I bought a 2015 Honda CTX700 new in 2018 for $4500. Dearship just wanted to get rid of it, so i bought it for my wife. My wife has never ride the bike and I normally ride sport bikes. After 6 months of the bike being my garage I decided to start riding it to work. I fell in love with this bike. I sold my sport bike and I only ride this bike to work. It now has 37k miles on it with no problems. I ride 50 miles 1 way to work. I'm not a young man anymore, I'm 50 years and the sport bike was starting to be rough in my back. Thank you for the review.
Excellent Video.... I toured with the same model bike 2015 Metalic Silver CTX700N early Fall 2023. A 3000+ mile tour in the USA lasting 15 days. The tour began Day One heading South in the rain on the Interstate cruising 70 - 80 mph for 140 miles. Then the weather cleared as I entered onto a 2-lane Hwy 55-60 MPH through most of Ohio, then camped. Day 2 onto Ohio (555) then West Virginia Hwy 50 and camped in the Dolly Sods Wilderness area. Day 3 WV Hwy {48}, to Virginia Shenandoah National Park (Skyline) and midway camped. The next day I connected to the Blue Ridge Parkway (Virginia/North Carolina) camping a few times in the Appalachian Mountain Range before reaching the Smoky Mountains in Cherokee North Carolina. While in the Smoky Mountains, I made base camp in Robbinsville North Carolina at a Motorcycle campground. During the next few days, I left all the gear at camp and rode the bike on the paved mountain twisty roads one being the "Tail of the Dragon". The bike was a blast to ride. I averaged about 60 MPG even on the Interstate, except going through the mountains where I averaged 50-55 MPG. The bike was smooth riding well beyond my expectations. The bike held up well in the wind (installed a windshield) and rain as I passed 18-wheeler Semi Trucks on the Interstate going 75+ MPH, so it seemed. Who says the CTX700N is not a tourer bike? lol.
Hands down, this is one of the most informative motorcycle reviews I’ve watched. You did an outstanding job covering unique aspects that most reviewers don’t even mention. Thanks for making and sharing it.
Best review of the bike I've even seen on this model. I'm in my 60's the Harley wide glide is getting to be a bit much for me. I've owned bikes from the 50's to modern (200+). To quote another video on this bike, it's a swiss army knife of bikes. Probably one of my favorites. It doesn't do anything exceptional, but it is just a pleasant and happy ride for every day. I saw a saddle bag frame from England. No bags, but I have used military mortar round cans in place of bags. 65-75 mpg is the best part. Wish you well friend. Panniers, i heard black leather panties. Lmfao
If you ever want to come to the US, you are welcome to stay a night and take mine anywhere in the US for a road trip. Keep in mind it's 24 hours straight south and 32 hours straight west from where I'm at. I've got a torn rotator cuff and probably won't be able to ride this year. If you do visit I would hope you could put me and my lady up to visit your next of the planet. Why aren't you doing documentaries. Well spoke, Knowledgeable. South like Patrick Stewart with an oz accent. Lol
Thanks Scott glad you enjoyed it, yes they are a mighty little motorcycle. Appreciate the offer, you never know I might get back one day. Have always had a bucket list item of doing the Route 66. Visited the US for 6 wks in 78, in fact had my 18 bday on the flight over, loved every minute of it. Probably a bit old & decrepit for doing documentaries, they want young good looking Jimmy Stewart types but thanks for the vote of confidence. Good luck with the rotator, if it takes too long to heal maybe think about a CanAm Spyder, I’ve got one and they are great 👍.
Had it for 2 months. lots of fun, you can ride it hard like a sportbike when you want to due to the low center of gravity. There are some shortcomings but they can be addressed. 1. the suspension both front and back is not great, but the rear specifically is an issue because of the foot forward seating position. a bad bump can send a terrible about of shock directly into your spine. I upgraded to the YSS shock, had to import it from the UK through Brooks Suspension. It is a much stronger shock that won't bottom out like the OEM shock. front suspension could be better, there are options out there to improve it (emulator cartridges, etc,) but I probably won't mess with it until I need to. The other big issue is that the seat is not comfortable. Looks comfortable doesn't it? It isn't for more than 45 minutes to an hour of riding, it will put your butt to sleep because its soft foam. Again this can be addressed with a Corbin seat or custom from Seth Laam or Russel Day Long. I haven't done it yet, but I will. MPG's are absurdly good, 60mpg +. The tank is small but not an issue because of the excellent efficiency. I've ridden with my wife on the back, it can be done, but not a great 2 up bike, not super comfortable for your passenger, she feels beat up after 45 minutes of riding and that is on the upgraded rear shock. Overall I am happy with the bike, It got me back into riding after I nearly died on a CBR600 (hit by a car) I miss the top end of the cbr600 especially on the interstate, the CTX700 gets blown around a bit on the interstate, but on backroads I love the low end power delivery of the ctx700 and the handling is near sportbike levels. There are deals out there to be had on these bikes which is what makes them such a strong value. Also very reliable Honda motor.
