I bought my first bike, an 04 Goldwing. The little neighborhood kids always wave on their little bikes. The bright orangy-red, what few chrome accents it has and what sounds like cobra exhaust is a chic magnet. She is a beautiful girl. My longest ride has been four hours across Georgia. I installed highway pegs last week and now I'm ready for longer rides. I can pack a weeks worth of clothes, a pair of sneakers, and a tent in the storages. I shopped few years for a bike and when I sat on the Goldwing and heard that big motor, that was it. When I found one in my price range, I jumped on it, In my opinion, even though I have never owned another bike, the Goldwing is top dog.
Excellent Lots of people say to start off with a light/small motorcycle first before Getting a BiG bike. But that is not for everybody. Many people can do like you did, get on a huge bike and be safe. 👍
My 2003 is in Jupiter Orange, another rare colour made only in 2003 which first attracted me to this bike. Superb machine with few problems other than sticky switches which need service or replacement every 10 years. I have 135K kilometers on it and it's barely broken in. Honestly, it runs and looks like the day it came off the showroom floor. I did have to add a custom seat and floorboards to accommodate my long legs but once done, there is simply no other motorcycle that comes close to it regarding personal comfort. At 80, I can still drive 500KM's a day and get off refreshed....can't even do that with either of my cars. With good maintenance, you will never wear this machine out...
Hello Robert, thanks for the comment. Yes I must agree the comfort level is second to none. I have done many Kms since doing the review and couldn’t be happier with this wonderful machine. Love the color of your 03 also, stay safe. All the best.
@@standupmoto Some 29 years ago, I was about to get out of motorcycling altogether. One day I went to the dealer who just finished selling my Kawasaki Vulcan 1500. I was about to pick up the cheque when my wife pointed me towards this very slightly used beautiful orange Gold wing on the showroom floor. She asked the salesman to start it up and it purred like a kitten. My wife turned to me and said. " if you don't buy that bike, you are crazy". W.E..L..L..with a "come on" like that, I pulled out my cheque book and bought it on the spot. This was one of the best decisions I have ever had made in my 67 years of bike riding, and I have since made untold numbers of friends that I would never have met had I not bought this bike. I hope your Wing gives you as much pleasure as mine has given me the last 18 years or so. I also LOVE the colour of your bike....

Thanks Peter glad you enjoyed it, I’ve done many miles since doing that review and I have to say I’m even more taken with this wonderful machine than I was then. All the best, cheers.
Looking at a 5th gen Wing and I must say that this is the most comprehensive motorcycle review that I have ever seen, and I have seen most of them. A special thanks to your wife for helping to support my decision, as my wife is my reason for getting a bike of this type and her comfort is paramount. Much appreciation to the both of you.
Glad it was helpful John & thanks for the special thanks to my wife, she appreciated it. We’ve had this bike for a while now and our views have not changed, in fact they’ve only grown stronger. The Goldwing truly is a beautiful ride (albeit not the most fuel efficient) but that’s an acceptable trade off for the comfort & smooth 6cyl power, my only real complaint is I didn’t get one years ago. 👍
@@standupmoto thanks for the reply. I will update you once we select one. Heading into the fall/ winter here in the states, so the selection will be very broad.
@@johnnance1414 Ok love to hear what you select, just one thing make sure the passenger seat has the heater. Its a game changer for your wife & if possible rear arm rests (although you can always retro fit the armrests) good luck with your purchase.
Yes Greg that sounds good, I’ll send them my bank details but I won’t hold my breath waiting for payment 😂 Enjoy your new/used Goldwing, I have done many miles on mine since doing the review and love it even more now. Ride safe, cheers.
I bought an 04' Gold Wing with .2 miles on it. It's an incredible machine, I've rode all kinds of bike's since I was 9yrs old. I was really happy to come across the video of your 07' Gold Wing. Great video, and of all the motorcycles I have owned this will be my last as I'm getting up in age. I've traveled all around Georgia and Florida where I live. I Love this old gal, she's red and mostly stock, not a lot of chrome. I keep up the maintenance on her and will go anywhere anytime if I want with no worries about any breakdowns. Thanks for this video, great job !!!
I am driving also many years; I had many bikes, cross, chopper, touring, super-fast and super slow😁😁😁😁. I like everything with 2 wheels. 3 years ago I sold my BMW 1300GT and bought my 2008 Goldwing. I always thought this is a big boring bike, but is surprised me that this is the top of all motorcycles. My wife likes also to sit on the back and we make long travels.
I have 2006 that I've owned since 08. This bike is truly a dream to ride. It has a little over 111,000 carefree miles. Minimum low cost maintenance along with tires and oil is about all. This bike is truly a joy to ride, especially long distance!!!
My Goldwing is a 1987 Interstate model, 67K miles, the very last model with no electronics, not even a clock. I t is awesome, but I need to take it into the shop before I can ride it again.
Outstanding review...I own a 2001 with 154k miles on it and fully intend to ride it to 200k and beyond. This is my 4th Wing having owned an 86, an 89 and a 99 before this one with each one and currently also own a GL1500 Valkyrie. I rode a 2019 Goldwing and was very disappointed with it. The 01 to 17 generation of Goldwing is the standard by which touring bikes are to be judged by for years to come. Keep the rubber side down and ride safe, everyone 😊
Cheers Edgar glad you enjoyed it, interesting to hear your thoughts re the current incarnation of Wings. I’m yet to try one, great to see you’ve got a Valkyrie also, they’re awesome.👍
I really want to know what the limit is of a well maintained mile muncher. 100k miles for most motorcycles is clapped. A honda grom wont even get close usually. A dr650 might but theyre also basucally dirtbikes so they get beat on dropped lots adventuring. Thus bad boy i bey you could go 500k miles if you were really serious about keeping the fluids clean etc. I just saw a video some guy took one with 200k on a pretty good roadtrip. I cant believe hes lane splitting it.
This might be the best review ever, starting at 33:04 where you totally surprised me, and most folks I'm sure. You are obviously a well seasoned rider as this would be outside of most Goldwing owners comfort zone, but I'm glad to see you fearlessly carved up some bush. I know down under they call the Suzuki DR650 the bush pig, well you just took that title away from the Dr. Zed and slapped it right on the wing! Nice!
Hi mate, thanks glad you enjoyed it. have had a couple or DRs, good mount for sure. The Goldwing despite its bulk can hit some reasonable trails so long as clearance doesn’t become an issue and not to much sand.
I bought my 2002 GL1800A new, the last of a long line of Hondas, a BSA and 1970 Kawasaki 500 Mach 3. All the rest are long gone, but never my Goldwing. 1068 hours total time since new at 43,333 miles as of now, with no mechanical issues. Wish I could ride her more often, but for the semi-permanent crappy weather in the Pacific Northwest. Thanks for your video; it's the best I've seen about older Goldwings.
Great stuff, you’ve certainly had a great spread of motorcycles. Many here in Aus that had the Mach 3 didn’t fear that well, 43 K for an 02, she’s just run in!. Thanks for the kind words & glad you enjoyed the video. I hope to ride your part of the world one day, all the best ps(hope that weather improves)
Outstanding review. I owned a black GL 1500 for about 1.5 years, great bike with no issues when I sold it. Then, a week later I bought my red 2002 GL 1800 with ABS. I've had it now 2.5 to 3 years to date 2022. I don't have heated seats or grips, but my heated gear works very well. Big solid strong bike with lots of throttle. My plan is to purchase the last model of this generation which is the 2017 which is hard to find.
