    Jackson Prison has been known as The Big House for generations. When Keith Jackson, the late college football announcer, was calling a game in Ann Arbor, he referred to the stadium as " the big house". The name stuck. I still snicker to myself when I hear it. The name stolen from the worlds largest walled prison.

    I stopped there once and had a very different take. It was a Sunday and it was raining. I was in a motorcycle and quickly found everything downtown is closed on Sunday. Was seeking shelter under an awning and we were approached by an old women who appeared to be on hallucinogens or had used too many in the past. The showed us her ass tattoo within a minute and then proceeded to proposition us for sex. Once we got her to leave us alone there was literally a group of juggalos walking down the street shouting obscene shit. Rain or not we decided to GTFO and ended up stick in Kalamazoo and slept in hooters parking lot.

    I just watched Black Robe last night. I always wondered if Saint Maria among the Hurons was the basis for the place that they went to in the movie.

    • @RestlessViking
      @RestlessViking 3 дні тому

      Good thought. I believe Black Robe was historical fiction. Although it was shot in Quebec the story then goes to the missions in Huronia - which St. Marie among the Huron was the main mission as far as I know. But, they never really mention it specifically in the movie.

    • @howdyahworkthisthing1520
      @howdyahworkthisthing1520 3 дні тому

      @Yes, that and the distance from Quebec City (about 1500 miles), by canoe. That sounds almost right, as it’s almost 1000kms by modern road. 👍🏻 Yes, I choose to believe that Saint Marie among the Hurons was the destination in the movie.

    My father was considered an Enemy Alien, grew up in western Wayne county. He was a carpenter and worked on several government projects including the Romulus camp and the Fort Custer camp. One camp had older more mature prisoners while the other had younger kids. My great aunt would get on a train in Detroit and travel to Virginia to visit cousins that were being held there. My father turned 100 this past June, became a citizen in 1945 when he turned 21.