Hi, thanks for the feedback. I’m not sure if this has the standard seat on the bike I reviewed here but it was fine for me, yes I think the rear shock could be better. I definitely found the buck on certain types of road surfaces but overall I think the CTX is a very nice middle weight cruiser with as you said fantastic fuel economy, cheers.
The OEM suspension cripples the bike, I too went with a YSS rear & cartridge emulators and springs on the front. Once that's sorted the remaining quibbles are the fuel tank size, lack of temp gauge. For a bike to do everything from multi day rides to jousting with in town traffic, its the best I have ever had.
my dealer has one of these for about $5k with 10,000km on the clock... all black so not really popping in that sense but I genuinely like the engine and 51hp is plenty!
Hi, yes 51 hp moves this bike well into the lose your license category if you let it. The only real complaint I may have is if the rider is short in the legs the pegs are a bit of a stretch, easily overcome with a set of aftermarket running boards which attach to the original peg mounts. I think $5 k is very reasonable if it’s a well kept bike.
I test road one yesterday. Great ride. Gonna have to drop the hanlebars down and lift the break and clutch levers if I can get it. Put floor boards on it cuz I prefer them over the pegs these days. Less than 14,000 miles. I love how manueverable it is. I have been riding my buddies Suzuki C50 for thee last year and a half. Great video!!
The best review of the CTX I have seen. I recently found a 2015 with only 3960 miles on it with DCT, Honda hard bags, and tall windshield. My son calls it the Baby Wing.
G’day Brad, thanks glad you enjoyed it. Sounds like you’ve found a good one there & only 3960 miles! I’d grab that for sure. Cheers. ps (please like & share the video)
looks like almost everything I liked from the nc750s but at nearly half the price. I found a 2015 touring version with less than 2k miles for $4400. WOW! What a steal! Think I found my christmas present to myself lol Thank you for the great reviews!
Thanks & glad you enjoyed the review. I really enjoyed riding this motorcycle, it’s one of those bikes that the more you ride it the more you want to. Sounds like you may be onto a great deal there, Merry Christmas 👍
Great review on a great bike. I purchased my 2015 CTX700 in June of 2023 with only 2600 miles on it site unseen, I read all the reviews and pulled the trigger. No regrets. It brings a smile to my face every time I ride it. Yeah they're better bikes out there , but for the money I paid for it I have no complaints. And when I ride it it's like an extension of my body , I don't have to think of doing anything , it all just happens. So much different than riding my 2002 Sportster 883.
Nice. I grew up beating up motocross bikes, racing, and then riding various road bikes but when my kids were young I went out and got a Scarabeo 150cc piaggio scooter. Loved it. Rapped it out all over town. Then went back to heavy cruiser and now -- I think this CTX700 will keep me in the saddle for years as I get older.
@@goteburgigram yes I agree the little Honda is a bike you can ride without having to worry about doing a knee or ankle, it still has the cruiser riding style and uniqueness but without the weight and stress. Cheers.
Fantastic. sounds like you have the perfect motorcycle. I’m yet to ride the DCT version but every one I have had correspondence with loves them also. Ride safe, thanks for the comment 👍
New to your channel today, and yes I subscribed. Landed here when I Googled Honda CTX 700 and your video popped up. I saw a CTX 700 for sale locally on Craigslist today and again, not knowing much about this bike, I Googled and viola, here we are. I read reviews of this bike several years ago when it came out (none NEAR as good as this one) and most were fairly luke-warm so I kinda pushed it out of my head. Now I have to rethink many of my misconceptions about what a modern standard is, because even if they call this a cruiser, it looks as practical as a standard from the 80s and 90s. Most cruisers are not. I liked your practical explanation of everything from engine design to braking distance. I've been riding street bikes since the early 80s, but haven't owned a bike for about 10 years. Decided recently for several reasons that it's time for another one. I thought I was looking for a standard, think z900 (like my GPz I bought new in 1981) and I'm comfortable with the slightly forward riding style of those bikes. Now I'm going to have to peruse your entire video collection to see what else I've been missing. This is one of the best bike reviews I've seen since starting my journey back to where it all began about a year ago. Really. Great. Review. Make more, please. Thank you.