Great stuff Andre, sounds like the Goldwing has you well and truly hooked. I can understand that they are a great machine, good luck with your search for a 17 model. Thanks & cheers.
Yes sir I own a 2002 orange Pearl Goldwing I bought it brand-new one owner have had it for over 20 years now I enjoy your review the best review on the Goldwing I believe and everything is true I bought it when I was younger and I didn't worry about being a old man bike I learned to drive it everywhere just like the owner of the shop told me you will love this bike and he was right God bless and keep the faith
Thank you Manuel, 20 years a Goldwing owner, I hope I can say the same. Great to hear you have had such a wonderful experience with your Wing, they are an amazing machine. Cheers from Aus.
Great review. I ride a VStrom 650 XT which I purchased new in 2018; currently done 48,000 km great bike. I have always admired the Goldwing, and when I was at my local dealer a year or so ago they had a Goldwing for sale. I am 79 now but I said to the salesman I was talking to that I love the Goldwing but I think I am too old to own one. He told me that the one I was admiring had just been sold to a guy 85 years old I was blown away and left there with a spring in my step.
Welcome to the Goldwing club Steve. I bought my first wing when I was 20. (interstate 1100). Now I am 50 years young and I am still riding the Goldwing gl 1800 2002. No oil consumption and still drive 1:17. For me The best bike. I drive all year a round. Enjoy your wing. Greetz from The Netherlands.
Thanks Patrick, yes I’m certainly enjoying the big Wing that’s for sure, I have a friend that has now also bought one. So plenty of rides coming, always great to hear from the Netherlands. Cheers.
Hi Patrick. All year round? I have an old GL 1100 and love it! I’ve been thinking about buying a never 1500-1800 for daily use. I ride all year, right now on a V-Strom. You ride all year in the Netherlands, guess you have salty roads in winter as we have in Denmark. How does your GW survive the salt? And thank you so much to Steve for a great review (guess the salt problem is not an issue for you)
Lots of good vehicles made around 2004-2011 that i think will last much longer than vehicles before. All kinds of stuff from japanese to the american pickups from them had less emissions controls but theyre still very modern.
I’ve always been a fan of the GL1800 and have watched many review videos. But your review is the first one to actually help me realize, that this may be the perfect bike for my needs!
I've had three goldwings and they are the best bikes I've ever owned. I live in central Alberta Canada and have ridden my 2010 to Northern California towing a trailer and two up. No hiccups at all with the bike. I did learn to stay away from any kind of sand as it makes the bike extrememly hard to control. I was at sturgis on year on my 1989 Goldwing and harley drivers (even though they didn't want to) did admit that for long haul bike trips the Goldwings are by far the better bike for that. My wife has a habit of falling asleep in the back as it is so comfortable, heated seats, heated grips etc. The navigations system is useless as it outdates quickly and you can't really get updates for them so I just run my smart phone bluetoothed into my helmet or hard wired to the radio.
Great stuff Brian, you’ve had three- that says it all really. I’m yet to speak to a Goldwing owner that doesn’t love the bike, ride safe over there. I guess your season is just about to begin (weather wise) cheers mate thanks for the comment.
I've had my 2003 Illusion Blue Wing for 8 years now. Bought it with 30K miles, just turned 60K miles. ZERO issues. Just put in gas, tires and oil and ride! The best way to describe how a wing rides is you FLY it. It's a Super Sport Tourer that eats miles and other bikes with ease.
I subbed to your channel. What a great review. You’re as excited as I am with the GL1800 and I am 14 months into my ownership. And you are right, I paid 1/3 the cost of a new one and mine only had 26k miles when I snagged it. I have yet to do a video review but yours is good enough….. for the viewers out there 🤔
Thanks mate glad you enjoyed it, yes I’m quite taken with this bike. I can’t quite put my finger on just what it is, it just fits if that makes sense. Cheers
I've never ridden a Gold Wing let alone owned one. I do dream of it though. One thing I have done is watch a lot of UA-cam automotive reviews. The quality of this content is well above par. It's very refreshing to see a reviewer concentrate on their experience rather than just quote numbers and catch phrases from a press release. Keep up the good work.
Great review Mate! Mine is a 2012; it is my second Wing (previously a 1500 when the kids were little! Now they're adults we could get another one!). Absolutely love the bike and echo your comments; one thing I would HIGHLY recommend to any 1800 owners is to get a set of Helibars for your Wing. The difference from the standard bars is like night and day. If you thought the bike was comfortable before the Helibars, you will be blown away afterwards (especially if you have a backrest)
Steve. Liked the tone and content. Great to hear someone who doesn’t have to have the newest or best but simply ENJOYS. I am early in the process myself but everything about the bike attracts me,,,,,,,except the complexity. I bought mine at an auction sight unseen with a flat battery so no kms known. It had rodent damage and the upper bodywork was removed and in a box. Took a gamble and really didn’t pay a lot for it. When home I powered it up and it had 35k and had a higher level of corrosion than I was expecting. It actually fired up and ran. The engine spooled up ok but wouldn’t come off a fast idle. Turned out about six wires had been cut by chewing and other damaged. Back to the only down side I can see is the complexity, not the technology but the immense amount of hoses and wires and inaccessibility. I bought an’01 with 35k. The process of repair has been a headache but highlights the problem that produces everything about the Goldwing that is good. It’s size, comfort, weather protection and luggage capacity, it’s engine. There is so much of it and it is all so hidden that keeping the corrosion at bay is nearly impossible and it is a haven for rats to hide and chew that I am sure other low use storage type owners are having problems with even if they don’t know it yet. There are a lot of parts for early bikes that are no longer available. The wiring harness being one. They were about mid one thousand dollars when new. While in disassembly I found there is a problem with early bikes with the self reset ratchet lock mechanism on the windscreen adjuster. The lock tab plate was missing on mine as they had a known problem. There was a propensity for the small part to fall out and a later replacement is available but it is not clear whether the part can be replaced or the whole component group. Either way it doesn’t prevent the screen from being used. I reset mine manually by some disassembly and gradually with a series of trial rides I raised the screen one notch at a time until I was happy with the screen height and then just left it there. I come from a background of simple bikes, R series BMWs and I am a bit overwhelmed by the bikes complexity. Removing the wiring harness is a thing to generate nightmares. I produces enough ideological gravity to pull ones motorcycling outlook to a different place. Hard to explain but I have found myself changing the way I look at machinery. Maybe maintain but never recondition.....?use till it’s stuffed and then bin it. The thought of a really high mileage Goldwing where everything is worn out, cracked or deteriorated is overwhelming and it seems such a shame to use up such a great bike. Sorry for the ramble but I am a little off kilter having had my centre reset, if that makes any sense. Good video, tone great, easy to listen to. You have all the makings of a good presenter. I enjoy that you can impart that you enjoy. Cheers Stephen Tas’.
