Honda Goldwing - 5 Myths busted ! (79)
Hi, thanks for tuning in to Stand-up Moto. In this video I want to squash a few of the myths surrounding this wonderful motorcycle, in my 2 1/2 years of owning a Honda Goldwing I have encountered some comments from people (99% being complimentary) that just don’t understand the Goldwing.
These motorcycles are arguably the best touring bike ever made, and yet they are so much more than that. Some people persist on trying to tell me what it can’t do, so hopefully in this video I can put those arguments to bed.
One of the comments that I have had from younger riders (not in a disrespectful way) which I don’t cover in the video is that only old guys ride Goldwings, and you know I thought about this and they are probably right.
But when you think about this these old guys (me included) which have been around motorcycles for many many years and yet they choose to ride a Goldwing , I guess that has to tell you something.
Please be advised that the content in this video is not advice or instruction on how you should ride a Goldwing, it is purely a demonstration.
Hopefully you enjoy the video, please give it the thumbs up 👍 and share it & consider subscribing if motorcycle reviews are your thing.
Cheers
Steve.

Honda Transalp 750 review 2024-Best upper middleweight dual purpose adventure bike? (78)
Переглядів 35 тис.4 місяці тому
Honda Transalp 750. Is this the best dual purpose middleweight adventure bike of the Japanese offerings? That’s what I try to determine in this video. The other two offerings from the land of the rising sun are the Yamaha Tenere 700 and the Suzuki 800. Both good motorcycles in their own right, but where does the Transalp fit into this trio? I hope you enjoy my take on the Honda and please feel ...
CFMoto 650MT review 2024 Unbeatable value! But is it a good motorcycle? (76)
Переглядів 13 тис.5 місяців тому
In this video I look at the CF Moto 650 MT, I must say that I have had nothing to do with this brand in the past. As I mentioned in the video I have been getting around with blinkers on, this is a very well put together package, at what I believe is an affordable price compared to many others in its class. If you have not heard of CF Moto in the past then you are not alone, but once upon a time...
BMW R18 Classic review 2024 Wow! this is certainly not a generic cruiser! (75)
Переглядів 26 тис.6 місяців тому
BMW R18 This is my review of this heavyweight cruiser, at first I wasn’t sure. But soon realised this bike is like no other cruiser available, the massive 1800 cc boxer twin has a character all of its own. In a word it is brilliant, the build quality of this motorcycle is second to none. Something else that really surprised me was the ease of doing your own maintenance, not really something we ...
BMW CE04 Fully electric REVIEW 2024 Expensive but great! (read description first) @standupmoto(74)
Переглядів 16 тис.8 місяців тому
This is my review of the all electric offering from BMW. As a full-on petrol head, I was certainly not expecting to be almost overwhelmed with the performance breaking and manoeuvrability of this top-shelf scooter. Does the CEO4 warrant the price tag? Have a look at my review and let me know what you think. Also in this video I have a bit of fun with the regenerative braking side of things, ple...
Yamaha XVZ 1300 V4 Classic collectable metric cruiser review (72) @standupmoto

Yamaha Royal Star XVZ1300A. This video was inspired by one of my viewers who noticed this bike in the background of one of my motorcycle reviews and asked me to do a review on it. The bike I am showing here is a 1996 model. Older Japanese classic motorcycles are becoming very collectable. This bike is unique in that it has a detuned version of Yamaha’s famous VMax motor. Hopefully you enjoy the...
Honda CTX 700 Used bike review way way better than I expected (71) @Stand up Moto
Переглядів 17 тис.Рік тому
Honda's CTX700 is a great middleweight cruiser with exceptional fuel economy and of a manageable size, if your current motorcycle is starting to get a little bit heavy this may be for you. Or maybe you are looking to upsize from a smaller capacity machine but don't want to enter the more expensive heavy cruisers. Hopefully I have covered the questions you may have in relation to this motorcycle...

Honda Africa twin, in this video I have a look at a 2016 model Africa twin as a used bike by in 2023. Are they value for money? And is it the right adventure bike if you’re looking to do long distance, but also some true off-road adventures? Hopefully you enjoy the video and please give me the thumbs up and subscribe. Suzuki VStrom 250SX. In this video I look at the new baby of the VStrom family. Due for release in Australia and other parts of the world in approximately March 2023. I think new and experienced riders alike will find this bike appealing. I will be ...