Thanks Mike & welcome to the channel, yes some reviews of the CTX didn’t exactly paint a desirable picture for sure. Many tend to compare this bike to motorcycles twice the price & size, that’s not what the 700 is about. It’s a lightweight economical cruiser that is very easy to live with & own, I would suggest talking to any CTX700 owner and get their opinion (all that I have come across love them). I think test ride one and some other motorcycles of this capacity, I would say you will be pleasantly surprised at just how nice it is to ride. 👍
I went from a harley davidson to a honda ctx700. Some may call me insane for going from harley to honda but it is a night and day difference. Lighter and I do not feel any fatigue when I am riding for a full day on the road with the CTX 700
Yes it’s hard to explain just how much easier it is to own the CTX over the heavier machines, enjoy your Honda & enjoy the the money you are no doubt saving on fuel👍
I've got a 780 pound cruiser and just need a lighter machine otherwise I will not spend much time in the saddle. Thanks for this review I came here because I've narrowed my choices and this one checks a lot of boxes.
Great video! Looking at picking one of these up in the next couple days…big sale for me is the forward controls…I’m tall and have a bad hip; so is essential for me! Thanks for showing the whole bike; love how easy the seat is to come off - ingenious with the key access!
Thanks and yes would be perfect for your application, also you can get aftermarket simple to install running boards for the CTX if the pegs aren’t comfortable.
@@standupmotoI was considering it before but now I’m going to get one for sure this year. Been riding for decades and my current ride is just too top heavy
Gracias, Mistah! Very good, informative review! it is gonna be my 1st bike, after riding Honda's scooters. Don't want to waste time&risk learning foot gears, so me looking now for a fresh mileage CTX on a DCT! Happy rides to you! Greets from the Canaries!
Mi placer, yes the DCT version of this bike would be perfect if you are coming from a scooter. Thanks for your comment, my first ever from the islands.👍
Nice review! Very thorough! I've had a CTX for about 3 years - great bike. Mine is the fairing model with DCT - just the package I was looking for when I got this one. Great fun to ride through the twisties, handles highway work fine, as well. I've been riding for 56 years, owned a bunch of bikes (mostly bigger road bikes: HDs, Goldwings, BMWs) - I added a Blade (Givi) topcase and a mid-height windshield; floorboards and a Corbin seat. This bike will handle all the road riding I want to do (not inclined to take it off-road like in the video). I think Honda missed the mark on how to market this bike while it was in production - I consider mine to be a "sport cruiser". The DCT is a real treat! Those who think of DCT as an "automatic" bike are missing the point of it - in Sport Mode, it shifts pretty much the way I would, with still having the option to down (or up) shift manually with the paddle shifters - faster and smoother than most humans can do it. A very enthusiastic thumbs-up for the CTX!
Cheers Jim glad you enjoyed the review, thanks for the feedback and information with your experience riding & owning a CTX. Valuable information for potential buyers of this very underrated middleweight cruiser.
Good review. Answered most my questions. Local dealer has 2018 Honda CTX700D w/ 2500 miles for 5k that I'm looking at. Price seems little high but Looks like a great all rounder. Shame your not my neighbor.
Hi Brian , yes they are a great all round bike. Not too heavy & great economy, $5k is up there but 2500mls is nothing if it’s been looked after. Sometimes it’s worth paying a little more for a really good bike that is in great condition and you don’t have to do anything than it is to buy one for less that needs work, time & $$$ spent on it. Which ever way you go I think you will enjoy owning one these, good luck with your purchase 👍
Easily the most comprehensive review I have ever seen while remaining engaging the whole way through. It is also one of the main reasons I bought one. :) Loving it! Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it! You will also enjoy the ride, fuel economy and just general ease of ownership. Would love to hear back after a couple of months as too what you think.👍
Seems like a great bike, I don't know if I could hack feet forward position. I'm 71 sold my insane Blackbird 2 years ago... Just now went to the opposite and bought a well used BMW f650gs. My first bmw, now ima BMW snob ! Lol ! I like more "mature" reviewers-subbed !
Hello John, glad you enjoyed the video. The f650 is a very good bike, well sorted & carries its weight low. Yes the feel forward position is different at first but you soon get used to it, all the best.
This is the best review I've seen in a while! Thank you! Can you please be kind and let me know which is your height? is for comparison to my height, which is 192cm. Thank you in advance and best regards!
again an excellent review👍👍 In Europe they are only with DCT. Nice bike, but I don't know if the riding position is comfortable for long distance (?) Cheers 🍺🍺
Thanks Alex, only DCT in Europe! I wasn’t aware of that, I like the DCT as I mentioned in this review but haven’t ridden this actual model with one. I didn’t get the chance to ride it for longer than 4 hours broken into 2 x 2 hour spells, it was fine for me but maybe an interstate would prove otherwise. But I don’t really think Honda were targeting touring type riders with this one. Cheers mate , great to hear from you.