Thanks Steve, no apologies needed for rambling - I’m as guilty as it gets there. So first up I’m glad you enjoyed the video, I love making them. I’m no Goldwing expert by any means but a full workshop manual is a must I believe when as you we do our own work on these older wonderful machines. You’ve taken on a mighty task re-wiring a Goldie for sure but you’ll get there eventually, maybe even keep an eye out for a crash damaged one that you can cannibalise the harness I’m sure the bits you don’t use would be salable to other owners via Facebook Goldwing sites. Thirty five k!! she’s just run in, keep slogging away at it and you’ll have a great bike at the end. It’s been a while since I put that video up and I’ve become far more familiar with this bike since then, I’ve actually ridden most of winter this year. Not something I generally do but this bike with its creature comforts & wind protection have made it a pleasure, I truly believe the Goldwing is one of the greatest purpose motorcycles ever made (just my opinion). As far as presenter goes I just try to say it as it is, I do my own camera work and fumble my way through the editing process. It’s been a steep learning curve for me but I thoroughly enjoy it. I really have no idea how to promote my channel etc but I’m learning, this is so far removed from my life prior to UA-cam and unfortunately I don’t have anyone within my circles that has any knowledge of vlogging. Anyhow that’s my ramble, good luck with your project and feel free to contact me if there’s anything I may be able to help with. Cheers.
Have only rode the Gold Wing since 1975, when it was introduced. Have had a 1975, 1981 Interstate, 1982 Aspencade and now 2009 Audio Comfort model . I don't need or desire any other bike as this one meets all of my needs. Your review is very good. When you say you're not an expert on it I disagree. You took that wing down that gravel road faster than I would. However if I have good pavement, and twists roads I ride it very fast so much that a Ducati rider behind me was having trouble catching up. He said that if a Gold Wing could do the corners that fast then he could too. Welcome to Wing World.
Thanks Ron much appreciated, yes I am enjoying this great bike very much. She’s actually a kitten on the unsealed roads, I’ve also taken her down a few single trails with no real issues so long as there’s no to much sand. Cheers
The best review of the Goldwing yet. I love my 02, and feel it's the best bike I've ever had. I can't see me wearing it out, so it'll likely be the last bike I ever buy. Great for large distances in a huge country, I love it. 🇨🇦
Thanks Jon glad you enjoyed it and yes they are a wonderful bike, I find myself riding this Goldwing more than any of my other bikes. Smooth comfortable powerful reliable and well equipped, you can’t ask for much more than that. Cheers mate.
Great stuff David, 200k wow. That tells me two things, they are a quality built motor and you are excellent at keeping it serviced. Thanks & glad you enjoyed the video, you live in a nice part of the world. Briefly visited Oregon many years ago while visiting the US, Klamath Falls, at the base of a huge lake of whose escapes me but it was a great spot. Cheers.
Does it burn oil? It is shaft drive too. Ive had a shaft drive motorcycle before from the 80s as my first bike and it was incredible. It was a 1983 honda cx650 custom. Shaft drive was nice because I rode a ton which was important when youre first lesrning to ride and I didnt have to do any tedeous maintinance. It was a transverse vtwin so you could pop the spark plug wire right out of the side. Frankly it was so easy im suprised my spark plugs never got stolen. I could disconnect a cylinder by popping off the spark plug wire with my hand while I was riding. It was 33 years old when I got it at 18. That shaft drive lasted 33 years until I sold the bike to a buddy who sold it to some guy that destroyed the bike but it was everything else failing and not the shaft drive. The shaft drive was built different.
The review was great to hear my Goldwing is a 2004 model, surprised when I put it on a weigh scale for trucks, 920 pounds, the baby is heavy, but what a ride the lower the center of gravity the better the ride, smooth steady, comfortable nice sound no lound or noisy the luggage , well you know, thanks for the review ,I'm more comfortable with the bike now that I've heard your comments enjoy your bike ,thank you.
Thank you Angelo glad you enjoyed the video, yes they are heavy but I think that’s what gives them such nice road manners and comfort. Enjoy your 04, keep good oil in it and I’m sure you will get many years of reliable riding. Be safe, cheers.
This is the most comprehensive motorcycle review I’ve seen on UA-cam. I own a 2015 Gold Wing, 40th Anniversary Edition. I use it mostly for cross-country rides across the U.S. and Canada. It’s a joy to ride. It’s powerful, it handles beautifully, and it’s the most comfortable bike I’ve ever owned. Riding many consecutive 10-hour days while covering 500-600 miles per day is no problem on this bike. The only problem that I’ve had with it is the notorious low-speed steering wobble that I hope to cure soon with a fork brace; otherwise, it’s a nearly perfect bike! Thanks again for a great review.
Cheers mate glad you enjoyed it, it’s nice to hear. I do get the occasional “ the video is too long “ comment, and I know my videos do tend to be a bit longer than most but I feel like I would be short changing the viewer if I didn’t give all of my observations. Thanks for your feedback as an owner. 👍
Living in Florida, I enjoyed watching you drive through Australia. I've had roadsters my whole life and a week ago I bought a 2001 goldwing and I absolutely love it. It's amazing to ride and so comfortable that I look forward to each and every ride. I've been binge watching goldwing videos for the past week and a half to familiarize myself with all the features and just watching others enjoy the bike. Keep riding and be safe.
Gday Kevin, thanks & glad you enjoyed watching. Enjoy your Wing and couldn’t agree more, I ride my Goldwing 4 or 5 times each week and look forward to each and every ride. We ride in similar temperatures for much of the year, hope to head that way one day. Cheers.
Hello from Athens, Greece. I 've got a black 06 goldie, with 80k happy km and zero problems so far. Great review, for a great bike! The pertect bike for two up, with great handling and capable for spirited driving, even on dirt, due to its low center of gravity and wise geometry.
I owned a GL1800 A 2001-2006 and agree with everything you said in your excellent, comprehensive review. I absolutely loved the bike. Guess why I’m looking at your review? Oh yes we’re thinking of getting another all these years later and touring Europe again. I would love one of the new models but they’re now outside our budget but why not look for a good used model like yours, most are really well cared for and are beautifully built. Thanks for taking the time to re visit this classic and make the video, brilliant! 👏👏👍
Cheers mate glad you enjoyed the video, yes they are a great motorcycle and there are some lovely well cared for examples available if you look hard enough. I have now done many kilometers on this bike since recording that review and my opinion has not changed, it’s actually increased my respect for the Goldwing if that was even possible. Regards from Aus.
I have owned over the years a 83,84,97,04 teike, another 04 trike,2012 which the last 2 I currently own.In my humble opinion the Goldwing is the BEST touring motorcycle that u can own.
I own a 2019 Goldwing and I only have two complaints. 1.The factory seat is not as comfortable during long rides as I expected for a touring bike and 2. the foot peg position is too far rearward. If Honda corrected those two things I would give the bike a 10 out of 10 score. But even with those things I still rate the bike 8.5 out of 10. It truly is an amazing machine.
Hi Eric, interesting observations of the 2019GW. I haven’t spent any time on your model but I am of the understanding Honda adopted a little more sporty ergonomics with your version which may explain the peg position. I have met many owners of the later shape like yours and they all say as you do, it’s a truly amazing machine. Thanks for the feedback, ride safe. Cheers.
I’ve had painful periods on all the bikes I’ve had. For the last four tourers I’ve used a Bead Rider seat cover. My first one was $35 but isn’t recall what I paid for the seat on my 2015 40th Anniversary edition. It lets air under your tail and eliminates hot spots bare vinyl or leather can cause. Much cheaper than a new seat.