This would have to be the most comprehensive, yet easy to understand review of the Himalayan, and I reckon I've seen all of them. Outstanding work, Sir. I have subscribed and look forward to more of your reviews. Thank you.
Thanks Paul glad you enjoyed it & welcome to the channel, I know the owner of that particular bike and he tells me it’s still running fine. Thanks for the kind words.👍
I was loaned one of these a while back while my R Nine T was in for a service. I loved everything about it except it's woeful lack of ground clearance. Scraping metal on tarmac at moderate lean angles is fun at first but the novelty soon wears off. People say to me, it's a cruiser and not meant for enthusiastic cornering, to which I reply, I have a 2003 Moto Guzzi California EV1100 which says otherwise, and would leave the R18 for dust on anything other than a straight road. This is the only thing that holds me back because in every other respect it's fantastic
Gday Andy, yes the clearance certainly slows you down. Especially if there’s a slight dip in the bend, she’s no race bike for sure but it makes up for it in character. Thanks for your feedback 👍
Great review, thanks. My question, how slow will it ride in top gear, will it pull from say 30mph? I currently ride a freewind, (like dr650) and it wont go less than 50mph in top gear, forever changing gear if riding in traffic. Thanks
Hi, I’m about to do a long term review of the SX and I’ll make sure I cover your questions in the video, spoiler it’s been fantastic with no issues at all. I didn’t answer your question re top gear at slow speed not because I didn’t want to but because I haven’t actually tried it, I will in the LT review. Cheers.
@@standupmoto thanks, I shall look forward to it.
I just purchased a V Strom 250 SX two days ago, rode it yesterday and today, i've had it up to 97kmh already, and after watching this video, i've learnt something, let it run in, 'll do that i forgot all about taking it easy and not to push it since it is new, i bought the 2024 model, i'm totally impressed by it, at my age (61) it'll do with what i'm comfortable with, a really neat informative video, thankyou for posting.
Cheers Zane thanks mate glad you enjoyed the video, they are a great little bikes. I’ve still got mine and she’s going well, yes riding reasonably calmly until at least that first oil change is recommended. Enjoy your new ride & be safe.
Can you turn the filler cap around 180 degrees so it flips forward?
It probably could be done, minor thing that really isn’t an issue. I think I was just getting a bit picky on something that annoys me when filling on what otherwise really is a good package. If you can find a good one these old police bikes are great value.👍
I love buying used bikes. I can have 4 or 5 different bikes for the cost of one new one.
You can't beat used bikes for the value! 👍
Great video Are you in Adelaide ?
Thanks mate 👍, yes I am.
@ do you still have the bike ? Maybe you could do a Long term review I am thinking of buying one next week
@ Yes mate still have it, the little Strom has become my go to bike for quite & easy rides. It’s had no problems at all, fuel consumption when riding properly is insanely good, everything still works as it should. Apart from the bars (that I just didn’t like) I fitted & Bark Busters I’ve left it totally stock. Yes good idea, I should do a long term video.👍
@@standupmoto how many kms have you ridden so far ?
Well done! You were cooking on the dirt roads!
Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it! 👍
@martinherald6492 - Currently, I have travelled around 2500 miles over a three months period on my clutch-less NC750X DCT. And I do love it. If I had chosen the manual model, I probably would have loved it too. the NC is a bike that suits me. Clutch or not, it makes little difference. Having said that, not having to constantly change gears in stop and start commute peak hour traffic is most likely an advantage the Dual Clutch Transmission has over the manual bikes. The DCT definitely makes for a more relaxing comute, allowing me to focus 100% on road conditions and hazards instead of diverting some of my attention to changing gears. That is my opinion on my clutchless NC750. Being a Honda quality build, I would expect that the problems you mentioned above about sticking throttle and such, would be less likely to occur.
Yes I agree, if you dissect that comment re manual/auto it would to me appear to be more lack of proper maintenance & rider training. The DCT is a great addition, I had many riders commenting or rather knocking quick shifters when they first appeared but now it’s almost std fitment.
@standupmoto Yes. 100% I was initially looking at buying the ADV 350 for commute to work. But after further research I bought the NC750. But the ADV 350 and the ADV 750X are excellent bikes with very positive owners reviews being very happy to own them. And they are only two of the Honda bikes that have automatic transmission. So, the automatic transmission itself has definitely been a success across the board with honda vehicles.
Such a wonderful review man.