They were only available with manual tranny in Canada, but in the US DCT was an option. I ended up buying a used one in NY state for my wife and bringing it over the border.
She downsized from a Suzuki Boulevard C50 and damaged her left toe from dropping in the rain, so shifting was painful. I offered to get her the CTX-DCT and she loves it. The seat was well-shaped as you said, but collapses over am hour so it's been updated to a Corbin. Equipped with the Honda hard bags, heated grips, and fairing. Aftermarket centrestand and floorboards. Excellent little tourer. I think the only thing it needs is $uspension upgrades to make it perfect.
@@marcst-pierre9443 Thanks very much for the information, all great advice for potential buyers. Sounds like she has it set up well with good upgrades, ride safe 👍.
Hi Bill glad you enjoyed the video, sorry no on the muffler it was already on it but I’ll try to do some research and get back to you. Please share the video 👍 ps (are you in Aus)
Hi Alex, I think you’re asking is it worth buying one with 16k on the clock, I would think with the low reviving nature of this motor it would be hardy worn at all working on the assumption that it has been looked after. ie: regular oil changes etc.

@@kabdu68 Yes it’s just a perfect weight , not too heavy but not so light that you get blown around. 👍
Great review, thanks.
I really like that bike, unfortunately we ain’t got them here in Blighty. I have just subscribed. Cheers.
Thanks for the sub! You are in the UK right? I thought they were available there.
I've got one in the UK......its awesome
Hi ....are you looking for one in the UK.....selling mine
I have the same bike with the same accessories. I'm going across Canada with it this summer. The most user friendly bike I've ever owned.
Great bike to pair up with my Honda CMX1100 DCTW Rebel if I can find one used here in the States. Excellent review, thanks! 👍🇺🇸
Great idea, you can also get this one with the DCT
Seems like a great bike, I don't know if I could hack feet forward position. I'm 71 sold my insane Blackbird 2 years ago... Just now went to the opposite and bought a well used BMW f650gs. My first bmw, now ima BMW snob ! Lol ! I like more "mature" reviewers-subbed !
Hello John, glad you enjoyed the video. The f650 is a very good bike, well sorted & carries its weight low. Yes the feel forward position is different at first but you soon get used to it, all the best.
I have a CTX and I love it
Great review, hoping my test ride next week proves it comfy enough for my 6ft body... fingers crossed
I think you will be fine, I’m 5’10 and find it very comfortable 👍
Mine is in winter storage. I miss riding it as I bought it in late August. May need to see about the rear shock.
Yes I found the rear shock a bit firm but not unacceptable. Enjoy your CTX when spring arrives, they really are a good machine.
This is the best review I've seen in a while! Thank you! Can you please be kind and let me know which is your height? is for comparison to my height, which is 192cm. Thank you in advance and best regards!
Hello, I’m 178cm. You would not have any problems at 192cm. Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video.
again an excellent review👍👍 In Europe they are only with DCT.
@@marcst-pierre9443 You bought the DCT? what does she think of it? Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to ride DCT version.
I shouldn't have watch this video , now i have to buy this bike mate
Well sometimes in life we just have to do what we have to do! 🤣
Great Video:) Any Ideal where to get that ? Muffler/pipe delete? Thanks
Hi Bill glad you enjoyed the video, sorry no on the muffler it was already on it but I’ll try to do some research and get back to you. Please share the video 👍 ps (are you in Aus)
@@standupmoto Any luck on finding out what exhaust that is?
@@mariomessinamotorcycles Unfortunately no but I did put a search into eBay and there are a variety of different types available.
Great video
Great breakdown on the CT’X 700 DCT
What’s the brand for the exhaust can?
Thanks glad you enjoyed it, the can I believe is available on eBay. Sorry I don’t have the manufacturer.
My all 4 side lights turns on all the time when key is on.
Thanks man…
Cheers mate 👍
Good luck finding one though.
Yes they are few & far between on the used market for sure 👍
Merry Xmas Steve! Happy new year 🎆🎆🎇🎇🧨🧨✨✨✨✨
Thanks very much Alex & the same to you, weather is not great today but hopefully will sneak in a little ride 👍
@@standupmoto Goldwing is in the garage, with 0.5 meter of snow, he must sleep for 4 months😊
Job well done
Cheers mate thanks 👍
i love mine
Is this bike with 16,000 miles any worth it?
Hi Alex, I think you’re asking is it worth buying one with 16k on the clock, I would think with the low reviving nature of this motor it would be hardy worn at all working on the assumption that it has been looked after. ie: regular oil changes etc.

Fantastic! Enjoy & ride safe. 👍