I have a Goldong bike, model 2007, and it is fun and riding it is a cure for depression. It is beautiful but heavy, and despite that I enjoy riding it. Thank you. Your video is wonderful. I subscribed to your channel. I am from Saudi Arabia.
Thank you and welcome to the channel, great to hear from SA. I agree, a nice ride on the Goldwing on a cool morning is a cure for just about anything 😄
Best review of the bike I’ve seen and I feel how you do about these bikes. Mine is a 2003 (Candy Durango Red) and absolute attention getter. My dad owned 3 in his life the first being a 1975. My first was a 1984 standard which my son owns now. A pleasure on the interstate or in the twisties, 2 up or solo
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it. You come from a long history of Goldwings. I have many many hours on this Wing since doing the review and I have to say I love it more every time I ride it. Thanks for the comment, cheers.
Great review! I have the 06 GL1800. Fantastic bike. I could ride it all day long. Great for touring and enjoying the landscape around you. Mine is the Deep burgundy color, almost like a black cherry. I live in Ohio, USA and ride it until they throw salt on the ground. Then I wait for a good rain. You explain it well enough. Love the color of your bike. Thanks for sharing. P.S. PUT THE COZY WINGS ON THE BOTTOM OF YOUR MIRROR. Keeps the cold air of your hands in the winter. And gives you good air flow in the summer. Bolts right up to your Existing screw at the bottom of the mirrors.
Thanks William glad you enjoyed it, yes the burgundy looks great also. I’ll look into those wind deflectors, they sound good. The 06 would be virtually the same I’d think as mine, hopefully I’ll get over that way one day I have a cousin who fly’s for an airline based in Charlotte NC. Cheers mate, ride safe.
the same dude that DESIGNED the GL1800 did the RR or wutever a COUPLE years before it was ''BRAND NEW'' so, IT IS A SPORT BIKE DESGUISED AS A TOURING BIKE!!! under neeth that plastic BUBBLE is a MONSTER!!! ;) I LUVE MINE TOO!!!
Hi Steve, great name and a great review on the Big Wing. I just purchased my first one and it’s 2002 model in a standout yellow pearl, I spent 20 hours detail it and it came up like new and my wife and I just stand there and admire it in the garage. I’ve only had it for a week and rode it home from Horsham Victoria vis Echuca and dropped it off to Honda for a full service and all round fluid change, it’s only got 70,561 klms on it and it’s beautiful and in our eyes better looking than the newer models. My wife rides too and I met her when she was riding a BMW 650 and I was on a Honda CB1100RD which I ended up giving to her when I bought a Honda VF1000R and she ended up putting 122,000 klms on it. We have owned many bikes over the years and this is something that we can just pack up and go away for long weekends and enjoy the comfort and feeling.
Gday, congrats on getting your first Wing, problem you’ll have now is nothing else will compare for touring if ever you decide to change 😄 They are a great machine, I’m about to put out another video on Goldwings! Great to hear your wife rides also, she’s obviously not shy about clocking up the kms! 70K is nothing for these sweet 6cyl motors, I’ve had plenty of correspondence from riders in the US with 100k miles (160k) on them and still running great. Look after her, good oil & maintenance and you & your wife will have many years of Rolls Royce touring ahead 👍
Incredible review, with gorgeous video and audio quality. After a lifetime of BMWs, I have had my current 2020 Goldwing for nearly a year now. Best damned bike I have ever owned. A lot more electronics, of course, on mine, especially with the DCT, which I hope remain reliable. As you say, they surprise you at how well they perform all different tasks.
Hi Paul, thanks & glad you enjoyed the video. I am yet to ride the DCT but have only heard good things from those that have. Honda have been using it for some time now across a few models so I would think reliability shouldn’t be an issue. Cheers mate, ride safe.
Owned a 1975, 1979, 2010, now a 2018 GL1800 DCT absolutely love it and I tow a large deluxe time out tent camper trailer behind it , first time ever pulling a trailer! First year ride over 12,000 miles coast to coast in USA have had absolutely no issues with my 2018! The automatic DCT is so wonderful and sport mode is crazy! I've ridden through snow and ice pulling my camper trailer with absolutely no issues multiple times! Loved all my Honda Goldwings! Owned 2 different Moto Guzzi's, Yamaha Road Star 1700 which was I great motorcycle! But nothing like any of the Goldwings
It’s good to hear a Aussie review on the bike, I currently own a 03 model ST1300 which I call the baby Goldwing. I love long distance riding, me & the misses rode from Port Macquarie to Adelaide & back to visit our grandkids, we both love it but she didn’t like the G- forces when we needed to over take trucks or caravans. She told me she’ll only do it again on a Goldwing, mind you she does suffer from back & shoulder pain sometimes we both in our mid to late 50’s & I ride every day for a job also ride a 07 ktm 640 adventure which I’ve owned for 8mths. Hopefully later in the year I trade up from ST to a Goldwing still like to keep the ST tho 👍👍 thanks heaps on the insight for what to look for cheers
Gday Andrew Thanks mate glad you enjoyed the review. I also had the ST and loved it, it was a great bike for sure and somewhat sportier through the twisties than the wing. In saying that with descent tyres (I run the Bridgestones) the Goldwing can certainly surprise a lot of riders, it’s no sports bike but you can make it hustle. I toured a lot on the ST and it served well with good range between fills (something that does annoy me on the wing) not that I would have thought so at the time if you’d told me when I had the ST the Wing is in a league of its own. It’s smoother quieter offers more protection from the elements has all the luxuries and is heavier which of course adds stability on the open road. Having reverse is just the bee’s knee’s and the comfort for the passenger is unparalleled, you could seriously go to sleep in not on but in the rear seat. I also have a BMW K1600 which is a rocket and also a tourer but I’ll take the wing every time if I’m doing distance, even if I’m riding solo. I’ve done a lot of KMS since doing that review and I love it even more now, as I said the only thing that annoys me is the comfortable range (about 320 Kms per tank) not that it’s over thirsty it’s just a small tank. If your doing big Kms I personally think the wing is second to none, and the Mrs will love you. Cheers
Thank you sir for this nice video. I’m 36. Riding bikes since my 16. Currently on vfr 800 rc46. Beautiful sport touring machine. I found myself thinking about goldwing this days since I’m type of rider who likes to go far and to be comfortable on the bike. I must admit that I had opinion about the goldwing, that is for older people, but I’m pretty much sure after one hour on this machine I will be hooked up so badly. Wish you all the best in 2024. Thanks for your time to share with us very useful information. Cheers 🍻
Thank you Milovan, yes I understand what you are saying. My only regret with the Goldwing is that I didn’t get one 20 years ago. The comfort and level of protection allow you to ride far more often and much further than any motorcycle I’ve had before.
Nice factual, complete review, with your lady passengers comments too (most importantly!) When I eventually get out to the US & Canada,I must hire one of these for a week.
I had a candy apple red 1000 mL Goldwing, as you say stripped when I was in my 20s and enjoyed it immensely, it was smooth and responsive and fun to drive! I know on a 2003 Kawasaki Vulcan nomad 1500 cc.
I work at a Goldwing specialist shop in the US and have fallen in love with them.Currently restoring a 1976 gl1000 LTD,only 2000 produced.Unfurtunatly the new dual clutch atomic is very complex but still rolls on with what your video is about.