Thank you 🙏🏻
The GL1800 Goldwing is definitely at home in the twisties. My best friend and I always rode side-by-side on the windy roads. One of our favorite things to do was get behind a bunch of sport bikes and laugh at their amazed looks as we kept up with them. 😂
Agreed, been there done that & then pulled up somewhere for a coffee and sport bike riders will come up for a chat and say “what have you done to this thing”.
Gunna hafta pull ya up one point . Never ever use anything other that a premium fuel in order to keep the piston rings happy with something that works with the oil . The Oil Geek did a review / test not so long ago on this subject so no excuses bro , ( on Utube ) . Picking up me Continental in the new year ...
Gday Jeff, a new Conti? Great stuff, you’ll love it. As far as the fuel is concerned the Interceptor only has a compression ratio of 9.5 / 1 , our regular unleaded is 91 octane plus a bit. Our premium is 98 and as good as it is with the lubricating factor additive it’s probably not ideal for the lower comp engine. The different octanes are designed to be used with different compression ratios, the fuels now are vastly different to our old Standard & Super of yesterday. I know the fuel companies advertise how great their high octane fuels are and sponsor influencers to say it will do just about everything but cure cancer, I’m sure it has nothing to do with the extra $00.20 c they get per litre. But in reality the manufacturer of the engine has done lots of testing & spent gazillions of dollars working out what octane rating they should print on that sticker that they put on the tank. Enjoy that Conti, I’m jealous .👍
@standupmoto Nope , you're wrong on this , I've fact checked this guy and guess what ... Good news for ICE addicts like us though .
Ok I’ll run with it, I do use 98 in my GW but I’m thinking this whole dinosaur blood thing is starting to get very expensive! Mind you that Interceptor I reviewed was crazy economical as will be your Conti . I’m reviewing a Triumph Tiger 1050 atm and it’s also very economical for the capacity. Rumor has it after the Ukraine / Russia conflict is over we will be paying $3.50 a litre in Aus , maybe time for me to reconsider what I’m riding. Who knows maybe they will come up with a solid state battery that gives 4 or 5 hundred kms on a motorbike not too far down the track. Won’t go into it here (maybe via email) but I had a reality check not long ago when we did a fuel cost calculation over the last three years and I was floored as to what I have given to oil companies!
Great video.
Thanks, I hope you enjoyed it! 👍
great review mate
Thanks mate, cheers 👍
A really thorough review from someone who clearly knows what he is talking about. Thank you. Great off road sequences. I look forward to his trials capability review of the Triumph Rocket 3. Legend.
Cheers mate thanks & yes the Rocket 3 is coming for a review when I can find one👍
Is it Still worth buying the neotec 2 in December 2024? Half price (£320) Thanks for any comments , advice
Gday, in answer to your question I personally think yes. I have two Neotec 2’s now and they are still performing well, no issues whatsoever & the Bluetooth intercom/phone set up is a gem.👍
That loud exhaust is enough to turn me off buying one of these. I know you said you 'enhanced it' but why, I want to hear the factory sound. What do you do for your 9-5 day job?
Hi , yes the louder exhaust is not everyone’s cup of tea but personally I love it. The sound of the big six in full flight (to me anyway) is just beautiful, normal job when I’m not playing with motorcycles? Playing with aeroplanes.
Hoq would it go with a side car?
That's a great question! I've not seen one with a sidecar but I'd imagine it would work well with a bit of a gearing alteration. It’s long & carries its weight low.
3 weeks ago I bought ctx700,my 1st cruiser,12th bike a 2013 model it's fully faired with fake speakers in fairing (odd) has a top box and passenger hand grips...th ms çomftable seat I've ever sat on...I need to find panniers soon...paid $5500au
That sounds like a great deal and a very nice bike for $5500, they really are comfortable machines! 👍
got a 2023 for $6,400 total price out the door so far so good....I don't care if it was from mars paying $90 a month can't beat that....
I’ve come across several riders with this model since doing the review, all are very happy & had no problems at all. Great value bike. 👍
Great meeting you Steve today at Angaston. Merry Christmas Cheers Theo
Thanks mate and you Theo, look forward to seeing that Piper going overhead one day 👍
Excellent info thanks mate! Will buy one next year, looking fwd. to the experience! Thank you for this review. Cheers!
Thanks Mate glad you enjoyed it, there’s some really good examples out there so you should have plenty to choose from.👍
You asked for comments on these bikes...here goes. I restore old motorcycles, engine rebuild, paint, everything. I can say hands down the Hondas are the best designed and best built bikes out there...by a large margin. I see it every time I work on one. No question.
