- The Mysterious Disappearance of MSgt Wyman. The story is more than a mysterious disappearance. He survived a plane crash, left a note, then disappeared. A sad and crazy story.

What an incredible story of a man who was always thinking of others, a man of integrity. Your words made me feel that I was there. Thank you for the work that went into your film.
Another fabulous Restless Viking story.
Whoa! Tough choices to make for sure for MSgt Wyman. As a Life Member of the United States Lighthouse Society, I love your lighthouse stories. Keep 'em shining!
Well presented perspective, without superficial drama.
Appreciated!
😹👍 Yer doin' it wrong mate! Where is the sensationalism? Where is the hyperbole? Where is the repeating/recapitulation/statement of the same handful of facts and scant solid data six or eight times to stretch five minutes of content into a 42 minute programme?!
Seriously though, Bravo Zulu sir.
Sad story. On a happy note you are a very good story teller and speaker Chuck.
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing this story and adventure.
Thank you for this story. my sister found it and forwarded it to me. I have known and heard about this story my whole life as I was named after my uncle William. we actually had the letter for years but it was lost in a fire. you have a new sub. That was the exact wording of the letter with no embellishments .Very good job and TY again
You are so welcome! Thanks for commenting. I have a high degree of respect for you uncle.
Thanks for sharing that interesting but sad story Chuck. Well done
Great story to keep alive.
Sad for his wife & family.
Thank you for your stories.
Please continue !
I like how you tell these real stories. Good voice to listen to. Thank you.
A man is forgotten till thier name is not uttered. So thank you for keeping his alive
So many "if onlies" . Bad luck, daring, a miracle, and a tragic resolution. A fantastic story of real life. I can hardly believe I haven't heard it before.
Great Bit Of History. Sad Though. It Kind Of Makes Me Mad That People Saw The Lighthouse Lights And Told The Coast Guard And They Did Not Check Right Away! What Were They Thinking? I Mean Connect The Dots Coast Guard. Missing Plane/Pilot, Lighthouse Lights Come On, Why In God's Name Would You Not Immediately Check It Out?! SHEESH!
Great Stuff Restless Viking! I Hope Someone Puts A Memorial Plaque With The Whole Story In The Lighthouse Rebuild!
I've been told (after the video posted) that only 1 person reported the light to the local police. And apparently, she was older and they couldn't find anyone else to confirm it.
Love your brilliant, epic history....they are so amazing.
Interesting! Thanks for sharing. Perhaps the restorers should consider stocking the lighthouse with some kind of small watercraft, for emergencies. Inflatable raft, kayak, canoe, whatever.
I believe that's the plan.
Interesting story told by a great story teller. Always enjoy the content and delivery.
As a kid in middle school (mid/late 70's) my favorite class was Michigan History. Doesn't hurt that the teacher (and his wife) was good friends with my parents. I couldn't get enough of that class. We spend many weekends in the summer at the cottage in Indian River that belonged to the teacher and his wife. In a sense, I lived that class. These videos remind me of those classes some 40+ years ago.
What a amazing story.....thank you ..learning so much about our state I never knew..hugs to you and Poppins❤
Dang what a hopeful but sad story, great research, thank you!
Humbling, sad story, told very well by a great story teller! Thank you for sharing it!

Looking forward to your next video!
Amazing story. Thank you for sharing.
Great story, Thanks.
Another awesome story!
His flight path was over my house. Just before he went over Lake Huron
good vid dood!!!
The Viking keeps bringing it,,HuRaHH! :) The MSgt.,,amazing and a hero. Wow.
He’s restless. (At one point in the vid, I thought Chuck was gonna take Thor out into the ice flow. Props for being adventurous enough for me to think that.)
😂😂
Love your Channel! No one else is making historic videos about superior like you! Matter of fact… at all!😂
Fascinating story! So creepy and mysterious. Poor Master Sargent Wyman - he was so close, yet so far. He somehow snatched his life from the jaws of certain death, only to drown a few days later trying to make it to land. Sad.
Great story, as always.
Yes sir. I love real stories like scary bear attacks. I have learned a lot for real life tales. Tales of self rescue are my favorites. We get lots of pressure ridges on ice. Where it presses together and shaves ice into a ridge.
Great videos as usual
Incredible
Grew up in Mackinaw. Went to school in Cheboygan. My grandpa told me about this. You had to be close to Cheboygan recording the video?!
Cheboygan State Park! I didn't have my boat to get out to the lighthouse. 😆
He tried 😔
So sad ..😢
😥
I would have stayed in the lighthouse.
Thin ice is to dangerous.
70 years in Michigan, never heard this before.
Vikings tell good stories!
Appreciate this history and Master Sergeant Wyman’s will to survive. It’s hindsight bias on my part, but why wouldn’t the USCG keep their lighthouses stocked with provisions for such a, nautical or aeronautical, self-rescue event? In WWII Floating Hotels (i.e. rescue buoys) provided a chance for downed pilots or wrecked sailors. It seems appropriate to make “rescue hotel” part of any lighthouse’s mission-especially when in USCG active service or part of a historical keeper’s association. There will likely be another ditch or wreck on the Great Lakes. P.S. How’s your new HQ garage project going? All the best!
Its complete enough to sit back and save the rest of the projects for "later", if you know what I mean.
Out of altitude, airspeed and ideas he rolled the hard six but he came up snake eyes. I wonder what his MOS was?
They need to put a rubber lifeboat or dingy on the lighthouse.
And some emergency radio or emergency GPS that has an emergency rescue beacon on it,and some flare guns for emergency use,and food rations.
It's sad to hear the cavalier attitude the coastguard ppl had back then!
When you here there is something going on out there, knowing a man is down in his airplane, and missing, you say,ah,we'll go out it in a few weeks!
You jump on it,NOW!
I READ another story of tragedy with this same attitude up in Quebec, when the village of Le Rocheleiu sunk 300 feet into the ground!
They just let ppl.scream for help till they died, but only pulled out a few !
Whike others kept yelling for help till the cries faded away!
So sad,we had/have such a cavalier attitude towards search and rescue !
😮
Sounds like he never lost PMA. It's a shame the elements got him.
HOW COME we've NEVER heard this story b4???????
👍 👍
Did they ever find the submerged plane?
I have no knowledge of anyone locating his aircraft or attempting to.
😎 🇺🇸
Were you a teacher? A father? Bet you read to either and they were enthralled.
Thanks, very kind of you. A father of two, but they may disagree with the "entralling" part. 🤣😂.