Another Jupiter Orange 2003 here, I traded a one year old 2014 Harley Davidson Road King for this Goldwing and was happy to do so ! You just can't beat this bike for comfort and reliability.
Have an 2003 Blue in color and boy are there’s bikes a head turner. I get compliments every Time I ride. They are a tank that takes some getting use to, but once you understand it’s personality, they are a joy to be on, all day. I have 3 Triumphs that sit most of the time because the Goldwing has my heart ❤️ that air cleaner is the hardest thing to service as it’s about a 2 hour job. Still worth a few inconveniences.
Yes I agree, doesn’t seem to matter where you stop someone always admires or wants to chat about the Wing. I don’t know if we had the blue here in Aus in 03, I’ll check it out 👍
I have watched a lot of reviews on motorcycles (and lots of other stuff) and really think you're one of the best! I appreciate your pragmatic approach. Please keep them coming!
Wow, thanks Tom. I certainly enjoy making the videos and would feel like I am cheating my viewers if I didn’t give as much information as I can. I’m no expert by any means and am learning with every review, I just call it as I see it and try to relay the information I would want to know if I were in the market for that particular motorcycle. thanks again. Cheers.
A very comprehensive review, I was deciding between a used Goldwing and a BMW R1200 RT and I think you just about convinced me, as one of the other reviews below its to carry my wife around on long distance drips. And I'm glad to see its an OZ review.
Thanks Michael glad you enjoyed it, I’ve done many kms on both. I love both but the Wing wins the long distance travel battle, the RT is the sportier of the pair but for sheer comfort of both the rider & passenger it’s the Goldwing. The big 6 is silky smooth so hand tingles are a non event even after a long haul of 9 or 10 hours, the pegs are perfectly positioned. Try both, your knees may be in better shape than mine. But as far as passenger comfort goes, my wife says it’s like sitting in an armchair. Weather protection is excellent also, you’ve even got feet heaters. Ok they are the pros now the cons, the tank isn’t really big enough. 350kms v 450 on the RT, in the twisties the Goldi is fun but no sports bike for sure. I guess the long & short of it is see if you can get a ride on both and preferably for a longer ride, you’ll work it out.👍
Been on Harleys since 1981, but picked up a 2005 GL1800 that is a 30th anniversary Candy Red edition. Great machine and now my daily rider. I'm usually redlining the engine between shifts and breaking the rear tire when the traffic light turns green. Still have the Harley, but the speed and handling of the Goldwing is superb plus a super loud horn! I can and do split lanes here in California with the GL.
Excellent review! The 37 minutes transpired much faster than I had anticipated. I'm 74 and I've owned 9 motorcycles. Five from Japan and four Harleys. I sold my last Harley in 2021, but I miss riding so much that I'm shopping for another bike. Your review may convince me to get a Gold Wing instead of another Harley.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. The GWing is an incredibly stable motorcycle to ride in almost any conditions (except ice), I think one of the big advantages over the HD is the reverse. I have nothing against the HDavidsons but like all of the big bikes they are heavy to manage and move around, I’m in my mid sixties myself and am fully aware of how long it takes to repair a spun knee. good luck with your decision. Cheers.
great video, my friend, as you said , it all started in `75 with the first naked Goldwing, build as a sportsbike, a very heavy one at that, lol, i was 18 then and loved it but had no money for something big and expensive like that, so,,,,,, many years later i bought a 1200 interstate but 5 months later i went for the 1200 Aspencade, drove that for about 5 years then went for the basic 1500, after 8 years got me a 1500 Aspencade again, drove that one for about 14/15 years, then i did the big jump in 2006, to an `03 Gl 1800, Candy Durango Red, BEST bike ever, lol, ANYWAY, just about everything you say about the Wing is completely true, its a awesome machine thats build for the long distance but surprises everybody when you get into town with its handling, its also WAYYYY faster then all those sportbikes think, lol, i went for a drive in the France Alpes, there its not the TOPSPEED that counts, i was with a couple of sportsbikes and naked bikes, gueas what, showed many of them my taillights, in THIRD GEAR its just as fast in those winding roads as there bike but also has MORE TORQUE, so when they had to shift,,,,, i just stayed in third, giving me the upperhand, lol, didn't hurth that by then i had about 45 years experiance and about 30 years Goldwing behind me, lol. i'm 65 at the moment, about the Wing,,,, never hed any real problems with them, except de DYNAMO of my second 1200, but that was a known problem with those models, always did most of the maintenance myself and indeed , the airbox is a bit hidden inside, never mind, just takes a bit longer, thats all, i'm happy to say i never had a flat tyre in all tose years, except for when i had my CBX 1000, i found some real damage on my rear tyre (no leak) that i had for,,,,,,, 1 week, (SHIT), so i had to replace that one twice in 2 weeks, o well, shit happens, i have to say that i do love the older taillights of the Wing way more then the new ones they use now, there NOT ugly mind you, but i just like the older ones on the four corners more! i wish you and your girl many fun and beautiful kilometers, keep the shinysite up, greetings from the Netherlands, Roberto.
Great stuff Rob, I love hearing Goldwing stories. Yours started long ago and you still rate this wonderful machine & still ride one. I almost feel cheated that I didn’t find the Wing many years ago, ah well guess I’d better ride it as much as I can while I can. Thanks again for sharing your experiences, cheers mate.
Trailer as well. We have taken all of our vacations with the trailer. It pulls the trailer so well you almost forget its back there. We have 95,000 miles on the bike and have changed tires and oil and that it. Almost maintenance free.
One of the most absorbing YT motorcycle reviews I've ever seen. I was laughing my head off during the dirt section; absolutely brilliant, mate! Can somebody tell me why traction control exists on motorcycles? Have people lost the ability to control the rotation of their right wrists?
Well I’ll take that cheers mate, yes the bikes of late have every rider aid known. I guess it’s all in the interest of safety and that’s a good thing. I’m working on another GW video where she sees quite a bit of off rd. Cheers.
it exists for idiots like you who do not know why it exists. you seem to have lost you ability to understand basics and respect people who may be different to you. clearly you think you are some kind of superbike god. you're not. you're an obnoxious idiot. and am sure everyone you hang out with rubs your ego so you feel even more of an obnoxious idiot.
Thanks for the great review. I had a GL-1000, GL-1100 and a GL-1500. All great wings. I will be riding my 83 GL-1100 later this year. I hope the GL-1800 is in my near future. Thanks for the great review.
20:26 if you are a little bit light in the REAR ...switch up your feets, put the LEFT one on the CENTERSTAND then you can counterbalance right leg for that extra UMMMPHHH... ;) BUT there is also a TRICK to RIGHTING A BIKE ON ITS SIDE by holding the FRONT BRAKE and ''backin up into the seat hold handle for centerstand (and the brake lever) and using legs to lift and brake to control roll... :) the 138 lb president of GWRRA used to demonstrate how to do it back a few years ago lol
You are such a good rider ! That bike is soooo gorgeous and perfect. The Japanese do everything best. That motor is do elegant how it's perfectly centered and low. I rode a Gold Wing one time and ironically it was the EASIEST bike to ride. It was perfection.
Excellent review , chapeau, I am a Pan-European ST 1100 rider which is a fine bike but doesn’t has the comfort level when you compare it with a Goldwing. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Hallo, thank you I am glad you enjoyed the video. I also had the Pan European, it was a great bike. i think if you like the ST1100 you will love the Goldwing. zegenwensen.