Cheers mate, that’s what I like to hear. Thanks for the input 👍
In Paris they use them as executive taxis Quick point to point
Great job. Thorough and engaging. Like how you covered all the points including lights, handling, pillion accommodations that most people fail to address. My only question is: why did you get such a LARGE bike? I like most of the improvements they made with the 2020 model, but wish they had kept it simple with the display and adjusting traction control and ABS. Thank you!
Thanks Daniel glad you enjoyed it, yes she’s certainly on the big end of the trail bike scene. The big thing here for me was to experience the DCT in all it’s glory, by that I mean it’s (the DCT) available on some of Honda’s road machines but I really wanted to see what it would be like on a high capacity dual purpose bike. Yes I hear you regarding simplicity, nowadays the criteria appears to be make it as complex & un user friendly as possible.
Super cool review, thanks
Cheers mate, thanks 👍
Great to meet you in birdwood the other day Steve. Enjoy the content you create nice work!! -Pete
Thanks Pete, it was great to meet you too, glad you enjoyed the vid!
You can easily go 190 km/h for 20-30 min straight (German Autobahn from where I live to my parents place is without any speed limit).
Max limit here in Aus is 130 kph nowadays & even that is only up north, it’s a bit of a pain when reviewing bikes with good high speed performance.
As a K1600 owner, I consider the GW ist still state of the art.
Awesome video. I am currently selling my Africa twin to down size to the Transalp.for 70% to and from work 30% victorian high country adventure riding. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Cheers Jamie thanks mate, I recon you’ll be happy with the Transalp. I’ve time on both now and although the TA doesn’t have the oomph of the AT it is way more nimble & easier to manoeuvre in tight spaces. And don’t get me wrong there’s still plenty of power to get you into trouble, it’s a good thing. 👍
Why is it called v strom if it's a single 🤔
Mmmmm I see what you are saying, I guess Suzuki are just milking the name but you’re right. Previously the singles were referred to as DR or DRZ.
Sounds quite 'braapy' which is a definite plus ➕️
Yeah it’s a good little thing, no powerhouse but a lot of fun.👍
Great job 👍🇦🇺
Does anyone know what aftermarket exhaust this Honda is running on?
Outstanding review. Very thorough, with Great camera work. I owned a 1500 at one point and loved it. I have owned other bikes. They paled in comparison to my 1500. I am now looking to move up to the 1800. Thank you very much for your video. It has helped support me in making my decision to purchase one.
Cheers mate thanks, good luck with your plan to get a GL1800. There are some very well looked after examples out there.👍
7:45 Trick from an owner : get in the kitchen, steal some aluminium and shape it into a river/funnel type of form that you can simply rest against your pipes underneath oil filter so the messy fluid goes directly in your container of choice
Top tip👍 Cheers
Or a bent up number plate
Hi Steve - What is the relation between Preceptor and Aeropup?
Gday, look I’m not a hundred percent sure to be honest. The aircraft you see in this video closely resembles the Nostalgia air pup out of Texas from many years ago, that company became Preceptor aircraft in North Carolina. Kits were produced & sent all over the world, these Aussie kits were produced by a chap called John Cotton in South Australia. Most were supplied as kits for home builders with the welding work already done, this particular aircraft was welded & constructed at Parafield airport for VH registration rather than recreational but returned to the recreational registration soon after manufacture. I’m not sure there was any commercial type of agreement between Preceptor & John Cotton but geeeez they look pretty similar, I think back in those days there was a lot of well let’s say looking over the shoulder. I may be off track but if any viewers have any confirmed information please add to this conversation. Cheers.
Great video. Does anybody know what a centre stand costs in Australia?
Thanks mate 👍 I think the C/Stands vary between about $250 & $450.
At 71, I've outlived the proclivities that made me love my tuned and piped ZX-14, and while my Harley Road King is very stable and tractable at speed, it's cumbersome in town. I'm ready for something different. I'd like a bike that combines some of the qualities of the two bikes I mention. (More comfortable than a sport-tourer) I've long known about the excellent qualities of the Wing and think an 1800 is in my future...
