the igniter method has helped me more than once so far. Good luck 😅

He said to me that the earliest his new stuff would come out would be July, so we will see. I have seen pics of the new stuff and it looks to be of great quality. As for the older Summit stuff, sorry I can’t help you with that and have heard from others of the older shuttle being a mess and not fun to deal with haha. I have been using an actual transom saver mounted on trailer to lower unit 39 years on same boat . New boat 2023 Alumacraft Voyageur has a Shorelander custom trailer with a Shorelander transom saver . Dealer saying you may damage lower by using what was designed by factory is very questionable at best . Hydraulic saver is the correct term for what you have . • @JMonOutdoors
      @JMonOutdoors 19 днів тому

      You’re welcome… thanks for compliment and for watching, I appreciate it! As for your questions, I think they are very comparable but have the exact same issues if any arise… so why spend that much more just for the name?! The buddy that rigged my battery and fuse box stuff, said he now likes the Alumacrafts better in comparison to the impact XS, thinks they are better built and value. I personally think they are very similar and like I said in the vid, bought my lithium batteries from Amped and my trolling motor… and then some… for the cost difference of Lund. I didn’t want to be forced to get Mercury either, wanted a Yamaha… also in comparison to Lund… you can get up to 175 HP for Alumacraft if you want and only to 150 for the Lund. Hope I answered what you wanted, but I love this stuff, so if you have more, don’t hesitate to ask. 👍🏼

      Haha that’s a great sized Bass 😉😅. Especially when targeting panfish and catch them by surprise, they really battle then!

      Oh yeah, they love going fishing. I feel like starting them young as possible makes them more likely to keep going in the future! But also having patience and keeping it fun for them as a parent too.

    Here is the perfect solution to the problem: 1. Turn off the knob, 2. Remove the propane bottle, 3. With thumb and fingers extended and joined place your left hand under the unit and with the right hand grab the handle, 4. Take the unit outdoors to expose it to the elements, 5. Open the garbage can and toss it in aggressively (be sure not to harm any children or animals and not harm the ozone or whales).

      😂🤣🤣. Someone is expressing frustration with the Buddy Flex I see, I hear you… I’ve almost been to that point a couple times… especially the first time when I basically took the whole thing apart. But cleaning the igniter has helped me everytime now (knock on wood)

    How do you hold it down on the front deck to keep it from flying out of boat?

    • @JMonOutdoors
      @JMonOutdoors 3 місяці тому

      It’s pretty heavy, I haven’t worried about it flying out of the boat. I don’t have it on my front deck either tho. I have it in the cockpit area with me.

      Well that sucks to hear! This tip isn’t a cure all, but it helps some. At the start of ice season… I tried starting this same heater and it wouldn’t light… cleaned the igniter again and it fired right up after, didn’t have any issues all ice season.

    This is a real problem with these heaters. It is ridiculous - poor construction! Some people just use an aircan to blow air into igniter area (without taking it all apart) and seems to work in most cases.

    • @JMonOutdoors
      @JMonOutdoors 4 місяці тому

      That actually works? Cool. But I’d rather use the alcohol pad to wipe everything down and know it’s for sure cleaned. I agree with the problems it has and construction of it isn’t the greatest. I’m satisfied with my use of it this ice season, worked on the cold days I needed it.

      @@davidmurphy5640 I hear ya, I just think it’s that sensitive that if it gets debris or dust buildup on it and doesn’t get cleaned, it gets finicky. Wish they would make one that wasn’t so finicky or touchy, maybe that can be a guys invention and retire 😂