I loved this motorcycle in 2004 I have seen one then I though one day I will buy one and that day is here on week ago I bought Honda Golding F6B in red and now is in my garage I recommend this motorcycle is amazing greetings from 🇧🇪🙏
Hi Chris thanks & glad you enjoyed the video, I sure you’ll love your 01. A mate has the same model, mechanically the same as my 07 with a few cosmetic differences around the dash etc and his has no feet heaters. They’re a good thing, keep good quality oil in her changed regularly and I’d say you should have many years of great riding ahead. Cheers.
I have ridden Goldwings for many years. I have gone cross country 4 times. Pulled a trailer with camping gear. NEVER HAD A BREAKDOWN or any issue of any kind.
Cheers Myron, that seems to be the general consensus with most Goldwing riders I meet. Am actually looking for a trailer myself atm to carry a trials bike but not having much luck getting the design I want, guess I’ll have to build one. Thanks for the feedback 👍 cheers.
Tell me what you know about trailering. I always thought it was a bad idea but i also am trying to sdopt different hobbies and frankly the trailer really would be a very useful thing
Thanks Dave, an 05 is probably going to have a few miles on it but if it’s been regularly serviced it’s no issue at all. Hopefully you find a good one.👍
My God, that GoldWing color burnt orange is absolutely gorgeous. I rode bikes for years and quit in 1996. I rode a 1980's GoldWing ONE time and it was one of the most balanced, easy to ride bikes, ever. I can only imagine how this one rides. Honda GoldWing is on an island of one, and then there's every other bike....I'm SUPER impressed with your statement that you couldn't have been further from the truth that this can't be a city bike. I always thought the same thing. Great to know it's .... PERFECT. Your U-Turn example is eye opening that it's so easy. 18:05 sums it up.
Gday Michael, glad you enjoyed the video. Yes they are a great machine and far more versatile than some people think, the 80’s Goldwings like yours are becoming somewhat of a collector’s item here in Aus nowadays. Some riders are restoring them to their former glory and bringing them out on nice days, wonderful to see. Cheers.
cheers for a fantastic review mate... the added view from the missus really added to the knowledge base overall... very few reviewers give that perspective by the person whos backside sits back there most :) having watched many reviews of Goldwings from the 80s through to the latest models all credos to you mate great job and has finally filled in the missing parts (ie handling in city traffic and god help me when I buy mine the bush!!! mind you I live in the bush over here in the west so again your info was incredibly helpful and amazingly clearly understandable great job mate
My pleasure, the Wing looks huge for sure but it really is a very adaptable all round bike . Within reason, your not going to be hitting any motocross tracks of course but for general everyday riding it works 👍
I live in the states, had a 2010 GW a bit more red then yours. I have had many a bike most Harley's but by far the Gold Wing was the best. I road that wing in all of the lower 48 states and from death vally at 282' below sea level to Pikes Peak at 14,115' above sea level and everything in between. I loved watching your video taking me back to my MC days. Thanks, ride safe.
Thank you sir, you’ve lived my bucket list ride and you’ve done it on a Goldwing, doesn’t get much better than that. I’ve covered most of Australia now on bikes, adventure & touring motorcycles but hope to be Stateside in 24 to do some riding there and hopefully it will be on a Goldwing. Thank you for your comments & all the best.
Had a 08, when my wife was on the back, we found a set of highway pegs for the rear. Gave her some were else to put feet, also for the front. Cup holders for both, left side handle, right side handle rear. Luggage rack on trunk lid. Can put helmets on rack using small net, frees up trunk space. Had mine for ten years, three years later she says she's tired of listening to my music and looking at the back of my head. So she got herself a 06 Goldwing tryke.
Great stuff Craig, well she’s got a point. Yes putting the helmets in the top box doesn’t allow carrying anything else in there but I guess they are secure. Enjoy your riding and thanks for the comment 👍 Cheers.
just bought my 2nd goldwing..its a 2010. Had a 1500 as a first one that had 100k miles on it when i bought it. put another 200k on it before moving on to a BMW K1200lt. Needless to say i am back to the goldwing and loving it!
Hi. Nice video, thanks. You asked for other riders' experiences? I bought a 1984 1200 Aspencade just after lockdown. It was bought as 'a bit of a laugh'. Just to experience it for a couple months then sell it on. 2 years later, it's going nowhere!! What a bike!! It just has a huge grin factor, you can do the big shop on it, you can jump on it to go touring in (almost) complete trust at 38 years old. It handles pretty well (especially if you've only ever ridden giant trailies with 21' front wheels 🤣. But the main thing? The Grin Factor! Downsides? Only one - finding shops willing to work on her.
Hi Duncan, your comment about sums it up. The Goldwing is a pleasure to ride, super comfortable and as you say puts a grin on your face. Look after that old girl it’s reaching collectible stage. Thanks mate, cheers.
Fantastic Chris, that’s what it’s all about. Enjoy your Goldie & ride safe👍
Excellent
Lots of people say to start off with a light/small motorcycle first before Getting a BiG bike.
But that is not for everybody. Many people can do like you did, get on a huge bike and be safe. 👍
Chick magnet ..... lol... Little does he know the chicks were laughing at him
I'm sorry, is that a joke? Your first bike was a Goldwing?
@@FryChicken Yep. My first.
Thank you Robert, what a lovely story of how your Goldwing story started. I hope so also, kind regards.

Have owned Goldwings for 4 Decades....have never heard such such a Frank and informed review ..
Excellent presentation..Thank you .
You need to be salesman for Honda. I’ve been trying to make up my mind about Goldwing and watching your video did it for me. Thank you!!!
Yes Greg that sounds good, I’ll send them my bank details but I won’t hold my breath waiting for payment 😂 Enjoy your new/used Goldwing, I have done many miles on mine since doing the review and love it even more now. Ride safe, cheers.
I am 100% getting myself a Goldwing.
'no chance I'm buying a motorcycle
but I watched the whole video,
thanks for making it so informative and entertaining.
Thanks Ken glad you enjoyed it, great to hear your story. Yes they are a fine machine for sure, ride safe.
Hello Alex glad you enjoyed the video. The Goldwing is definitely a nice bike and yes it is also very good for passengers, ride safe.
@@standupmoto thanks, unfortunately in Europe we have not so long roads as in US and Australia, always a lot of traffic and bending's 😊😊
I have 2006 that I've owned since 08. This bike is truly a dream to ride. It has a little over 111,000 carefree miles. Minimum low cost maintenance along with tires and oil is about all. This bike is truly a joy to ride, especially long distance!!!
Thanks for sharing! Ride safe.👍
My Goldwing is a 1987 Interstate model, 67K miles, the very last model with no electronics, not even a clock. I t is awesome, but I need to take it into the shop before I can ride it again.
87s are getting pretty scarce here in Australia, hope the repairs are not too expensive. She’s worth hanging onto 👍
You definetly need to stack on like 20k miles or people like me will say its not getting ridden enough
He told me that the one I was admiring had just been sold to a guy 85 years old
I was blown away and left there with a spring in my step.