As I say in the video I think if you’re into big bikes you need to try a Goldwing at least once in your riding career, would be great to get your thoughts after owning one for a while.👍
I bought the latest 2024 NC750X DCT, brand new. I have put over 1500 miles on it so far on my daily commute to work in London traffic. And i am very happy with it. The DCT means that there is no clutch. Just twist and go. That takes a couple of weeks to get used to in low speeds when making U turns or filtering through slow moving traffic. At first, it was jumping forward too much. I hit some sand bags with my front wheel on a parking sign at work once! 😂 But now I can predict exactly how much is going to go forward down to millimeters. Also, not having to change gears in traffic is awesome. One less thing to worry about. The automatic clutch is very smooth. 👍
Thanks for the info on owning the DCT version of the NC, sadly we never got the auto version here in Aus. 👍
@standupmoto - That's strange that Honda would not make available the DCT in Australia. I would have thought that Australia is big enough market to make all versions of the NC available... 🤔
I don't like clutch less motorcycles. In my opinion they're dangerous. They are fine as long as the bike is %100. But I buy used bikes and stopped buying scooters when I had a sticking throttle (carburetor slide worn) on one of them. I had a sticking slide on a 250 for over a year in Australia and couldn't figure out why I crashed a 125 Suzuki step here. At some point in time everyone who rode that bike crashed it. I thought it was just a carby thing. Nope. I girl on a new fuel injected Zoomer raced across the street and smashed the door of a bar I was in. Also a family member did the same thing on an old fuel injected airblade. I'd never heard of the throttle sticking on that airblade until she smashed into the neighbor's door. I didn't even bother to fix it, I just gave it away and purchased a 50cc Honda today as she took the kids to school on that bike. I figured the 50cc was at least slower. Clutch less scooters are everywhere in Asia. Everyone rides bikes around here, but many don't even know how to use a clutch. I'm teaching my kids how to ride on a Grom/MSX. Those bikes I mentioned are all 10 horsepower odd 125cc's. If you have that problem on a 700cc, you'd better be in the open and well practiced in hitting that kill switch that most scooters don't have. Bad luck about not having a free hand to hold a shopping bag from the corner store. You've gotta have a clutch.
Yes I agree 100% , It is becoming more popular on some of Honda’s larger models lately but the lower capacity bikes miss out. Australia is a funny place in the sense that many riders find it hard to accept change, there’s this misconception that if you’ve not pulling in a clutch it’s not a real motorcycle. And yet riders have embraced the quick shifters without any issues, I guess as time passes & a new generation moves through things will change.
@martinherald6492 - Currently, I have travelled around 2500 miles over a three months period on my clutch-less NC750X DCT. And I do love it. If I had chosen the manual model, I probably would have loved it too. the NC is a bike that suits me. Clutch or not, it makes little difference. Having said that, not having to constantly change gears in stop and start peak hour traffic is most likely an advantage the Dual Clutch Transmission has over the manual bikes.
Never heard the term 'undersquare'. Why not just call it a 'long stroke? But I like you test very much. And what a lovely country you live in!
Yes long stroke as you say is the same thing, back in the day my lecturer always referred any ratio of les than 1:1 as under square. I guess the term has just followed me through the years . 👍
I have a 2012 GOLDWING with 43576 miles on the clock it is loaded with all the goodies Black and silver beautiful
Sounds very nice, enjoy & ride safe 👍
I am a Harley rider and I have to say, i like this bike and seriously considering getting one. I am not sure about the boxer motor but im sure its fine.
They have been at that boxer a long time, I’d say they’ve got it pretty well sorted by now. 👍
Well done mate. Now i want one lol
Cheers mate 👍
Great review of the NC! Accurate assessment on all levels. I have a 2022 DCT model. I'm considering a slip-on exhaust. The LexTek is one good option among many; I'm going to see if they're available in the US. Hoping you can tell me what model you have? Thanks!
Gday Richard, thanks mate glad you enjoyed it. Couldn’t find a model # on the muffler, it was just ordered as a muffler to suit the model of bike. Great to hear from owners, unfortunately the DCT version didn’t come to Aus.
Thanks for the great review, Steve! It's really helpful in making a buying decision. 🎉 i was not happy with that handle bar while test driving the bike.
Thanks for the feedback, the handle bar was a bit of a let down for me also as I shared in the video but it’s a pretty easy fix & totally changes the feel with the aftermarket bar. Enjoy this wonderful little Strom & ride safe.👍
Wow. This was an excellent review. You went through it like a professional. I especially like how you went through the dirt roads.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it 👍
Hi, can you share where you purchase the handlebar?
Hi yes sure, it came from SA motor cycles in Tailem Bend South Australia. Ask for Kirsty 👍
How many miles on this when purchased? Would be nice to know what failures were fixed prior to your purchase.
The books only showed service work, if other work was performed it wasn’t recorded.👍