Hi Murray, there you go. You’re just a whipper-snapper compared to some Wing riders. Glad you enjoyed the video 👍
And thank you so much to Steve for a great review (guess the salt problem is not an issue for you)
Great review! It's my dream bike 🏍
Thanks mate, even at the age of this one there are some really nice well kept versions available in the used market when you’re ready.👍
Just purchased an '08 and just after owning for 2 weeks I must say this is the best bike I have ever owned. Great review and love that color!
Yes Ron and the more you ride it the more you’ll love it, thanks mate glad you enjoyed the video. Cheers.
Thanks Ramon, yes the Wing is certainly a lovely ride for sure. Cheers.
I agree, EXCELLENT review!!
This bike is PERFECTION !!!! The color, the seats, everything.
Very nice! And that illusion blue looks amazing, ride safe 👍
Thanks David much appreciated, cheers mate.

You stated your comment. The way I would like to. Your english is great eloquette. 👌
@@icosthop9998 Thank you very much for your kind words. All of those school detentions that I sat through weren't in vain, after all.

Even with this "inflation" I do hope you get that *Gold Wing* 👍
Great review Mate! Mine is a 2012; it is my second Wing (previously a 1500 when the kids were little! Now they're adults we could get another one!). Absolutely love the bike and echo your comments; one thing I would HIGHLY recommend to any 1800 owners is to get a set of Helibars for your Wing. The difference from the standard bars is like night and day. If you thought the bike was comfortable before the Helibars, you will be blown away afterwards (especially if you have a backrest)
Thanks Greg & great to hear your back on a Wing, I’ll definitely look into those bars.👍
Cheers
Yes I have a GL 1800 2015 model and I absolutely love it
Hi Tim, that’s great. The 15 is a lovely bike, a few more goodies than my model . Ride safe mate, thanks for the reply. Cheers.
Great review! I’ve got a 2001with 115,000 miles on her and is just getting broke in. Absolutely a great touring motorcycle
Couldn't agree more!
205,000 on my 2001. Runs perfect.
@@brianbook3797 That’s great , you obviously look after your bike well.
Nice review. I have a 2005 just bought it last year only 32k miles on it. You can't buy better fir the money than a good Goldwing. Enjoy the ride.
Thanks, couldn’t agree more, they are a bargain for how much bike you get. Ride safe, cheers.
Fantastic review of the GL1800. I have a 2008 now with 200 grand on miles. Still runs great. I live in Oregon USA.
Cheers.
@@standupmoto Thanks man, I had a 1991 GL1500I with almost 300grand on it. They run forever if you take care of them.
Check out Traxxion Dynamics suspension out of Marietta Georgia. Your tite will stop cupping and their fork brace is very good too.
@@Sailordudeayeaye Will do 👍
Living in Florida, I enjoyed watching you drive through Australia.
Cheers.
Honda is renowned for making great engines for bikes, cars, generators, boat engines, you name it if it’s a Honda it’s had some great engineering!
Agreed 👍
Hello from Athens, Greece. I 've got a black 06 goldie, with 80k happy km and zero problems so far. Great review, for a great bike! The pertect bike for two up, with great handling and capable for spirited driving, even on dirt, due to its low center of gravity and wise geometry.
Yes I agree and what a lovely country you have to ride 🇬🇷, glad you enjoyed the video. 🦘
hello to athens- what a lovely comment
Great review, spot on on all counts. I own an 02 in the same colour. 40k mls now and just run in, so smooth to ride, ride safe, hi from 🇬🇧
Thank you Gary glad you enjoyed the review, would love to ride the UK one day. Cheers Mate.
I have owned over the years a 83,84,97,04 teike, another 04 trike,2012 which the last 2 I currently own.In my humble opinion the Goldwing is the BEST touring motorcycle that u can own.
Hi Bill, after owning & riding the one you see in this review for a while now I think I have to agree 👍
Cheers.
AIRHAWK SEAT CUSHIONS , WELL WORTH ONES INVESTMENT FOR. COMFORT ON THOSE L O N G DISTANT RIDES .
I have a 2012 GOLDWING with 43576 miles on the clock it is loaded with all the goodies Black and silver beautiful
Sounds very nice, enjoy & ride safe 👍
Wow. This was an excellent review. You went through it like a professional. I especially like how you went through the dirt roads.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it 👍
Thank you well explained all the in-depth about the bike thank you.
Thanks Dave.👍
70K is nothing for these sweet 6cyl motors, I’ve had plenty of correspondence from riders in the US with
100k miles (160k) on them and still running great. Look after her, good oil & maintenance and you & your wife will have many years of
Rolls Royce touring ahead 👍
@@standupmoto Thanks, from Perth.
Fantastic! You’ve certainly had your share of Goldwings, and used them for what they’re designed for. Thanks for sharing your experiences, cheers.

Gday Andrew
Thanks mate glad you enjoyed the review.
Thanks 👍
Excellent video. Love how you've presented it. ❤
Thanks so much!👍
I had a candy apple red 1000 mL Goldwing, as you say stripped when I was in my 20s and enjoyed it immensely, it was smooth and responsive and fun to drive! I know on a 2003 Kawasaki Vulcan nomad 1500 cc.
Probably dead reliable. Kawasaki never shoulda stopped selling the vulcan 1600s
I work at a Goldwing specialist shop in the US and have fallen in love with them.Currently restoring a 1976 gl1000 LTD,only 2000 produced.Unfurtunatly the new dual clutch atomic is very complex but still rolls on with what your video is about.
Gday Kevin, dream job! Working at a Goldwing shop, good luck with your resto, the early Wings are becoming a bit rare here in Aus. Cheers.
Great vid.
I’ve got an 05.
I call it a sport bike with luggage.
Thanks glad you enjoyed it, yes great analogy. 👍
Haha! I liken my older Harley to a classic 70’s muscle car and my GL1800 as a jaguar on two-wheels. I love them both
Another Jupiter Orange 2003 here, I traded a one year old 2014 Harley Davidson Road King for this Goldwing and was happy to do so ! You just can't beat this bike for comfort and reliability.
Great stuff, glad your enjoying your Wing. Yes it’s a bit hard to find a more comfortable machine than one of these, ride safe. Cheers.
Have an 2003 Blue in color and boy are there’s bikes a head turner. I get compliments every
Time I ride.
I don’t know if we had the blue here in Aus in 03, I’ll check it out 👍
That was a great three sixty review.
Best review I've watched, owned and loved my 04 for 14 years now, absolutely love it, she's a keeper. 😄
Thanks Paul glad you enjoyed it, yes I’m with you she’s definitely a keeper. Cheers.
How often do you do the shaft maintinance
Thanks for sharing! You’ll also love those long interstate hauls. Cheers.
I'm really thinking about buying a Goldwing... That was a Fantastic review... Thank You Very Much...
Thank you 👍
Excellent review!
Cheers.
Definitely the best review of the GL1800 and I believe I've seen them all.
Gees thanks Bill, certainly enjoyed putting that one together and still riding the Wing almost daily. Love it.
great video, my friend, as you said , it all started in `75 with the first naked Goldwing, build as a sportsbike, a very heavy one at that, lol, i was 18 then and loved it but had no money for something big and expensive like that, so,,,,,, many years later i bought a 1200 interstate but 5 months later i went for the 1200 Aspencade, drove that for about 5 years then went for the basic 1500, after 8 years got me a 1500 Aspencade again, drove that one for about 14/15 years, then i did the big jump in 2006, to an `03 Gl 1800, Candy Durango Red, BEST bike ever, lol, ANYWAY, just about everything you say about the Wing is completely true, its a awesome machine thats build for the long distance but surprises everybody when you get into town with its handling, its also WAYYYY faster then all those sportbikes think, lol, i went for a drive in the France Alpes, there its not the TOPSPEED that counts, i was with a couple of sportsbikes and naked bikes, gueas what, showed many of them my taillights, in THIRD GEAR its just as fast in those winding roads as there bike but also has MORE TORQUE, so when they had to shift,,,,, i just stayed in third, giving me the upperhand, lol, didn't hurth that by then i had about 45 years experiance and about 30 years Goldwing behind me, lol. i'm 65 at the moment, about the Wing,,,, never hed any real problems with them, except de DYNAMO of my second 1200, but that was a known problem with those models, always did most of the maintenance myself and indeed , the airbox is a bit hidden inside, never mind, just takes a bit longer, thats all, i'm happy to say i never had a flat tyre in all tose years, except for when i had my CBX 1000, i found some real damage on my rear tyre (no leak) that i had for,,,,,,, 1 week, (SHIT), so i had to replace that one twice in 2 weeks, o well, shit happens, i have to say that i do love the older taillights of the Wing way more then the new ones they use now, there NOT ugly mind you, but i just like the older ones on the four corners more! i wish you and your girl many fun and beautiful kilometers, keep the shinysite up, greetings from the Netherlands, Roberto.
Great stuff Rob, I love hearing Goldwing stories. Yours started long ago and you still rate this wonderful machine & still ride one. I almost feel cheated that I didn’t find the Wing many years ago, ah well guess I’d better ride it as much as I can while I can. Thanks again for sharing your experiences, cheers mate.
off road on a GW, you're a bloody legend mate
👍
My 2007 Goldwing is painted crucible orange. Very similar to your color. I love the bike. My wife loves the ride. I pull a tr
Tr
Trailer as well. We have taken all of our vacations with the trailer. It pulls the trailer so well you almost forget its back there. We have 95,000 miles on the bike and have changed tires and oil and that it. Almost maintenance free.
Very cool!
Everything was so well explained can’t wait to get one . This one well fitted out.
Thanks, glad you liked the review 👍
Awesome video I own a 2006 with 49,000 miles love it.ARKANSAS Badlands
Cheers mate thanks 👍
Thanks John glad you enjoyed it, sounds like you’re a Wing man through & through. You’ll love the GL1800👍
Looking at a 2010, and this review helped me to decide! Well done, thank you!
My pleasure, The 2010 is a very good model.
great review - it’s changed my mind about which touring bike to purchase. It will be a Goldwing. thank you for such a thorough review. well done
Thanks glad you enjoyed it, find a good one and you will have a great tourer.
Cheers Alex I’ll give that try.
I have one with 2 frontwheels. I love it. Never wanted one until I drove one 22 years ago, since then only Goldwing for me
Gday, yes the dual fronts look great. Sadly they are few and far between here in Aus, but I’d love to have a ride on one. Cheers.
Two Front wheels?
@@colinm1325 It is called a reverse trike and made bij EZS In the Netherlands
You are such a good rider !
That bike is soooo gorgeous and perfect. The Japanese do everything best. That motor is do elegant how it's perfectly centered and low. I rode a Gold Wing one time and ironically it was the EASIEST bike to ride. It was perfection.
Thank you very much! Yes they are a fine motorcycle, I have another Goldwing video out soon 👍
The best review of the goldwing I watched so far
Thanks mate, much appreciated 👍
Excellent review , chapeau, I am a Pan-European ST 1100 rider which is a fine bike but doesn’t has the comfort level when you compare it with a Goldwing. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Hallo, thank you I am glad you enjoyed the video. I also had the Pan European, it was a great bike. i think if you like the ST1100 you will love the Goldwing. zegenwensen.
great review and thanks to you i will look into buying HONDA GOLDWING . such a great review i had to subscribe no other choice. thanks mate.
Welcome aboard Rob, glad you enjoyed the review. Feel free to share the video, good luck with your hunt for a Wing you’ll love it. Cheers.
Superb real world review
The channel without doubt one of the best for honest, detailed..and entertaining reviews
Keep the videos coming
Ride safe.
Thanks, will do!
I loved this motorcycle in 2004 I have seen one then I though one day I will buy one and that day is here on week ago I bought Honda Golding F6B in red and now is in my garage I recommend this motorcycle is amazing greetings from 🇧🇪🙏
Congratulations, you will love it. Great to hear from Belgium, I am coming over to Brussels to visit the air museum next year I hope. Cheers.
@@standupmoto welcome to Belgium 🇧🇪 🙏
Had mine for three months now and I love it! Its my second GW, first one was a 88 GL1500. Great video!
Thanks Bruce & great to hear you stayed with a wing 👍
Very good review! As very soon the new owner of a 2001 model this is very useful information, thank you very much and enjoy the Wing in gorgeous Oz!
Cheers.
Crazy how the old ones are still going strong.
I have a 2006 Honda Goldwing. And I love it bought it in Feb I'm in iowa
Great stuff Alan, sounds like it would be the same as the one in this video. Cheers & ride safe.
Very nicely done! I'm goning to look at an '05 later this morning and I am SO glad I ran accross your channel!
Cheers.
@@standupmoto I never owned one, I RODE one of the early ones that had a stock fairing, a "GoldWing" as we think of them.
A close friend had a 2003 in that color. He named it "The Great Pumpkin" - and painted a little pumpkin under the windscreen.
25:25 wow, I never seen before wife-review for back seats =D
Fantastic review mate comprehensive and well thought out. A down to earth no nonsense and detailed watch! Thankyou.
Much appreciated!
I have my old girl for 17 years and 70,000 miles. I don't see me ever taking to anything else now. There is only one bike and that is Golswing
Gday Ron, yes they are a great motorcycle.
cheers for a fantastic review mate... the added view from the missus really added to the knowledge base overall... very few reviewers give that perspective by the person whos backside sits back there most :) having watched many reviews of Goldwings from the 80s through to the latest models all credos to you mate great job and has finally filled in the missing parts (ie handling in city traffic and god help me when I buy mine the bush!!! mind you I live in the bush over here in the west so again your info was incredibly helpful and amazingly clearly understandable great job mate
I just wish it could hit a trail
Very good video. I'm getting a 2008 so your teaching me how to appetite the bike. Thank You.
Cheers mate, you’ll love it. Takes a little time to get used to the size but after that you will want to ride it every day 👍
Had a 08, when my wife was on the back, we found a set of highway pegs for the rear.
Hahahaha, Tired of looking at the back of your head, and listening to your music. Brilliant, good on her, you are lucky to have her.
Shoot i thought you were going to say shs got tired of looking at the back of your head and wanted divorce. What a relief
just bought my 2nd goldwing..its a 2010. Had a 1500 as a first one that had 100k miles on it when i bought it. put another 200k on it before moving on to a BMW K1200lt. Needless to say i am back to the goldwing and loving it!
Great stuff, you tried the rest now you’re back to the best. The Goldwing really is the ultimate tourer, ride safe. Cheers.
So it had 300k abd was still going.
You've done a wonderful job with the overview of your Honda goldwing. Stay safe
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it.
